@@houseofjob UPD: Bought it, couldn't be happier. Learned it in about half an hour (and then spent an hour practicing), even though it was my first EUC. Thanks again for the review =)
I have to add my thanks to you for this fantastic review. The review managed to be concise, detailed, and humorous. Wow. Well done. Looking forward to more in the future.
Because of you I bought the ninebot z10!!!! After searching all over the Internet, I just want to say thank you for all the videos you've published:) In a matter of hours 🚚🕝 I will join the group. A 👋🏼 from 🇪🇸
Even if living on a beautiful island (Mallorca) where I will make use of the ninebot Z... it is I who die of envy to run on the streets of New York 😉😎 and be the first to be able to polish it... you are my master XD 😎👌
You provided a lot of useful information, both with your in-depth review, and the various videos you produced leading up to the review. Thank you for the effort you put into this.
Best wheel I ever ride in my life , he took me 2 minutes to understand how to ride because for turning it's little be different because of width of tire but if in your life already ride an unicycle, you can ride everything on this earth look
Awesome review and video skills! I had the Ninebot One before and it was SO HARD to learn! It took me a month to ride this comfortably on the street and I sold it on Ebay after because it is not as safe as anything that is two-wheel. Now I own the Mini and ES1.
Thanks! Part of that credit should go to +Citi Wheel for the camera work! And yes, EUC is not for everyone, much harder learning curve than the 2-wheeled counterparts, but I'm not sure it's any less safe than any other PEV, as all of us fall in the same boat, need to stay vigilant and aware through all traffic situations. And the Mini is fun! I bought a Mini Pro for my father, who picked it up right away (of course, I have a go every now and then as well!). If you get into the e-kick scooters, I highly recommend the Speedway Mini 4 Pro listed on the eWheels link I have in the comments! It will feel like a super turbo version of your ES1 for not that much more money. (I'll actually be reviewing a little bit of e-kick scooters soon, can't wait for that!)
great great great review. This is the type of review I was expecting with the INMOTION V10F, but complete silence. Ah well, bits and pieces here and there from different youtubers is fine to. Great work. Clearly the practicality of the Z10 is pretty low for a commuter like myself, but then again I feel that's the purpose of the amazing design, to help throw me over the edge and buy it. I say that because, I think most people will buy primarily due to that amazing futuristic design. Inmotion = Luxury car, Z10 = Luxury Sports car/Ferrari type or maybe lamborghini, you get the point.
Thanks! And sorry about that for the V10F, some learning pains as a beginner UA-camr on my V10F video edit, then my V10F unit started to decide to do some heavy scraping on me, so I couldn't finish. Currently trying to find my own solution of grinding down the heatsink fins while InMotion is currently working on an official solution. Not sure if you're looking at the KS18L too, but I've got that on pre-order first airship delivery batch, so me & +CitiWheel can give it the same treatment we did for the Z.
That's alright man. NO im not looking into the KS18L. Im into design alot. So the kingsong if off the list for me right now. But if not other EUC gets the job done properly then ill look into it. There was a lot of hype for the V10F, but I feel it didn't live up to that hype because the people who received theres aren't raving about it for the price. So no worries.
Yeah, there's a bit of an overlap between V10F & KS-18L, and a lot of guys here were really favoring the KS-18L with it's increased performance spec. But both excellent wheels, I still have love for the V10F, I'm just a bit frustrated I can't ride it right now due to my issue!
I have major scraping going on with the board-side heatsink hitting the motor shell casing. They're apparently working on it, but we also saw the same issue with the preprod V10F we had here in NYC. It seems to maybe be based on rider weight and riding style, as I am about 190lbs with backpack weight, and tend to carve and torque my wheel more than the average straight-line EUC rider.
I know I’m late to the party, but thanks for a great review 🙂 The Z10 is my first wheel and I have only had it a couple of months. But I feel like a lot of people are moving away from it now sadly. I’m loving mine though.
Sure thing! The Z10 was surely an ATF wheel for me as well, out of the many I've owned, but I'm afraid, I as well, have moved on (as I tend to do anyways, regardless of the wheel, as the technology keeps progressing). Note that it seems Ninebot has indeed not abandoned development, as there are legitimate murmurings of a so-called "Z10 Pro", though details and timing are scarce.
houseofjob Yeah I’ve joined the EUC forums and have also watched every Z10 video by Hsiang and Rober Ace 🙂 I always planned to be a multiple wheel owner and my eye is already on the KS16X as my next purchase to start growing my collection 😎
Great review. I couldn't agree more. I'm riding a tesla, tried a friends MSX (84v original) and anlther friends z10 and another friends KS10X. Personally i love the quick steering of the tesla, the robust feeling of the kingsong, the wsy the z10 handles bumps, but overall the msx is the best middle way as its close to the tesls in fast manouvering (z10 looses hsnds down here...emergency manouvere that i would manage in 15-20m on the Tesla would take 40m or so on the suuuuper slow z10..the biggest caveat that its downfall IMO). But the build, especially after seeing your teardown makes me HOPING A LOT they make a 100 or 127V model with 2KWh battery and more powerful motor to allow 65-70km/h like the EUCs of today. I would trust the z10 with my life, while riding my Tesla i need to constantly tear it down to check it up internally (connectors taped, cables remastered, beeper moved a s.o.) but i always ride with euc world in one ear to have early warnings of possible cut outs, something that is almost impossible on my ninebot mini plus (i managed once when reslly trying to forcea cutout in cold weather, but i wouldn't even go near that kind of limit on a sketchy gotway where internals looks like a garage dude threw it into a platic shell and sealed it shut with a glue gun 😂). Now that veteran entered the market i hope things wilm change for the better for GW. If not they will be out of market damn quick. But the main prize would be a z20 with a std 3" * 17-18" tyre with robust motor and batt pack around 1.5-2KWh that tops out around 70km/h. And WIDE pedals with good ground clearance...that is A MUST for safety..i have no clue why alm eucs hsbe such crsppy ground clearance, once again the angled pedals of the msx takes the win. But why not move them up s few cm's and add just enough angle to push the snkle towards a nice kuji pad kinds grip and accel/brake psds up top. Its all laid out how to do it, xiaomi just needs to draw and build it :)
Thanks! LOL, yeah, Z10 had lots of promise, but they needed to keep going with it. Oh well, Ninebot has been proclaimed dead before, but I doubt it, they will resurrect their EUC property some day once again. For ground clearance, you can't raise the pedals too high, or else you're going to introduce too high a total center of mass; something has to be down there to balance everything out then, as a well-designed EUC carries it's weight elements (rider, batteries) as close to the axle and as balanced around the axle as possible, or you can increase the wobble factor. And you'd be surprised that you can really maneuver most any wheel, Z10 or not, pretty expertly without a hug/pad-based technique, and it's safer and more efficient to boot. Trying to put out a video on that before the summer is out.
..i just had a chance to ride the Z10 over the weekend at my client location..after all the pent up wait..! bottom line great wheel..and sexy..but it will not surpass the Gotway X anytime for rideablity period not unless you wish to K dance with Tishawn..! it weight a ton and has less range than X..The Z imo is design for a less competence rider and would just allow the Z to ride you instead of you riding the Z ..Cheers!
Yes, if you just want to ride without advancing your technique/skill, the MSX would be the way to go (an excellent wheel BTW!). Personally for me, I'm waiting for a 22" Monster 100V redesign successor, as I'm not a fan of Gotway just recycling the last of their plastic shell molds without adding something dramatically new (ie, no lift cut button ala MCM5, better trolley ala MCM5/Tesla, etc.), since I know, per their model release behavior, there will be something better circa January 2019.
Ninebot One Z vs OneWheel XR... I am in a quandary which one to get... my OneWheel XR will be arriving tomorrow morning, and I have owned a OneWheel Plus, but the Ninebot is a completely different riding experience... I can cancel my OneWheel XR, and give the Ninebot One Z a whirl... anyway, just weighing out my options, and open to observations from others... thx...
I've been salivating at the OneWheel series for a couple of years now, and I will eventually get one, but only when the true max speeds are at least 25mph.... but even then, the spec vs money is hard to swallow coming from buying electric unicycles. If you compare cost vs speed/range, you really cannot beat an EUC, aka electric unicycle (in general), as the companies all manufacture in China, unlike say Future Motion's OneWheel, or like a Boosted Board for eboarding (which sets the standard in that field). On paper, the Z10 gets you an estimated 40 miles range (conservative riding+average male rider weight) and 28mph max for approx. $2k USD, vs the OneWheel+ XR's 18 miles range and abysmal 19mph max speed (IMHO speed is safety, safety to get out of the way of cars) for $1.8k USD. On top of this, with EUC, you get the most minimal form factor to bring your wheel with you into your destination, as well as typically having a convenient trolley to wheel around your EUC instead of carrying (unlike the OneWheel). If you peruse the EUC forums (forum.electricunicycle.org) you'll see the very occasionally rare OneWheel convert to EUC; more common are Segway Mini & eboard converts. They all say the same thing: nothing beats the practicalities and value of an EUC... plus they do carry the fun factor as well. The only caveat to all this is that EUCs have the steepest learning curve of all PEV. Not sure if my rambling helps = ) but feel free to ask more questions (FYI I've test ridden the OneWheel (great fun!), have a skiing/snowboarding & terrible kick-push skateboarding background....)
oh wow.... thx for your detailed response... The only other concern I have w/ purchasing something from China is that how does one know for sure that they are not going to deliver a cheap knockoff? I can only assume the Ninebot corporation, which is a subsidiary of Segway will honor the integrity of their product upon purchase against any possible defects and damage upon shipment. I was looking at ordering one through this site: www.aliexpress.com/item/NINEBOT-ONE-Z10-Foldable-Electric-Unicycle-Wide-Wheel-Aluminum-Alloy-Frame-1800W-Motor-45km-H-Maximum/32927670075.html?spm=a2g0s.13010208.99999999.259.30873c006OR8le ... Unlike Boosted and/or OneWheel, these companies are just down the road from where I live, and I can at least get customer support... anyway, I still like the EUC concept... seems like a more balanced ride, facing forward, and leaning side to side, unlike the OneWheel posture, which is pretty much always facing sideways which suits one's left/right coordination.
Preordered a NineBot from ($200 deposit) www.ewheels.com as they are a reseller in the US, and offer a consumer protection plan, and support... need to come to terms w/ my other expensive toys, and determine if I just want to go all in w/ the NineBot... haha Boosted let me finance my Stealth at $135 a month, interest free... Doubt eWheels has such an aggressive finance plan. OneWheel also offers an aggressive finance plan too via Affrm.
I'm on my 16th EUC purchased (I buy/sell/consume regularly) and have tried buying from every type of distributor available to us here in the US, including AliExpress. If you go the AliExpress route, I would go with Green Fashion Travel store, as they are the largest (brick+mortar chain based in S. China) and most reputable: www.aliexpress.com/store/product/2018-Newest-NINEBOT-ONE-Z10-electric-unicycle-wide-wheel-1800W-motor-maximum-speed-45km-h-battery/1908673_32888508616.html?spm=2114.12010612.8148356.4.42fb3a8b7T7RyD But as you state, support is key for EUC, as things can and will go wrong. The Chinese distributors (at least the most reputable ones) will try their best to support you, but shipping the unit back to China is not economically practical. Ninebot in Beijing has been known to be iffy on support, and most chinese EUC manufacturers will point you straight back to your distributor. I am a bit biased, but ultimately, out of all the options I've purchased wheels from, I am partial to eWheels (linked in my description). They're well-known amongst the fledgling EUC community for providing support, and Jason McNeill, who runs it, is not just a seller, but a major, vetted advocate in the community. My relationship with them started from Jason helping me troubleshoot a bad wheel I had bought from a different, Joe Schmo distributor, who went MIA on me, aiding in my going back-and-forth with the manufacturer. In general, I highly doubt you'll get a cheap knockoff wheel, but rather more likely to get a problem wheel - disguised as new, or a "new" old stock wheel, which has been sitting... not a good thing for a lithium battery device (less likely for the Z, as the wheel has been a hot new item with Ninebot unable to keep up production with the demand). As for EUC vs OneWheel, EUC most definitely is akin to skiing, or even (to a lesser degree) skating/rollerblading, as your body orientation for all are the same, facing forward. Also, the board-oriented sports (snowboard, skateboard, etc.) that the OneWheel takes after give you a big and constant blind spot (as you're back is always on one side), whereas EUC faces you forward, giving you a lesser blind spot in your immediate 180 plane.
thank you very much for sharing your candid and spot-on advice. eWheels it is, though how do they even know that they are not receiving a "a problem wheel - disguised as new, or a "new" old stock wheel, which has been sitting."? Given the fact that they are the United State's largest reseller of Ninebots, I would think Ninebot, Beijing would want to maintain a reputable relationship w/ at least one major company in the U.S... anyway, hope I am not asking for headaches... My OneWheel XR and Boosted Board Stealth are durable EVs, and are built to withstand abuse over time.
Thanks for all the effort that went into making such a fantastic, high quality review. Looking forward to EUC clinic in Utah, by the true Master of EUC...
Haha, thanks Mark! But again, you're gonna have to reserve a spot for me at that clinic too, because I know nothing about this EUC 'master' you speak of LOL
Dude. I have my z10. Loving it. Question about the light settings though, I noticed in your footage when braking the leds flash red when braking. I haven't seen that happen with mine. Do you know if there's a setting that turns that feature on?
Nice! Loving mine as well! I'm not sure about the lights on the production Z10 now, but I'll check on mine and get back to you. The red taillight should flash with the action of actual braking, so you can't check simply by trolleying it around, without actually riding I think.
Almost convinced me to buy with the hip-swinging turn style... until I heard tilt back was 28 :/. I want gotway to make a wheel this wide with msx speed.
I personally don't miss the speed on the Z. The physics of certain wheels make the same speed feel way different on one wheel than another. For example: I'll hit 31mph for burst speed regularly and comfortably on my KS-18S, but I would never want to do that speed on my 14" MCM5, while on my former 22" Monster, I was comfortable Averaging ~30mph, hitting 33-35mph regularly for burst speed. With that idea in mind, I don't think I would be too comfortable on the Z going much more above the 28mph due to the small physics combined with the gargantuan mass / momentum.
Thanks, much too kind! You’ll do your thing with the Z definitely, we need that Florida spin! I know you’ve been doing this much longer than I have haha
I want to start a EUC community down south. I just need a Gotway Monster to start. It'll probably be two years because I'm poor, and have to save up for it.
why not bu a crappy ninebot s2 or c for 300 to 400 refurbed on ebay and then demo it yo everybody to show how cool it is. yhen more ppl will buy the better wheels. then u can try their wheels and or sell ur ninebot to a kid and get back most of ur money
@@houseofjob What luck I have. I use to buy used stuff. They all turned out bad. I bought used car, and and it blew up on me. I bought electronics, and it shorted out on me. I bought used underwear, and I itched for a week......................................The last one was a joke btw. Anyways I don't have the money to buy anything that I want, but only need like food, bills, and my pain meds, and barely I can't even afford that sometimes. You could say I pass hitting rock bottom. Well the good thing is that I'm able to sort of go back to work the end of this year since I can't even get aid for my illness, but only light work like food delivery, or a door attender. I would wish to go back to repairing electronics like before, but my eyes are useless, had four surgeries, and I still can't see right. I have nerve damage from a birth defect that worsen with an accident that I had at work. You probably asking why in the hell would you want a Unicycle when you're all sorts of mess up? I just say this, if I'm able to ride those awesome wheels the joy of it will out weigh the pain. I'm so stinking tired of being trapped in the house for four years. Yes!, even before the pandemic I was stuck in the house trying to heal up. So you know my frustration where I can't afford a wheel that I want. Also I changed my mind about wanting the Monster. Don't get me wrong, I still love the the wheel. I just found something that is better, and is the same price, the Veteran Sherman. I feel that is a good deal, and quality in structure durability, better range, and it's crazy fast. I'm not going to be going that fast if I ever get it.
@@danhle1032 That's a good idea. I just wish I had the money to do that, but in actuality I'm a picky fella. I know beggars can't be choosies. I just like if I'm going into this awesome hobby, interest, or lifestyle than I got to get the best. I also changed what I wanted. I now want the Veteran Sherman. That wheel is so freaking awesome! It out shine the monster in everything from speed, range, and durability. I love that wheel, and even though I can't get it right away. I could just dream.
@@tangtang7051 i imagine ull only have hardcore ppl in ur community if u plan on demoing a veteran that almost nobody will be able to ride. youll probably scare more ppl as it looks pretty intimidating. their backs will hurt so much from trying to learn on it (im 115lbs and learned on a 55lb wheel...could only do 15min at a time before aching)....wouldnt be surprised if most have a unrealistic negative opinion of eucs leaving only the most extreme to remain...but maybe thats what ur looking for
Great review. I'd love one of these but they are no longer available in the US. Lot's of Chinese eBay listings, but I don't know how safe that is for a $2k purchase?
Thanks! I will point out at later post review, but as much as I love my Z10, I'm not sure, given all the issues that buyers have encountered, that I would really recommend buying a Z10 at this point, unless you know what you are getting into, all the known potential issues. Some months ago, the former myfunwheel.biz dealer Dion announced on the EUC forums that he was getting back into selling and carrying the Z. FWIW Dion and his former myfunwheel.biz had very good reputation amongst the community as an EUC dealer, albeit I've never bought from him myself: forum.electricunicycle.org/topic/13201-ninebot-z10-mint-less-than-15miles-on-it-1650/ If you go the China route, only distributor I would really recommend (and I've been through a few) would be Green Fashion shop of AliExpress, just make sure they have a solution for the battery drain during transit, and if you're in the US, try to pay outside of AliX via PayPal, or else you'll get hit with the recently implemented Trump tariff tax imposed by the AliExpress site (not seller): www.aliexpress.com/store/product/2019-Newest-NINEBOT-ONE-Z10-electric-unicycle-wide-wheel-1800W-motor-maximum-speed-45km-h-battery/1908673_32888508616.html Good luck!
I'm fairly certain I'm going to buy the ninebot z6. Do you think it will weigh less to hulk up into my car? Being a lower power unit with less battery. When people think Z, they often think of the max powered unit, but that's not what my goal is. I want a nice ballance of all worlds, and not necessarily speed.
Unfortunately, no, the Z6 lower configuration will basically be the same weight as the higher Z8 & Z10 versions, as all that is happening here is the same amount of battery cells are just lowering in energy density, ie they’re not reducing the amount of battery cells used. goo.gl/images/1vVjFp
I have a quick question - I have zero experience but I’m fascinated with this shift in “people moving.” You mention in your video this is NOT the scooter everyday 200lb users; what do you think is the best unicycle brand / model for someone about 225 - range being important.
The 200+ lb riders need larger batteries to sustain enough power, 1600Wh minimum. This would include wheels by King Song (KS-18XL, KS-18S) and Gotway (MSuperX, Monster).
Great review. Balanced and inciteful. Can you recommend a EU for someone in an urban setting at a 200+ Ibs weight category. I was attracted to this device because of the tire width.
Thanks! For a 200lb+ rider, I would probably go for a wheel with the biggest axles and/or battery capacity. As the Monster sports both the largest axles (24mm, same as the Z10), and largest battery pack (more parallel packs, the better, not for just range, but power), that would probably be my no. 1 recommendation for your question. The caveat to that is, not everyone likes the big form factor of the Monster. So, depending on your range demands, I would go with the Z10 if you don't need more than, say, 30 miles (just guessing here based on the estimated ~40 mile range for average rider weight); or go with the MSuperX if you need a short form factor, big battery alternative to the Monster. (not sure if the MSuperX axles have been upgraded to 24mm, or stayed the same 21mm that the prior MSuperV3 series sported).
Great Review... I saw you ridding the ks18L so which one between the Z and the ks18L you will have if you have to choose? And which one you think is better overall? And which one you think is better for NYC?
Thanks! Thank God I don't have to actually choose haha, I have both on order!~ If I HAD to choose, it would be the Z, due to where I live, pothole capital New York City (also answering your 'better for NYC' question). But better overall? That's a tough question, like asking is a sports car better than a pickup truck? The sports car will beat the pickup truck in perfect road conditions, but with snow, offroad, the pickup truck becomes better. I think that's the same here with the Z vs KS18L comparison, they're too different. I guess the 2.5" wide makes the KS18L a more balanced wheel for all conditions, but after getting used to the Z, going back to my 2.5" wide KS18S felt very weird and too thin for bumps, even though that used to be the off-roading tire width standard! Probably, the better question is which wheel is more balanced, to which I can agree that the KS18L is for sure.
+SuperSport1966 No problem, thank you for the thank you! And no, I didn't do a full range test with the Z unfortunately, but maybe one of the guys the demo unit is getting shipped to can do a proper one. (also, the Z charges incredibly slowly with the included 2A charger, so we were charging every chance we got) My 40 mile quote is a calculation based on Jason McNeil's rule of thumb of 25wH/mile, which is a pretty good predictor of range.
If Jason gives me the thumbs up I'm going to ride it in the ocean like my MSuper. That'll be a good test of the effectiveness of the mudguard and wide tire for sand riding :-)
Hey Chris, Just wanted to say I really think your videos are excellent. I have a few questions for you. I received my Z10 a few days ago. I’m a touring musician with Cirque Du Soleil and am currently in Japan. Is there a forum or social platform that I can ask you specific questions about EUC’s or specifically Ninebot One Z10? Let me know! I really enjoyed your videos along with Tishawn Fahie. I will be putting an unboxing video and basic first impressions video out soon. I have a pretty busy schedule with shows but will make it happen. Nice to meet you. -Michael
Thanks! (I am a musician by trade as well LOL) Jealous you've got your Z10 already as we in the States are still waiting for pre-order fulfillment... probably just a week away! Link your unboxing here when you post, would be interesting to see! As for resources, the EUC forums ( forum.electricunicycle.org ) is probably the most comprehensive English language forum for mainly EUC knowledge share (some other PEV as well), and I am active on there under the same user name, so feel free to ask me whatever you like. There are also several facebook groups, both brand and non-brand-related as well that I frequent: facebook.com/groups/ElectricUnicycle/ facebook.com/groups/GotWay/ facebook.com/groups/645251332270346/ I also have been working to set up my own analogous PEV website/blog as well, so I will eventually link that to my UA-cam channel here when it comes to fruition. But congrats on the Z purchase! - Chris
houseofjob Thanks so much for the quick response!! Nice to hear you’re a musician too. I will link my video here when I post it. There are some weird things with the app not remembering settings. Like the headlight. But as you said about the Beta version that was sent to you guys, I am sure there are going to be small bugs at first. Firmware version 1.0.0. Thanks Chris!! If you’re on Instagram here is my handle: @michaelcello Facebook/Michaelcello
Yeah, there are definitely some glitches in the app. Setting being revert back. Strange. Also the day time running light is supposed to be on all the time. But it doesn’t turn on when you turn the wheel on. And it seems like there may be a sensor too above the charge port that will turn the light on if it gets dark. Hard to explain. Aside from the holding of the power button. Anyways, you will see. Hopefully they roll out a FW update once they are shipped to the US.
My Z10 arrived today. I do skate, ski and surf, but I am an EUC virgin. Given that fact, would you recommend I have the auto-brake feature turned ON or OFF while learning? Thank you
One last question Chris, is it fully charged when the red light on the charger turns green or when the battery indicator on the Z10 stops flashing with all bars full? I pulled the charger when the Z10 indicator showed FULL but the charger was still red.
Even when the charger is solid green, the wheel is technically still topping up to the full 100% / 58V, but you can just assume it's full charged with the solid green indicator. Also, be careful when initially going out to ride on a full charge / 100%, because if you hard brake in this fully charged state, the regenerative braking will surge power back into a battery that has no more room, which is liable to trigger the BMS to cut off power to the motor in an effort to protect the battery, aka prevent a fire.
Can someone help? I see that both Segway and Xiaomi Mijia offer the Ninebot One Z10. What is the difference and is one real and the other an off-brand? Or, is it basically the same thing?
The Z10 is a Ninebot product, but initially it was branded "Ninebot by Segway" because Ninebot bought Segway proper, and Segway has more brand recognition than Ninebot. I've never seen the Z10 branded Xiaomi before, but Xiaomi IS the parent investor of Ninebot, so kind of makes sense. But where / on what site are you even seeing these brandings?, as they haven't sold direct like this at all for their one-wheeled products
@@houseofjob I'm looking at ordering one, but I'm having trouble getting it shipped to the US apparently...I tried from AliExpress and Gearbest, but both won't ship to the US. Do you know where I can order one from?
@@dancereaper Have you tried Green Fashion store (S. China brick & mortar chain) on AliExpress? They're the only store on AliX that I would really buy from, have bought from: bit.ly/2Ez4EPQ It's a shame Ninebot has basically shutout international distributors like the US eWheels.com, but also, Jason is helping a customer sell their barely used Z10 as well: bit.ly/2TlgtDk
Hi @houseofjob , has your high speed turning on your Z10 evolved into something different at all - comparing now and the time you had the pre-production model Z10?
Yes, drastically. I've been in UA-cam hibernation due to the cold, but now that it's warming up, I'll try to make a video on it. Spoiler: for the Z, I tip-toe my locked outside turn leg, where I can semi-hang off the wheel some. The turning is more about manipulating my body more than influencing the wheel, which is still resistant to leaning due to increased gyroscopic upright-standing force from the wide.
@@houseofjob Ah okay, thanks for that. Can't wait to see that technique. 🤙 Lastly, what's your impression of Robert Ace's high-speed turning technique on the Z? He seems to have the legs quite bent; his is the closest I've seen to mimicking the extreme knee-lean turning style of superbike racers. Whether it's more, less or equally effective as your technique, it seems to me that, regardless of foot placement and leg orientation, the fundamental similarity is, as you said, focusing on manipulating the body - that is, kinda throwing the pelvis and torso to the side as though intending to sit on the ground.. I'd love to see more technique videos or advanced tutorials from experienced riders like you. A new frontier task in the EUC discipline〜 😉
@@TheseusMinor LOL, thanks! RoberAce seems to be doing his thing, but having both knees bent doesn't really work for me (on any EUC in general), as this creates too much slow down when turning, as our body weight being primarily over our back foot / heel (ie. favors going backwards) puts us naturally at a disadvantage on generating frontward force/torque to accelerate the wheel. This is the reason why I have my outside turn leg locked, hip driving the force down while the wheel is tilted into the turn. The leaning your body / hips / pelvis part is not as pronounced as his in my action I believe, and I actually turn my torso plane more in parallel to the wheel / tire plane in order to achieve sharper turns.
@@houseofjob I have a feeling that we're still at the infanncy of EUC discipline, where what most people are doing is analogous to riding a BMX and doing a wheelie; and a decade from now they'll be such a thing as flatland BMX gradually making its way into the Olympics. We're just beating the bushy path and making way for posterity. 😶
@@TheseusMinor Yes, EUC is at it's infancy for sure. Even in the past couple of years, I've personally seen shifts and changes like the move away from 18" size prejudice, etc. Will be curious to see how it progresses in the next 5.
LOL, that's a big difference to me! To me, I would be scared of underpowering, as the Z6 battery cells are less energy dense (albeit the firmware will restrict speed, etc accordingly). I would rather save up the few hundred to get the full Z10.... not to mention that the Z10 itself isn't even utilizing the best, most energy dense & high performing 18650 battery cells currently available, like LG MJ1's or Panasonic GA's.
For me, it's been fine. The wider tire width necessitates a more exaggerated turning technique, but if you lack the proper technique to begin with (IMHO, most EUC riders out there), then the Z really exposes this lack of technique.
You can really learn on any EUC, but the ideal EUC for learning would have a high shell with ample padding for your shins. In that aspect, the Z shell is not very high, and while it does not have built-in side padding, you can always apply the included stick-on side padding or add your own. Actually, because the Z tire is much wider (4") than the typical EUC tire width (2.125"-2.5"), this makes learning on the Z in some ways easier, as the tire has to travel more distance to fall over, thus making it easier to attempt to stay upright. I would just make sure to pad the Z all over, as it would be a shame to scratch it up from the inevitable falls and drops that happen when learning.
Yes, you can stand still the longest on the Z out of any EUC I think. It's also super dense, so when waiting for a light, I can slowly do figure 8's and slow turns to idle, very reminiscent of doing the same on my MTen3.
Sure! I will slowly be uploading a whole series on advanced EUC riding technique, as I haven't seen any on UA-cam I think (and not tricks, more practical). I'll add one on idling / moving slow in crowds.
That's a very insightful (& funny) review 👏 BTW, I have some queries. 1st, do u think this is a good EUC for a 143 lbs,161 cm tall, newbie female rider, travelling on mixed road conditions, with unexpected rainfalls? 2nd, is it comfortable for a hopping private-public-private commuting? For example, riding an EUC to reach a 10km distanced train station, then ride the train, then again EUC, then again a train. I am becoming more interested with EUC because of unorganized train rails, but we don't have a lot of EUC merchants here in Philippines aside from Segway Ninebot.
Thanks! The only issue I can see is that the Z10 is on the heavier side of EUCs, so if you have to climb steps, you would need to make sure you can lift the 55 lbs. Also, while any EUC will handle rainfall, I would recommend you limit your exposure to rain in heavier rainfalls. Otherwise, yes it can do everything you mention, as I commute everyday with my Z10 here in NYC.
@@houseofjob Yeah..I guess you're right..a lot of Z10 reviews, mostly by guys, established that it is not ideal for carrying up & down the stairs, which is unfortunate for me coz oftentimes elevators in train stations here are out of order 😔 Can u recommend an alternative to z10 that is lighter but with enough battery to travel at least 50km? It doesn't have to be so fast, I just need it to last until my destination. Much thanks!
@@beverly10 Unfortunately, all the 50km range wheels are almost as heavy as the Z10. A possible solution would be to buy a lighter, lesser range wheel that can accommodate fast charging, like the InMotion V8 (13.5kg / 30km), InMotion V5D / V5F (~11kg / ~25km), or slightly heavier but more powerful and excellent Gotway MCM5 (~16.5kg / ~32km), or if your roads are relatively smooth, the smaller 10" tire Gotway MTen3 (~11kg / ~20 km; I would get an add-on retractable trolley handle for this).
@@houseofjob Thanks a lot for a handful of recommendations 🙂👍 I'm looking into Inmotion V8..seems to be something I can handle at around 13kg🤔 Maybe I'll need to level up my workout habit 😅 Well then, enjoy the ride & be safe.
Pedal dip is when you turn, if the manufacturer has not created an adjustment algorithm, the gyroscope gets confused as to what is level, since the EUC is leaning down, the pedals will lean down with it. Only Gotway seems to not have adjusted for this phenomenon.
Good Night Friends, I would like to buy the Z10 but the value is not viable for me at the moment, value $ 1850.00 still have to pay 60% more because of the Tax, if someone brings to Brazil same used up to buy, a I hug everyone and Congratulations to those who have already bought the Z10.
LOL thanks! Just note, I'm not sure of the current support situation by Segway Ninebot, so I would make sure to buy through a vetted dealer for support.
Through the grapevine, I’ve heard there have been many quality issues with the ES2, typical for cheap e-kick scooters. The Z on the other hand, is all quality, I guess you get what you pay for. But if you’ve never ridden an EUC, there is, obviously, a much bigger learning curve compared to scooters.
Hi, you should email each dealer individually, regardless if they have a Z10 Board part page on their site, because many have parts they don't list online. But since the Z10 has long bee EOL'd, I'm not sure if such parts exist, but it's worth a try I think.
@Houseofjob how's it going brotha, I just wanted to know which wheel would be perfect for me to get my hands on. I'm 210-215lbs and I'm looking to getting my hands on one of these sexy unicycles but I'm new to them and don't know whichone would be the best for me. I suffer from epilepsy (photosensitive) and I've lost my license since the age of 19 am now 26 and life is a bit rough not being able to get to places quick or on time. I really like this new wheel a lot do to the fact tire look 🙆♂️ but I could use the help of an actual rider of one that can help me out on making the right choice/purchase. To anyone of y'all reading this comment feel free to text me back and give me your advice on which unicycle I should go for. Thanks again for this amazing review and for the help, p.s. Don't Ride, Just Glide 👊😎
Thanks for the thanks! I'm not sure in what use case / purpose / setting (city, suburb, etc.) you're looking to get the unicycle for, but your rider weight does limit the choices to bigger wheels like this Ninebot One Z; King Song KS-18S (tall) or KS-18L (short); Gotway 18" MSuperV3 or MSuperX series; or Gotway 22" Monster series. Mainly, range can become an issue for the 200+lb riders. So, for wheels like the Ninebot One Z or KS-18L, which have max ~1kWh batteries, the ~40 mile range that a sub-200 lb rider can average, becomes more like 35 or 30 (weight dependent) for 200+lb riders. This is why many of those riders default to Gotway wheels, since they can be configured with batteries higher than 1kWh. Without more information, I'm not sure what more to recommend. Also, like I say in my review, the Z would not be the most easiest to learn on, but if your mind is determined enough, one can learn on any electric unicycle it seems. Hope that helps!
houseofjob 🤔hmmm, ok I'm a bit lost do to the fact that I'm a noob on these rides😆, but with the info you've given me seems that this Z10 would DEFFINETLY be the wrong choice for me right.? Also, i like the wheel size on the Z10 alot do to it being wide🙆♂️ p.s. (always thought of myself riding a Bobber with a FatRearTire) but if it ain't how I see it, which wheel should I go for than 🤷♂️..? Also, I live in California Vista, there's no potholes or hills to what'll be suffering from, mostly straight ways/streets. And I'll be using it mostly to ride to school, after I've ridden the sprinter most of the way. Hmmm really thought this wheel was it 😟
houseofjob hey Chris how's it going. I have another question to ask you brotha, if I was to pay the "secure fee for the z10, would I have to pay the whole amount to it after I receive the wheel or would I be able to pay in payments..? Doesn't really say anything about that and well I'm hesitating to pay it do to the fact that well money is short so please get back to me soon. Thanks again for the awesome videos and reviews man.
Hmmmm.... this is the tricky thing recommending wheels to new riders, as it's hard to know what your actual, legit needed requirements are without the experience under your feet. The Z very well could be the wheel you are looking for, but the wideness is a an X-factor (pros: bad terrain/offroad, build quality, aesthetic design; possible cons(though not sure): harder for learning (although you can learn on anything really), and possibly harder for maneuvering)) The alternatives are the wheels I mentioned before. I'll say that Gotway is the best performer, but can definitely require you to be handy for maintenance and issues (MSuperX seems to be the popular wheel of the moment). From what it sounds like, the Z probably does seem to fit the bill, but there are alternatives (again, the wheels I listed above), in case you need, say, a similar but lighter wheel, or a more powerful wheel, or a wheel with more range (mainly bigger battery Gotways).
Thanks again! (and sorry for the delayed response, as I misread UA-cam thinking it was showing your previous comment!) For eWheels.com, since the Z is still an upcoming pre-order model, it's been $200 deposit for a place on line, then full payment due when wheels are ready, of which the $200 deposit goes towards the total. Unfortunately, I don't see any payment plan option in general anywhere on the site, but I guess you could ask via email just to make sure.
When you make sharp right and left turns on an electric unicycle, the gyroscope, which balances the wheel, can get confused because of the resulting tilting angle of the unicycle body plane, and the pedals, which the gyroscope tries to keep level, can angle down, hence "pedal dip". Most EUC manufacturers will compensate to combat this, but for some reason, Gotway does not yet.
houseofjob reallllyyy...wow....i hope it never happens to me. I have the msuper v3. O boy...not a good thing to happen when riding. Thank you houseofjob
Sure thing! Yes, hopefully you never experience, but I've noticed a re-level/re-balance will result in more pedal dipping on sharp turns fo the Gotways.
houseofjob I really want to experience what it is the ride a gotway monster for a lot of other reasons.... But fortunately come on no one has to make excessive turns on such a big wheel... I'm guessing :-)
Turning on a Monster is interesting, there's the wideness to it combined with the weight and being much bigger everywhere... makes you either have to swing your hips/upper torso more, or, like I've been experimenting with, reposition your feet so you can change your body pivot plane. IMHO it really doesn't matter the size of the wheel (within reason), you can get even big wheels like the Z & Monster to turn just like the small wheels do, albeit with a bit more effort.
This is hands down the best z10 review on the internet as of right now. Short and on point.
LOL, thanks!
@@houseofjob UPD: Bought it, couldn't be happier. Learned it in about half an hour (and then spent an hour practicing), even though it was my first EUC.
Thanks again for the review =)
@@iriverey Nice, congrats!
I have to add my thanks to you for this fantastic review. The review managed to be concise, detailed, and humorous. Wow. Well done. Looking forward to more in the future.
Thanks for your thanks!
Novice UA-camr, but long-time EUC-er here, so hoping to make these vids even better and better! Glad to hear you enjoyed!
Because of you I bought the ninebot z10!!!! After searching all over the Internet, I just want to say thank you for all the videos you've published:)
In a matter of hours 🚚🕝 I will join the group.
A 👋🏼 from 🇪🇸
Oh nice and thank you for the kind words!
Jealous!, as we are still waiting in the US for our proper release.
Even if living on a beautiful island (Mallorca) where I will make use of the ninebot Z... it is I who die of envy to run on the streets of New York 😉😎 and be the first to be able to polish it... you are my master XD 😎👌
Thanks, much too kind! (you should film riding the Z in Mallorca!)
Hey, do you mind linking where you got yours from? Thanks!
The unit I used for the review is not mine, it was a courtesy demo unit from eWheels.com ( bit.ly/eWheelsHOJ )
I have one on pre-order with them.
You provided a lot of useful information, both with your in-depth review, and the various videos you produced leading up to the review. Thank you for the effort you put into this.
No problem, thank you for your kind words reverse round-mound-of-rebound!
Best wheel I ever ride in my life , he took me 2 minutes to understand how to ride because for turning it's little be different because of width of tire but if in your life already ride an unicycle, you can ride everything on this earth look
Nice! I know I love my Z10 LOL
Wow! Detailed and concise review. Excellent job, Chris!
Thanks Adam!
Your riding stance is so mesmerizing.
umm.... thanks? thanks!
Best review of Ninebot Z10
Aw shucks, thanks!
I love your videos brother keep up the good job
Thanks fam!
great great great review.
What's your issue?
I have major scraping going on with the board-side heatsink hitting the motor shell casing. They're apparently working on it, but we also saw the same issue with the preprod V10F we had here in NYC.
It seems to maybe be based on rider weight and riding style, as I am about 190lbs with backpack weight, and tend to carve and torque my wheel more than the average straight-line EUC rider.
Excellent review buddy, thanks for all this effort. We are all addicted.. Your riding style is elegant
Haha, thanks Mark! Let's ride together soon!
Great review dude, truly appreciated!
Greetings all the way from Sweden :)
Thanks for the kind words!
@@mancbiker17 LOL, I see! Welcome to the fold then!
Amazing man! Can't wait for you Msuper X review!
Amazing camera work!, wonder who did it? LOL
China) and most reputable:
www.aliexpress.com/store/product/2018-Newest-NINEBOT-ONE-Z10-electric-unicycle-wide-wheel-1800W-motor-maximum-speed-45km-h-battery/1908673_32888508616.html?spm=2114.12010612.8148356.4.42fb3a8b7T7RyD
But as you state, support is key for EUC, as things can and will go wrong.
I loved the presentation of this review. 👍
Thanks!
Thanks for all the effort that went into making such a fantastic, high quality review. Looking forward to EUC clinic in Utah, by the true Master of EUC...

houseofjob p.s. love the oddjob clip. Trust that wasn’t for my benefit!! :D
LOL. Yes, you did have an influence on that ; )
Thanks for the reviews
You're welcome! Glad you enjoy!
Thank you!!! Very informative and FUNNY!!!
Thanks!
With that idea in mind, I don't think I would be too comfortable on the Z going much more above the 28mph due to the small physics combined with the gargantuan mass / momentum.
houseofjob thanks for the insight! Sounds like it’s just a strange beast that needs to be truly needs to be test driven to understand the feel.
Joshua Freeman Yes, something like that!
Great job Chris, I hope I can do half as well as you guys did with it.
Damn, that sucks. Perhaps you can find a good condition Monster on used marketplaces like FB (facebook.com/groups/eucco/), but either way good luck!

FWIW Dion and his former myfunwheel.biz had very good reputation amongst the community as an EUC dealer, albeit I've never bought from him myself: forum.electricunicycle.org/topic/13201-ninebot-z10-mint-less-than-15miles-on-it-1650/
If you go the China route, only distributor I would really recommend (and I've been through a few) would be Green Fashion shop of AliExpress, just make sure they have a solution for the battery drain during transit, and if you're in the US, try to pay outside of AliX via PayPal, or else you'll get hit with the recently implemented Trump tariff tax imposed by the AliExpress site (not seller): www.aliexpress.com/store/product/2019-Newest-NINEBOT-ONE-Z10-electric-unicycle-wide-wheel-1800W-motor-maximum-speed-45km-h-battery/1908673_32888508616.html
Good luck!
Unfortunately, no, the Z6 lower configuration will basically be the same weight as the higher Z8 & Z10 versions, as all that is happening here is the same amount of battery cells are just lowering in energy density, ie they’re not reducing the amount of battery cells used. goo.gl/images/1vVjFp
very good informative review !!
Thanks!
Thank you! @@houseofjob
Thanks mate
Great review, well done.

LOL, thanks! Спасибо
Just watched. Awesome review, Chris. As to the "who is this for?" Well, 100% fore me. Once I get my nerve back to ride. :P
Thanks Ted!
Take your time man, no rush. You'll be back into NB fanboy shape in no time, I don't doubt it!
Great Review... I saw you ridding the ks18L so which one between the Z and the ks18L you will have if you have to choose? And which one you think is better overall? And which one you think is better for NYC?
Thanks!
Thank God I don't have to actually choose haha, I have both on order!~
If I HAD to choose, it would be the Z, due to where I live, pothole capital New York City (also answering your 'better for NYC' question).
Probably, the better question is which wheel is more balanced, to which I can agree that the KS18L is for sure.
houseofjob thank u, big help for my purchase.
Thank you very much for this review! Did you try a range test, or is your 40 mile range comment from the specs?
+Hernando Ortega no problem!
+SuperSport1966 No problem, thank you for the thank you!
And no, I didn't do a full range test with the Z unfortunately, but maybe one of the guys the demo unit is getting shipped to can do a proper one. (also, the Z charges incredibly slowly with the included 2A charger, so we were charging every chance we got)
My 40 mile quote is a calculation based on Jason McNeil's rule of thumb of 25wH/mile, which is a pretty good predictor of range.
Thanks for the review.

There are also several facebook groups, both brand and non-brand-related as well that I frequent: facebook.com/groups/ElectricUnicycle/ facebook.com/groups/GotWay/ facebook.com/groups/645251332270346/
I also have been working to set up my own analogous PEV website/blog as well, so I will eventually link that to my UA-cam channel here when it comes to fruition.
But congrats on the Z purchase!

Yes, the advantage of an EUC that is FW upgradeable (Ninebot, King Song, InMotion) is that they can fix the issues over time.
Do you think I could use my Z10's battery in a Z6?
I believe so. I'm almost 100% sure there is no such thing as a Z6 vs Z10 board or Z6 vs Z10 motor, so it all should just be interchangeable.
Definitely off.
Even with my 3 years on EUC now, I'm trying to see how anyone would like this feature, but can't find the application.
Same as my electric skateboard in that regard. Good advice though. Thanks again for your help👍
Sure, np.

@houseofjob do you think a Z6 is worth it, compared to the Z10? Thinking mostly the difference in power/battery.
People say that it is almost impossible to turn Z10 left or right at high speed...
So, from your experience, how is it?
For me, it's been fine. The wider tire width necessitates a more exaggerated turning technique, but if you lack the proper technique to begin with (IMHO, most EUC riders out there), then the Z really exposes this lack of technique.
@@houseofjob Is it a good idea to buy Z10 as first unicycle for some one who has zero experience?
@@houseofjob Thank you!
Sure thing!
Can one stand still on Z10? It seems possible considering the thickness of the tire.
Yes, you can stand still the longest on the Z out of any EUC I think. It's also super dense, so when waiting for a light, I can slowly do figure 8's and slow turns to idle, very reminiscent of doing the same on my MTen3.
Great! Can you do a video about it? It would be great for me if i can see how much skill i need to gain.
Sure! I will slowly be uploading a whole series on advanced EUC riding technique, as I haven't seen any on UA-cam I think (and not tricks, more practical).
I'll add one on idling / moving slow in crowds.
That's a very insightful (& funny) review 👏
BTW, I have some queries.
1st, do u think this is a good EUC for a 143 lbs,161 cm tall, newbie female rider,
travelling on mixed road conditions, with unexpected rainfalls?
@@houseofjob
Yeah..I guess you're right..a lot of Z10 reviews, mostly by guys, established that it is not ideal for carrying up & down the stairs, which is unfortunate for me coz oftentimes elevators in train stations here are out of order 😔
Can u recommend an alternative to z10 that is lighter but with enough battery to travel at least 50km?

What is “pedal dip” or “Gotway pedal dip?”
Pedal dip is when you turn, if the manufacturer has not created an adjustment algorithm, the gyroscope gets confused as to what is level, since the EUC is leaning down, the pedals will lean down with it. Only Gotway seems to not have adjusted for this phenomenon.

The Z very well could be the wheel you are looking for, but the wideness is a an X-factor (pros: bad terrain/offroad, build quality, aesthetic design; possible cons(though not sure): harder for learning (although you can learn on anything really), and possibly harder for maneuvering))
The alternatives are the wheels I mentioned before.
WhAts a pedal dip please?
Who else watching this in 2023 z10 comeback
