@@cartoonhuman8150 if you grow up in australia you will likely learn the indigenous place names in your local area, but not everyone learns those names in school and lots of people dont remember them. in recent years there is more encouragement to use indigenous place names alongside Anglican names on signage to raise awareness :)

Like, I'm familiar with the tribal territory around Perth, Western Australia. Haven't got a clue of anywhere else without looking it up. I literally only watched Gab play 20 minutes into the game and then bought it for myself, finished playing it last night, and came back this morning to watch play the game. I was so obsessed with this concept. As a musical theatre kid and a creative writing major who specialized in theology it's like someone made this game just for me. I didn't expect to cry as much as I did. It was a brilliant concept exceptional writing. I'm already ready for a sequel. Egyptian gods anyone?
I had been looking forward to this game ever since I heard Laura Bailey (Grace) and Ashley Johnson (Calliope) performing that opening duet on stage, a few months ago. Such incredible vocal talents, and two lovely ladies! They're both involved in Critical Role - an actual play ttrpg show on twitch. It's weird to recognize most of the voice actors in this game, they had some big names on the cast! I was watching your playthrough with my mouth agape. What an interesting idea for a game!
The fact that the voice actors for Ellie, Abby, and Joel are in this is awesome. especially in the begging where Grace(Abby) and calliope(Ellie) sing together.

This game is reminding me of Percy Jackson a bit, with grace looking kind of like Thalia, Apollo’s house looking like a garbage dump, prophecies supposedly being really unhelpful, and the main character being thrown into a mess with very little heads up.
Interesting concept for a game. Musical performances with elements of Phoenix Wright? I'm here for it. ESPECIALLY when you're playing it. A chill experience is all the more relaxing and engrossing when Gab gets her hands on it.
Oh!! This was on my radar (since, c'mon, Laura Bailey sings in it), but now I'm definitely getting it. Also, if a woman showed up in the middle of my solo to compliment me and THEN sing a complementary verse for her audition, I would add her to the band on the spot.
I love how much of Laura Bailey's personality comes out in Grace. I'm very curious how this will end. There is one thing that still keeps me from trying to guess who killed Calliope though, when she showed up at Grace's door, Grace asked her who did it and Calliope said it didn't matter. That could be nothing, just Calliope saying that there are more important things, but it could also mean that either she was trying to protect her killer, it was an accident, or something else entirely. As suspicious as Athena seems to be, that just doesn't seem to be the right answer. Guess time will tell.

I saw Stray Gods and I came as soon as I could had to see the work of some of the best voice actors ever. So excited hearing Laura Bailey and Ashley Johnson.
God, I love Pan so much. They really pulled from all his stories and what he becomes, considering that some sources claim he was the basis for Lucifer, hence his wheeling and dealing. Pan is older than the Greek Pantheon and much, much older than Christianity and Middle Age Christians had a fun habit of turning pagan gods still being worshipped into demons to discourage their continued faith.

I want to say that, for that disclaimer at the start with it eing made in Australia, that wasnt mandatory. It is common etiquette and required in most states to acknowledge the people of the land you are standing on when you begin a group activity of significant officiality. But that is just for in person gatherings, like school assemblies and stuff. But to turn around and say outright "this game was made on stolen ground" is incredible, especially with the referendum that is going on at the moment.
Holy crap, I’m in love with this game! Definitely gonna go buy it to play for myself. My only thing is that I think something is up with Freddie…don’t get me wrong I adore the character bc that’s 100% how I’d be in the situation as well (major mythology nerd), but something is just off. The fact that they specifically told Grace not to tell any mortal but then Pan just comes up here and says it’s all good?! Also, how Asterion was impressed with her knowledge, pointing out that “she knows a lot more than any other mortal”, is sus, but she could just be a major nerd. The one that’s really getting to me though, is that when they confront the enforcer outside of Medusa’s place, Freddie coughs to get his attention, causing him to look AROUND Grace at Freddie, and then and ONLY then, does he allow them in. Plus, where was Freddie for the song, was she just in a dark corner, or was she still outside, maybe talking to the enforcer bc they both know stuff?
I’m sure you knew this but the story of Medusa is very unfortunate Poseidon forced himself on her and Athena caused her bc she wasn’t “pure” anymore that’s prolly why she is basically a slave to Athena and she’s scared of her bc she was blamed for something she didn’t even want to happen
Some stories even have it that Athena changed Medusa into a Gorgon so that she would be able to protect herself from any men trying to hurt her in the future. That she cast the 'curse' to help her, and give her the power to save herself. The symbol of Medusa has become a symbol to women who have survived rape or sexual assault. There was even a bunch of mosaics uncovered recently of Medusa that people believe was a women's dormitory.

Can I say that I just love that opening number? I don't remember the last time I so quickly connected to a character in a video game! Those lyrics really resonated with me because I was and still am what Grace is feeling; especially when I myself was in college. I actually teared up a bit because of how well and quickly I resonated with the song. This is definitely going on my "do not watch anymore so I can play it myself" list. If this opening number is this beautiful - my personal resonance with it notwithstanding - I'm very interested with how the rest of the game will be! I have to say that Apollo's singing voice reminded me of Bryan White's voice who did the singing voice for the character Garret in Quest For Camelot even though I know it's not him, it just gave me the same vibes

Tw SA Backstory for medusa if anyone is interested… She was a human who used to worship at Athenas temple. As Athena is the goddess of virginity Medusa had to be too. Poseidon wanted to mess with Athena so he SAd Medusa in her own temple and Athena got mad and cursed Medusa. I’m not sure if it’s greek or Roman mythology though
Athena isn’t the goddess of virginity, she’s just a virgin goddess. Priestesses just had replicate how their chosen god lived (E.g. Athena and Artemis were virgins so their priestesses had to be, on the other hand Aphrodites followers where like sacred sex workers.)

All of these gods are pretty hot, I can confidently say that as a demi lesbian! The singing is amazing. The voice acting is awesome. I see that the cast has some iconic people in it. We're in for a wild and wonderful ride. Also, I feel like this soundtrack is gonna slap and I'm def adding it to my Spotify listening list.
I just hope she finishes it. I really like a lot of the promotional games she plays and a lot don’t get finished. I understand that’s it just meant to give us a taste of the game but there are some I really wanted her to play more of lol
My god. The cast of this game. Is beyond amazing. I know Ashley and Laura from Critical role and their other games. But I never expect them to open up and sing like this
T_T Is this all we get from Ashley Johnson?? Her voice is warm, smokey, and hauntingly emotional. Like a cello, I could listen to all day. Laura's voice has a brighter more flutey tone to me.
The songs are still good maybe even better(personally) at 2x speed. Their voices are amazingly beautiful and got me tearing up at how gorgeous the songs are.
Medusa part was totally my favorite the scary bits were scary creepy intense peeks with the silly points that broke the tension pefectly so you are just engaged further as a pallet clenser, SO GOOD
One of the stories of Medusa is that she was a priestess of Athena, but Poseidon ab*sed her. Then, as punishment TO HER, Athena cursed her with her monstrous appearance. (Sad story, indeed.) Later, Athena herself sends a hero (hercules?) to k*ll her. On the other hand, the game looks great and the voice acting is amazing. The mystery, the music, the hot characters and the incredible friendship. 10/10
It's Perseus. And there's like a bajillion layers to this myth. One can interpret the affair as consensual (as it is in some versions) and the punishment upon Medusa justified for her having sex in a temple. (big no no in Ancient Greek religion) Or you can interpret it as SA and Athena is an asshole. OR you can consider the "punishment" to actually be a gift so no male, god or mortal, would ever be able to hurt her again. Also, Athena doesn't send Perseus to kill Medusa. One of the Greek kings demands a gift from him and his himbo ass promised the head of Medusa. And it took gifts from four gods to kill her.

Can I say that I just love that opening number? I don't remember the last time I so quickly connected to a character in a video game! Those lyrics really resonated with me because I was and still am what Grace is feeling; especially when I myself was in college. I actually teared up a bit because of how well and quickly I resonated with the song.
This is definitely going on my "do not watch anymore so I can play it myself" list. If this opening number is this beautiful - my personal resonance with it notwithstanding - I'm very interested with how the rest of the game will be!

I have to say that Apollo's singing voice reminded me of Bryan White's voice who did the singing voice for the character Garret in Quest For Camelot even though I know it's not him, it just gave me the same vibes

Backstory for medusa if anyone is interested…
She was a human who used to worship at Athenas temple. As Athena is the goddess of virginity Medusa had to be too. Poseidon wanted to mess with Athena so he SAd Medusa in her own temple and Athena got mad and cursed Medusa.

That’s the Roman story I think. The Greek story is she was always a snake woman, and sister of two other gorgons.
Athena isn’t the goddess of virginity, she’s just a virgin goddess. Priestesses just had replicate how their chosen god lived (E.g. Athena and Artemis were virgins so their priestesses had to be, on the other hand Aphrodites followers where like sacred sex workers.)

2-iove all the DND references since Laura Bailey the lady that plays our lovely muse grace is a huge DND nerd as are most of this cast surprisingly and play on the live play show critical role as well as other live play shows on UA-cam
3- I love how much of Percy Jackson this reminds me of and the dialogue is incredible and the musical great too

I just hope she finishes it. I really like a lot of the promotional games she plays and a lot don’t get finished. I understand that’s it just meant to give us a taste of the game but there are some I really wanted her to play more of lol

My god. The cast of this game. Is beyond amazing. I know Ashley and Laura from Critical role and their other games. But I never expect them to open up and sing like this
T_T Is this all we get from Ashley Johnson?? Her voice is warm, smokey, and hauntingly emotional. Like a cello, I could listen to all day. Laura's voice has a brighter more flutey tone to me.

The songs are still good maybe even better(personally) at 2x speed. Their voices are amazingly beautiful and got me tearing up at how gorgeous the songs are.
I love it when characters break the 4th wall in musicals. Self awareness cracks me up
Medusa part was totally my favorite the scary bits were scary creepy intense peeks with the silly points that broke the tension pefectly so you are just engaged further as a pallet clenser, SO GOOD
This playthrough is really making me consider getting the game. It's so entertaining

One of the stories of Medusa is that she was a priestess of Athena, but Poseidon ab*sed her. Then, as punishment TO HER, Athena cursed her with her monstrous appearance. (Sad story, indeed.) Later, Athena herself sends a hero (hercules?) to k*ll her.
On the other hand, the game looks great and the voice acting is amazing. The mystery, the music, the hot characters and the incredible friendship. 10/10
It's Perseus. And there's like a bajillion layers to this myth. One can interpret the affair as consensual (as it is in some versions) and the punishment upon Medusa justified for her having sex in a temple. (big no no in Ancient Greek religion) Or you can interpret it as SA and Athena is an asshole. OR you can consider the "punishment" to actually be a gift so no male, god or mortal, would ever be able to hurt her again. Also, Athena doesn't send Perseus to kill Medusa. One of the Greek kings demands a gift from him and his himbo ass promised the head of Medusa. And it took gifts from four gods to kill her.
I am so, so happy you're playing this game! I knew it was going to be amazing based on the cast and the concept was so intriguing. And to be able to watch my favorite streamer play and react? It makes it all the better.
