When I wrote the song, my daughter, Shekinah, was 9 years old and so the pathos of this protest was fired by imagining my 9 year old in the story line of this song" (Reuben Kigame, Eldoret, Kenya).

For two years now she’s pleaded with Marie “Please pay me so I could go home for Christmas”
But Marie would scream and curse right into the neighbourhood
So one more time the little girl chose to try. (She said)
