It's actually amazing how much world building Villeneuve was able to do with the Sardaukar in how little screen time and dialogue they had
No inspiration from the original Blade Runner, of course. All totally original ideas.
Edit - and yes, I know Dune has not got anything to do with Blade Runner Per Se. I am talking ambiance, music, dark feel.

Ambienc: Blade Runner was full of Neon Lights and overdimensional Holograms, Salusa Secundus in the Dune movie looked more like some ancient Khmer temple

Selusa Secundus: mongolian throatsinging and war drums
Dark Feel: Blade Runner has this cold dystopian no nature feel
Selusa Secundus has more of an ancient civilisation vibe with human sacrifices and soldiers getting babtized with blood

Oh yeah, it might. Especially if they were trained for jungle warfare as well as firearms, fireteam tactics, fire and maneuver.
Their insane physical conditioning, fanatical dedication to victory, combined with the weapons and tactics needed to win, would see tremendous casualties among the Vietnamese.
Maybe enough to actually win. However, after the war, the Americans would have to shuffle these blood-crazed warriors to another front, another operation, to keep them sated and obedient.
Maybe in some day we'll see a great S-F movie comparable to "Apocalypse Now" where someone will say such sentence.

The portrayal of Salusa Secundus in the movie, Seattle on a typical day, wasn't what I expected. I expected a volcanic primordial world of geysers and acid ponds. The ritualized killing of the weak didn't make sense either, that seemed more like how we manage abortion in the US as a ritualized killing of the voiceless. In a warrior society the weak would be given an opportunity to reach greatness through tests and trials, more meritocratic and less the cold mechanical scheduled appointments and sterility of abortion.
Salusa is a prison. Prison itself is a trial which few can overcome. You just need to sharpen the ingots from this foundry to get powerful, brutal and obedient force. Rain is a mental context of this.
A weak society doesn't want strong warriors.
