People complaining about the Hornet's existence have very short memories. Not very long ago Dodge was the company that made the Journey, Avenger, Caliber, Nitro, and Grand Caravan. It needed those cars to sell in volume (along with the severed Ram line) to justify things like the Viper and Hellcats. Now I fear for Dodge's future - not because of the Hornet, but because it doesn't have MORE mainstream volume sellers. We'll see if being an E-Muscle company works out for them, but I fear the nameplate is on thin ice.
@@TheCharleslatrelle By Dodge, for now, yes we will. Ford and Chevy can still make thier muscle cars because they have allllll those other models to offset both the emissions and development costs of the V8's. The point I'm making is that Dodge hyper-focusing on muscle cars looks good in a showroom but wasn't sustainable long term. The boring, non-enthusiast cars are essential.
Same planet, different worlds. Hornet fills a needed niche for Dodge going forward, but doesn't come close to being an alternative to the big comfy long wheelbase Charger sedan. It's more a modern R/T trim Dodge Caliber. I chose to buy a 2023 Charger R/T last month.

The waitress said sorry we only have mushroom pizza for sale. So I walked out since they didn't have the pepperoni pizza I wanted. So they're trying to sell me what they thought I wanted but not actually what I really wanted. This is probably a bad analogy but I agree with what you said. They're building cars they think people want as opposed to what people actually do want. Major change from a i. C. E. To a plug-in. I don't want to plug in a car for 2 and a half hours everyday. you can go a week or so without stopping at a gas station. It's a pain in the neck just to charge my cell phone everyday. I surely don't want to do that to a car

You know, the only one I think that is even remotely interesting is the GLH. That still It's not for me. I'm tired of 4 cylinder vehicles. I currently own a V6, and I'm not ever downgrading to a 4 Cylinder.
Risky time for the strike for Dodge and Chrysler brands. Not enough product offerings since RAM was spun off. Keep in mind Stellantis originally didn't want Dodge and Chrysler brands, they only wanted Jeep, but had to take them all as package deal, so it wouldn't take much for them to pull the plug on either.
Drove a AWD 2L GT Plus Hornet. Not a bad little car but I couldn't hit the gas without hitting the brake, Cell phone charger is useless since my S22 won't fit.
And if the SRT4 fit in with Dodge then the Hornet should to. People forget they Dodge use to own the market for performance compacts (Omni, SRT 4 Neon & Caliber.)
I dunno. Too much technology, and too much new stuff in the Hornet. When I want good gas mileage, I have a little Mazda that I drive around. When I want some fun, I'll drive the Charger R/T.
Ok Racer X, I understand you are trying to bring new content, but let's see why the Hornet is a NO Fing way! Daimler Benz engineered the Charger. Fiat engineered the Hornet. 😝 The Charger has a V8 without gimmicks of forced induction and electric motors. Charger has a much longer wheelbase than Hornet meaning better ride. Finally the Charger has more interior space and trunk space than the Hornet. The Frogs at Stellantis can try to sell what they want, but I don't have to buy it.
If you can buy a vette! It can walk almost everything but a hellcat and still comfortable. If you need the 4 doors, the charger scatpack is the way to go
Honestly the hornet gets very undeserved hate. I absolutely love big hemj dodge v8s, I am a dodge fan through and through. The hornet gets so much unnecessary hate. I personally think that it’s a cool, snappy little sport compact suv
The HORNET is NOT MUSCLE anything! It’s a boring face lifted nip & tuck Alpha Toenale compact suv. It looks like every other boring look-a-like car/suv. There is no excitement for anyone getting in it and driving unlike getting in a Challenger/Charger and experiencing miles of smiles doing it! Dodge can keep that TURD. Nice review anyways
My choice, 2014 Charger R/T with all wheel drive. We need that in the north. Our neighbor's new Jeep Grand Cherokee's problems are with the technology that the Hornet possesses. What happened to just planting the accelerator for "the power boost"? The Hornet is not for me.
If Dodge would have simply challenged the EPA on their overreaching regulations in court this could have been avoided. Instead, they rolled over and let the Ecoscam continue to destroy their company. I see dark times ahead for Dodge without their V8’s.
I appreciate you testing the Hornet but I don't think Dodge will meet their expectations with it. You know most people that buy this type of SUV want a RAV4 or CRV. I mean maybe Dodge can make a small profit like the Dodge Journey.
...These cars are in two different classes and have different buyers. The Hornet is for young moms and the Charger V8s are mainly for guys wanting a non boring car!!!
Thank you for this comparison. It looks like I am going to commute to work further than I have in the last 10 years. I have a 2012 Charger R/T Max. Love the car, it is comfortable stereo is great blaa blaa. Cars range is around 300 plus or minus 10 mile. Seats 5 fairly well. It has been my work horse car. However unlike Florida where you are X I have to deal with occasional snow and ice. I was considering getting a 4 wheel drive pick up (ram of course) or possible the Hornet in some flavor. Thoughts?
Good vid, I still remember frustrating so many 5.7 Chargers between stoplights with my 2015 Chrysler 200S 3.6 AWD. That car launched hard enough to put a tickle in your belly and rear end. So many Chargers squealing away while I waved bye-bye unless there was enough road between the lights for them to start gaining it back 😂. That was a fun daily.
Haven't even watched the video yet, and I'll take the Charger RT all day over the hornet. In fact, the only Charger I wouldn't take over the hornet is the models that had the 2.7 V6. We rented an '07 Charger with the 2.7, I think riding lawn mowers accelerate faster....lol. We had a '10 Challenger with the 3.5, put 200,000 miles on it with 0 issues. The only complaint was that the car was a bit heavy for only 250 h.p., but still a great car.
They need to add a first and last call badge on the hornet. This is by far the worst thing I’ve seen dodge do. Over $40k people gonna buy a Prius if you want gas mileage. 😂
Remember, when everyone was hating on the new Supra. Now that car dominates the streets essentially. I’m sure the Hornet will be better technology, and the better choice in the long run…..

You know, the only one I think that is even remotely interesting is the GLH. That still It's not for me. I'm tired of 4 cylinder vehicles. I currently own a V6, and I'm not ever downgrading to a 4 Cylinder.
Again, surprised you didn't talk about the worker strike
Risky time for the strike for Dodge and Chrysler brands. Not enough product offerings since RAM was spun off. Keep in mind Stellantis originally didn't want Dodge and Chrysler brands, they only wanted Jeep, but had to take them all as package deal, so it wouldn't take much for them to pull the plug on either.
You need to wear sunscreen. All of a sudden you turned into a Willy Wonka character. I will let you tend to your chocolate River! 🤪🤣
What in the world are you talking about?
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 what
Great video, not going to hate on the Hornet, but I am going to wait and see what kind of bugs / issues it may have.
Wish these were in Australia 🇦🇺 omg
Compare the Hornet to the Alpha Romeo
Maybe good for a teenager, someone going to high school or college..👍✌️
Let's not forget. The Dodge Neon R/T existed and I owned one. Great economy car with small performance.
Shame that they can't combine the Hemi with Hybrid
I dunno. Too much technology, and too much new stuff in the Hornet.
When I want good gas mileage, I have a little Mazda that I drive around.
When I want some fun, I'll drive the Charger R/T.
45 grand for half a car, is stupidity
Does anyone remember the original Hornet from AMC back in the early 70’s? Enough said!
Plug in hybrids are completely useless.
Edit* do you want a real RT or a fake RT
Charger
There is no comparing period lol
This is a joke right?
Unfortunately it's not a joke
If Dodge would have simply challenged the EPA on their overreaching regulations in court this could have been avoided. Instead, they rolled over and let the Ecoscam continue to destroy their company. I see dark times ahead for Dodge without their V8’s.
Didn’t watch the video but charger RT. Hell I’d probably rather take a 2007 Charger RT.
Aww man! You have to watch the video! It helps out Paul and his channel! I share the same thought as you. I'd go with the 5.7!
Nah, V8 is sipping 93 and screaming America 🇺🇸. That will make a lot of difference. I called mine bipolar 😅😅😅.
Cmon now
I appreciate you testing the Hornet but I don't think Dodge will meet their expectations with it. You know most people that buy this type of SUV want a RAV4 or CRV. I mean maybe Dodge can make a small profit like the Dodge Journey.
For around town the hornet is a cool car but a fun car is my charger scat pack, it would be nice to have each, great video 👍👍
...These cars are in two different classes and have different buyers. The Hornet is for young moms and the Charger V8s are mainly for guys wanting a non boring car!!!
Come on man u can’t compare a R/T with the hornet lol
The hornet is an RT as well .. which is why I did the comparison
@@RacerX9 is a water down R/T
I tend to agree.. which is why I did the comparison
Creative comparison. When I see those two parked nose to nose, I can only think His and Hers.
Thoughts?
Good sales pitch, but still it's only lipstick on a pig. 280 hp is 280 hp nothing fast about that.
got a modified AAM1150 to fit under a 1994 ford thunderbird 🥸 form page said 800lbft Cummins tested. trimmed tubes etc... retromod?
Please include Toyota Prius in this video
Ok will do
Charger for sure
Since I already own 2 Chargers, maybe I'd consider the Hornet R/T if gas prices continue to rise but I only drive 6-10 miles a day on either cars.
Lmao, no Hornet junk for me. A rebadged Alfa Remeo? Really? No thanks.
Lol what new supra bmw stock is trash...
Ya, that one lol 🤡@@RTb0y954
🏆Racer X🏆Sera Sera what will be will be 🍀 got R done😎✌️
Lol common Paul. None of your subs are going to choose the Hornet over a Charger 😂
Probably true .. but you know me! I have to be objective and not bias
Why is that even a question I would rather have a charger than a suv
