Noice, dude! I still prefer the 2XIPA, but for the value, both are solid. Just some old school hop-forward beers that a ton of folks in NY state have had before. Glad you dug 'em, duder! Cheers!
Dude, I drank so much Southern Tier from late 2009 until 2013ish. So many good beers! I wish they brought back some of their OG Blackwater series beers, as many of them were outstanding. These two have always been solid for what they are -- and I agree about the price point -- but they just don't stand out nowadays. I enjoyed doing the side-by-side, though. Cheers, buddy!
Enjoy these side by side of regular IPA and their big imperial brothers. Interesting to hear some of the similarities and differences. Also with some of these older IPAs it’s crazy how much this style has evolved. I agree these IPAs are essentially modern APAs. Don’t get much Southern Tier around here outside of the pumpkin beers in the fall. Cheers 🍻!
Me too, man! It's always fun to revisit some classics, but especially older hop-forward beers, as you can see how they evolved, as you mentioned. If I traveled back to the early 2010s, I'm sure I thought the IPA was super bitter and over the top, haha! I'll always hold a special place in my heart for Southern Tier, but a lot of their modern beer leaves a lot to be desired for me personally. The classics are still good, though. Cheers, Dan!
Thanks, buddy! No worries at all, like I've mentioned before. I'm behind on checking out vids, too. It's the Summer, so it's expected. Cheers, brother!
Thanks, Andre! Both are most certainly classic beers, and it's cool so many folks still enjoy 'em. The 2XIPA is my favorite of the two, though. Just works for what I'm looking for. Cheers!
Nice, Billy! l remember you mentioning that you enjoyed Eel River's offerings. As for the tornado, it took place about 20-25 minutes south of me, as I'm in a northern suburb of Buffalo. However, a few friends of mine saw it, and they said it was crazy. Can't believe a tornado hit downtown Buffalo, but it's 2024, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Cheers, brother!
I don't think I've had many hop-forward beers from them that I love, but the 2XIPA and Unearthly are probably my two favorites, although the latter I haven't seen in years. Their big pastry-esque beers are definitely more my vibe. And yep, pumpkin season is almost here. Trying to figure out what to review for the 10 Days of Pumpkin this year, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. Cheers, again!
Tried both this year, thoroughly enjoy them both! Cheers, Joe!

Southern Tier super OG in the craft game 🔥🔥🍺🍺
Gonna have to revisit these, been a while. 👍🔥🍍 I agree though, very middle of the road/average brews. Solid for the price point though. Cheers 🍻

Nice comparison. Getting through vids cheers!

great review, totally agree on the relative lightness and freshness and improvement of the 2x over the 1x - both great beers though...

I enjoy them both but they are nothing to get excited about.
I would agree with you 100%. Fun old school beers, but nothing amazing nowadays. I prefer the 2XIPA, though.
Cheers!
Just had a dipa from eel river brewery and it's pretty good. Did the tornado 🌪 come close to where you live or could you see ir here it cheers 🍻 🌪🌪🌪

I have not been super impressed with their IPAs. I think they do much better with their sweeter beers. Almost pumpkin season!
