    Okay, there are a couple reasons why someone might not ever use Fusion, but I would like to address those reasons and why they can easily be thrown out the dang window!
    So sit back and let the Fusion complaining begin. And heck, maybe this video can convince you that maybe, JUST MAYBE, Fusion ain't all that bad!

    Reason no 4: There are no precomps, like cmon, who doesn't like precomps inside precomps inside precomps where your hundreds of elements are hidden. And when you are working on big complex projects with hundreds of elements and when you need to iterate or troubleshoot something, you'd have to dig deep for hours by opening so many precomps, such a painless workflow and figure out the connections between elements and precomps individually checking one by one, sounds like fun to me.
    Reason no 5: Fusion doesn't have destructive workflow. Like who wants non destructive workflow, in Fusion you build complex VFX/motion graphics with big node trees and then you can swap the initial input and have all of the nodes work procedurally, who wants that? I wanna redo everything every time, sounds way more fun to me.
    Reason 6: Fusion gives you full control over the 'order of operations' of the nodes, that's too much to handle and not artistic even tho it's vital for creating complex VFX/motion graphics. After effects doesn't let you change the order of operations, each layer is processed in the same order and you can't change that, that's artistic. You can't apply transform adjustment before layer mask, for that you'd have to create another layer and use that as track matte, more work, more artistic.
    Reason no 7: Fusion is too flexible, like please my brain can't handle that, I want constraints because we all know creatively thrives in a box. Fusion lets you have a birds eye view of every things you've done so you can quickly go back to any stage and make necessary changes, that's just not artistic for me, I want everything to be hidden inside layers and precomps. Fusion lets you use one node in multiple places and have it influence multiple things at the same time and can visually see it like masking out multiple nodes one one mask but in AE you'd have to manually link that and there are so visual representation (AE has composition flow chart but it's pretty useless), that's artistic.

    I find fusion super complicated because I dont even know where to begin when I have an idea which nodes I need to use and in what order they need to be. And when that node tree starts growing it just starts to look very complicated. It's like having to decipher some puzzle in which you don't understand all the pieces involved how to use them and where to use them.

      you need to start with the basics. Casey has some great tutorials for beginners. it's like learning math. you need to learn basic arithmetic, addition and subtraction before you move onto algebra. start with only basic nodes in fusion and dont move on until you fully grasp the concept of nodes. I promise you it gets MUCH easier after this. once you go nodes you will never go back to layered compositing.

    • @flipnap2112
      @flipnap2112 3 місяці тому +1

      @@smepable each node has an input and output. its very simple. start with a single clip in your timeline in resolve, right click on the clip and "create fusion clip" then go into fusion and youll see the two nodes, one is your clip and the other is an output. click on your input (which is your clip) and add a text node. the network will be created and youll have text over your clip. once you get the concept it will become clear. good luck

    Working entirely in Resolve instead of Resolve & After (Or Nuke) is the reason why Autodesk Flame is still king for online finishing. The only thing Flame doesn't have is the fact that 90% of grades are being done in Resolve. So that's one roundtrip less if someone decides to edit, conform, VFX, grade and finish in Resolve.

    As someone who uses both and has for awhile, I rarely tend to integrate after effects with davinci resolve extensively, I will say though the biggest benefit of after effects is how easy it is to use tools like photoshop and illustrator to actually design and "draw" your scene whether it's for motion graphics or character animation, creating complex scenes with shading and lighting and gradients is so much more difficult in resolve than in AE. Lovely video either way!

      Once you learn nodes like Fusion, you'll stop using anything layer based. Once you go nodes, there's no coming back. Layers would feel super unintuitive and illogical. I don't even touch Photoshop anymore as everything inside Fusion makes logical sense and anytime I use layer based software, my brain stops working because it's not logical like Nodes.

    • @JuptOfficial

      @@rano12321 as someone who uses both nodes and layers i woudn't say it was so extreme personally, I used layers a lot growing up in photoshop and I started video editng using hitfilm express, then I after a year switched to premiere pro and after effects then I switched to davinci resolve, I would say I am well accuainted with both of them but Fusion simply lacks the flexibility that makes AE so good at motion graphics, Im well accuainted with both of them but in all practical senses (other than using expressions and custom controls) you are limited to the parameters available within each node, whereas in after effects you can manipulate shapes and objects with much more flexiblity, especially with the amount of scripts available.

    tbh, the main issue is that is that absurd editing power requires absurd processing power. I can endlessly pay a Adobe for something that runs easy, or use something WAY stronger than needed because it's free. Like using a sledgehammer to hang a picture because it's what I have lying around. Just OPENING fusion can freeze the program for a good few seconds. And playing back an effect? even when cached they might lag, a nightmare when your edits are often frame-by-frame and NEED precision. But since giant powerful things like Fusion are Resolve's main edge, they're always focused on that.

      Make sure you are over the recommend specs or else you wouldn't have a good time. Resolve utilized multithreading and gpu whereas most of codebase of premiere relies on one thread which is fine on lower end computers but it doesn't scale well when add more cores and gpu.

    The one thing I still don’t use Fusion for is animating vector files like a client’s logo. I know you can import SVG files into Fusion but a lot of times they don’t play nicely. Animating a logo is usually a one time thing and I just export the alpha so I can use it wherever I need. I really wish Fusion could get to a point to where it can be more user friendly with vector files and natively import them. And I’d really like to see them revamp how text is done too. It’s rather cumbersome.

    The 3 main reasons to avoid the Fusion page are performance, performance and performance.
    I have 32GB RAM, a current gen i9, 3070Ti and 2 SSDs but Fusion still can't cope with real-time playback and crashes all the time just from doing simple things like a magic mask and a couple of videos behind it.
    The Color and Edit tabs are many times faster and slightly more stable than Fusion.
    I get much better playback if I use layers on the edit page rather than merge nodes in Fusion.

    I've got a question about fusion that i simply couldn't find an answer to. If for example i do a Friday Night Funkin style video or anything else where i make for example custom arrows in fusion with the squares circles etc. and connect the final object to a duplicate and play with the TimeOffSet so that i don't have to repeatly place the same arrow just with slight offset it happens in the end that i run into an issue -> stuttering and lag in playback.
    I'm relativly new to DaVinci and doin something like this where i create an arrow in fusion and make it move from bottom to top and make it disappear doesn't sound that hard to achieve but i simply can't get rid of that lag in the playback. What i would like is to keep stuff like this as a macro so that me or other people can simply use it for their own good without having to download extra media for it.
    Maybe there are some settings i missed to change but it shouldn't be that hard to get 24 fps in the playback, instead of stuttering 11-17 when trying to play the effect in the edit. Having the studio version and good graphic card as well as other components so from that side it shouldn't be that big of a problem.
    Does anyone might have some answers on how i could improve this kind of stuff so the playback isn't shitty af?
    Arrows are just an example here, overall i would like to know what is the limit of stuff you can create inside fusion until your playback gets broken.
    Also eliminating objects isn't a thing and just shrinking a arrow doesn't make it disappear in the end for the program just to understand that concept, right? Cause i could have tons of duplicates, set units to 0 and it still would lag while theoretically it doesn't paint anything on screen, i just idk i don't understand fusion enough ig

    Reason one: it’s the least optimized piece of software I’ve ever come across. The simplest graphic grinds the whole project to a halt. Meanwhile, I zip into Apple Motion, do whatever I want and export it in the time it takes Fusion to recover from thinking about working for once. It’s not an ideal workflow, but when you need 10x the power to run the same thing in Fusion that’s running effortlessly in Motion, I start factoring in electric bills and upgrade costs.

    • @rano12321
      @rano12321 4 місяці тому +2

      One of the biggest hurdle with Resolve + Fusion is that high system requirements, these softwares were used to cost thousands of dollars and was only used to make really high end movies. There are videos that are decade old where people where running full Hollywood level comps with hundreds of nodes in realtime on GPU, no software still can do that. Fusion is a whole another program that shoved inside Resolve which is why it has a high system requirement. So if you don't have a good computer, you're not gonna have a great time working in Resolve with Fusion and if you're doing complex projects with hundreds of nodes, then you'd be better off using the standalone version as it takes a lot less Ram and processing power to work. Make sure you have caching settings turned on otherwise it's not gonna cache.

Make Resolve and Fusion training more accessible. That's what Apple did with FCP and the only reason FCP isn't still dominating the editing market is Apple killed it on their own. Make a more cost effective and user friendly software and make learning it accessible and🎉 everyone wins. Want to kill the Premiere/After Effects domination? Then remove the Fusion frustration and the edit world will run to Resolve so fast your head will spin. Better hurry before Sora AI kills editing altogether.
