We Filipinos have a love and affinity for puns and play on words. It's actually pretty clever because sometimes it's a double or even triple entendres that makes sense in English but also translates to Filipino. We really love puns! 😅

Judging from the amount of content about it online, it's starting to sweep the rest of the world too. But the only way to find out what's up with ube is for you to try it yourself! In the Philippines, UBE is famously paired well with MACAPUNO, a coconut variety, so much so that "ube macapuno" is a standard flavor of ice cream, cakes and many other desserts. This episode is really sweet 🥲. I remember when A’tin sulked coz our boys didn’t greet us. Turns out they preparing something special a surprise which they weren’t able to release coz of the copyright issue they had to face. Now I feel bad for getting mad, coz it must have been harder for them during that time 😭
The purple ice cream is Ube (purple yam) ice cream. Ube is part of the sweet potato family. Just like sweet potato it has an earthy taste, but has a distinctively nuttier, vanilla-like flavor. Filipinos love ube flavor; we have ube cake, ube jelly, etc., and ube can be added to other pastries and snacks.

I believe so too, If I were one of these winners, I'll be jumping up and down. Or perhaps could not talk for a while I will never as relaxed as they were as if talking to a neighbor. At 51 and a working Mom most my nieces and nephews could not even believe I love SB19, never have I ever stan any group from my younger years but I am totally smitten with STELL, no worries my husband is well aware of it. Cheese flavored ice-cream is actually good. It's not the savory cheese that you might think. It's sweet and it's one of the favorites here in the Philippines aside from Ube (purple yam) flavor. Sometimes, they even combine it, Ube and Cheese ice-cream. I hope you get to try these flavors if you get to visit the Philippines some day. 🥰

UBE !!! 😁🥰 Purple yam. Pronounced, OO-beh. It's probably close to a sweet potato's flavor, but maybe more vanilla like? It's hard to describe. But I recently saw McCormick's put out an Ube extract flavoring here in Manila. Look for it in your grocery store's baking suppplies section. If you have McCormick's, it carries a lot of inexpensive extracts, food dyes and spices.
Then, if you find it, you can get a cup of vanilla ice cream, add maybe a quarter teaspoon of Ube extract, et viola! Instant Ube Ice cream! 😋😛😋

Hilarious ShowBreak episode! 😄The SB19 boys cracked me (and Hurraira) up -- particularly chatty Ken and his so-ridiculously-cringe-it's-brilliant "LMNOP" punchline! Was won over by how Stell & Josh ran with the idea -- their confidence almost convinced me that "Bananarghini EL Mnoffee" was seriously the best name ever! (Fake it til you make it!) 🍌🏎🔠But I fear that, from now on, whenever I hear someone say "banana" or "Lamborghini" or "LMNOP", I will have to fight the urge to LOL -- else I reveal myself as an SB19 stan and/or seem like a crazy dude smiling by himself. 🤪On the plus side, now when I need cheering up, the mantra "6, 7, 8... Bananarghini!" will quickly transport me to a happy place. 🤣
The only way the episode could have been better is if part of the "prize" of the 3 A'TIN winners was to taste and judge the boys' ice cream creations! (To avoid biased judging, they shouldn't be told who made "Almost Paradise" and "BG L MNOP".)

The cheese ice cream flavor is nothing like you’re imagining.🤣It has a good balance of milky sweet and slightly salty taste. Perfect for those who are not into sweets. It’s a classic flavor in PH. It is also paired with Ube(purple yam). Don’t knock it till you try it.
5:27 Ube or purple yam is one of the most well-loved flavor or tastes here in the Philippines (and probably SEA countries, I think they have it in India, too) Filos are crazy for Ube. Yes, we have Ube ice cream, ube cake, ube everything! It has a strong purple color but most importantly, the taste is nothing like you've ever tasted before. So because it's a root crop, you can compare it with sweet potato but ube has richer, creamier, and smoother texture compared to sweet potato.
The violet ice cream, is a local product of the Philippines made from purple yam. Purple when not cook, its a deep violet when cooked. I really like cheese flavour, didn't know it's weird and unsual for other country 😂.

I was laughing so hard when i watched it last night and again, as i rewatched it with you. I wish you could taste the Ube and Quezo ice cream. Quezo is one of my faves. The saltiness of the cheese goes well with the sweetness of the ice cream.
They also made a lot of puns/double entendre like:
Vulcanizing shop - it was very clever of Jah to relate wheel (the shape of the bread) and bulkan (volcano) together.
Bonjour - Ken's play of the french word. He turned it into Bunso (the youngest, referring to Jah).
Magdudurog - it means 'will crush' but at the same time, in street lingo it means 'taking illegal drugs.'
Vanilla - Pablo said 'sabi nila (they say) which is similar to vanilla.

My God, I missed them and Showbreak so much! Though I was thinking, this was filmed (a) shortly after the Fanmeet, (b) when the hashtag “who is sb19” trended on X, and (c) during the viral Gento remix tiktok dance, when little did we know that THAT issue has already crept in. That this was so brave of them to film, for them to put up happy faces for us. And they did a great job. Ken was specifically chipper here, coming from his gamemaster mode from the fanmeet and we love it! 😅
Now about ube ice cream…I watched another international fan’s RV and her face went 😲 when she saw the purple ice cream. It’s so yummy and popular here, they’re sold at the airport and packed well with dry ice so it can stand the journey. Now about Quezo Real (cheese) ice cream…I’m personally a fan! 😅

Mind you what peeps don't understand about the Ube flavor now trending that makes it a distinctly Filipino is that it is based on the Ube Halaya (jam) made with coconut milk giving it a dominant coconut flavor. Some desert places here in NYC use it as is and hits totally different.
I feel the need to defend Quezo Real everytime (esp since it is assigned by Selecta as Josh's fave). The world enjoys cheese cakes, danishes, blintzes, sweet fromage crepes so I don't get why people knock it 😞 I am really quite proud of distinctly Filipino ice creams flavors.
Exactly! Cheesecake has cream CHEESE in it - still cheese. So why not use cheese in ice cream? Although, cream cheese is not salty. But then again, don't people eat fruit slices (like apple) with the salty cheeses? Or dip a fruit in melted camembert or brie?

Josh was right, Ice cream sandwich is not the literal bread only. so many ice cream sandwhiches in the stores with the 2 grahams(whole piece) and with ice cream in between and they are called ice cream sandwhich. the only thing about what they did is, it requires more time to freeze it so it will be an ice cream. but they are all fun to watch.
