I hope we get a new Maniac Mansion with Ron Gilbert. I would like to see the original playable characters further developed. I remember back then being upset that only Bernard was in the sequel. It would be cool if they make a new one, you find a computer where you can play the original game (like they did in Day of the Tentacle) only this time it has the 50% new puzzles and new playable character Ron mentioned to David Fox. And speaking of David Fox, I would like a new official Zak game too some day. =)
I asked David on Twitter if he would consider it and he said he would but not _right_ now as he’s just finished Monkey Island and needs to relax - understandable!
I'd love to see the remake tell "the real story", as the original Maniac Mansion is just a fictional game "based on real events" in the Day Of The Tentacle universe (in which history has now been severely altered through time-travel shenanigans). The only parts we know for sure to be canon is that Bernard was part of the rescue team, formed a close friendship with Green Tentacle (despite being portrayed as being terrified of him in MM) and that someone microwaved Ed's hamster (or tricked him into believing someone did). For all we know, maybe it was Dave who got kidnapped but some executive decided to make Sandy the kidnappee instead (because of sexism in the 80's), just like they made Bernard a coward who's afraid of flags. There should also be a puzzle revolving around the vacuum cleaner that all Americans are required by law to have in their basement.
I'd play it. 2D style, but if it could be like the NES version that'd be awesome! Allow me to select the old NES music too, cause I chose Michael usually for his music lol
It'll happen, if not by the original guys i'm sure indie creators will do it. Thats the thing alot of people dont realize, when companies die off, its fair game.
DOTT was always my preferred one of the two, but Maniac Mansion is more than welcome back. Almost all LucasArts titles are (DIG, Zak, anyone?) What bothered me with MM is the way it could easily dead end. If it's brought back I hope these poor game design choices aren't replicated, even though for some they might be part of its appeal.
@@janskia If they remade it I don't think they'd create dead ends. If it's made by Ron Gilbert, which I think it would be, he'd probably look at ways of avoiding it entirely. Perhaps with one or two chances to dead end, but only if the player ignores plenty of warnings or does something obviously stupid. Generally speaking, he's against dead ends in adventure game design!

It had a sequel. The Tentacle wants to Take On The World.

They should hire Steve Purcell again and have him use an art style similar to his Monkey Island 2 cover art. :)
