I've seen and met Breaking Benjamin a few times and twice when I saw them play this song live, they turned all the lights out and had us use our phone lights to shine at the stage and they said "The only light that you see is the light youre giving us" and I loved it. Hearing hundreds of people sing Give Me A Sign was incredible
This song is off their album "Dear Agony." It was the first album Ben wrote without the support of alcohol. He would use alcohol for writing music and became an alcoholic in the process. He finally became sober to write this album and his best friend (his grandfather) passed away while writing this album. I think in between his grandpa passing and staying clean he was able to create some of the most bittersweet music. I love this album so much. I used to listen to it every night I would drive to my gf's house in my teens. My favorite on the album is "Without You."
he went on a bender chugging alcohol and has migraines because of it thats what the album cover is its his mri cause they dont know whats wrong with him
I think the lyrics are from the perspective of the man who died in the car crash, but he doesn't want his girlfriend/wife to die so when Death himself comes for him, Death let's him know the girl will live and he can move on to the afterlife.
"Dear Agony" is another one by Breaking Benjamin that hits the heart. If you do check it out, I suggest the re-recorded version they did with Lacey Sturm, on their compilation album "Aurora".
Having worked in the ED/Trauma Centers and the ambulance for 18+ yrs, this song really hits home for me. I remember most of the patients who died and my very first code was a 2 year old who oulled a dry cleaning bag over their face]. Ill never forget that one!
fun fact: this album was the first time ben wrote sober and have softer lyrics since most of their music are pretty deep because ben was a heavy drinker which caused him major health problems and would get very depressed but he worked on getting sober and wrote songs for the album dear agony and was a huge success
So each room is a reference to the previous albums. The kid represents the first album(on the monitor), the man with the finger tattoo was the cover of the second, the being walking to each room is the 3rd album cover, and the 4th (Ben's brain scan with is the album cover) is left in the room because it's the current album. The man leaves with the being because that's Ben's darkness and addiction showing that he is healing.
Another one of my favorite bands. I love Breaking Benjamin! I discovered the group from the hit "The Diary of Jane" and I've been a fan ever since. I have all their albums. "Dear Agony", "Red Cold River" and "So Cold" are other heartbreaking songs.
Phobia, as a whole, is a highly underrated CD by them IMHO. And they don't put out hardly any, if at all bad stuff. But Phobia just transcends. When I was a bar manager my staff asked for that CD every night I closed. Such a great CCD to just jam, sing, and yes clean to.
I used to listen Breaking Benjamin like back in 2009/10 when we're studying high school. Growing old, joining military, All my friend that i listen with were all apart now in our own ways.. Miss the good old days.😢
Awesome reaction! 🤪 i’m glad you reacted to this, I’ve heard of Breaking Benjamin for years, but never took the time to listen to them. I’ll have to listen to more!
The album Phobia is the first album the lead singer wrote sober. he suffered with alcoholism for the longest time and once he became sober he wrote this album and all the songs reflect his struggles with the addiction,
breaking benjamin is an amazing band u should make more videos on them, some really good ones like "So Cold" "You" "Breath" "So Far Away" "Evil Angel" etc. u should make some on these!
I think the black tears symbolize the darkness of the soul, such as suffering, fear, and sadness, and it melts away as the person realizes the guide is their to lead them away to a new world away from their suffering.
Listened to this song dozens of times but never saw the video. Man it hits hard. My grandparents (technically step grandparents but not really) just got in a car wreck. My grandma didnt make it and my grandpa did but is messed up pretty bad. Just had the funeral a couple weeks ago. So seeing that couple there.... man.... BB is something different and just knows how to tug at your heart.
I love breaking benjamin almost as much as i love you're take on this song. You can use this to feel a lot of different things or if you need a good cry. Sometimes you need to let it out especially if your like me, a man who holds everything in and then breaks down alone
Man, ive been listening to this song since i bought the album on release and i have ALWAYS thought this song was written to god and was about his struggle with his faith. I thought "ill keep you alive if you show me the way" was him saying, ill keep your name alive but i need proof or "a sign". "God help me ive come undone, out of the light of the sun" I always heard as "out of the light of YOUR SON", as in jesus. Wild. Like 15 years of listening to this album and never once did i think it was about anything else. Reading all of these interpretations has been a ton of fun.
Fun fact: the faceless being in the music video is the evil angel on the cover of the album phobia and symbolizes bens inner demons although he is a really good person
This song hits me so hard now. I watched my brother suffer with bone cancer for about 4 years. Next month will be a year since he passed away. This song will always remind me of him and how I wish I could have done something to help him.
I used to work in hospice care. End of life care. I'd get.close with the families and patients. But it was their tragedy i was just there to help them pass with comfort and dignity. But you definitely see family who are looking for sign that their loved one can still hear them. But I've also taken the song to be a little hopeful. No longer the lost. No longer the same i can see you're starting to break could also be about starting to leave a very dark place emotionally and into something better. Or if we take it back to my days working in hospitals people who come back from near death or recover after something like stroke or heart attack and need physical therapy but they recover. Or od and slip into a coma and come back and get help to get clean
Breaking Benjamin has always been a cathartic band for me. ADTR is another type of hopeful sadness vibes but BB was definitely the start of this kinda music. They always hit those spots in the brain and in the heart that we don't get from other types of genres. They're heavy in many ways than one lol. 😅
Interesting take on the video, but I think you missed a little. The figure walking up and down the hall isn't Benjamin, it's the Angel of Death. He's taking away people's pain by taking them away from their bodies. In the last room, based on the opening scene, you're led to believe that there's a young man crying by the bedside of his critically injured wife/girlfriend. Based on what occurred in the two previous rooms, you now see Death visiting, and you, the viewer, think, "Oh no! He's come to take her away!" But Death isn't there for her. The young man has been dead this entire time. He didn't survive the crash. From what I understand, Benjamin wrote the song (and much of the album) about his struggles to overcome severe alcoholism. This song is about the periodic wish that Death would just come and take him away from the physical torment that was the severe symptoms of alcohol withdrawal.
If you haven't already listened to it, I recommend the titular song to this album, Dear Agony. Either the original or the Aurora version with Lacey Strumm. Beautiful song.
They are suffering and, Death..(The Entity)..The representative of the peaceful transfer from life to passing... is leading them off to whatever might be next. He's the one that died. That's what I'm seeing....but I read a lot of syfi fantasy stories....... Incarnations of Immortality by Piers Anthony comes to mind.
The one thing that is great about this song (and many others) is it can have different interpretations based on someone's experience and it won't be wrong. I always saw this song as being about a guy asking God to give him a sign that he shouldn't end his life because everything is either dead or dark. That second verse sounds like someone who is ready to end it. "I'll rise to fall again" meaning every time he gets out of these feelings he ends up back in them. So he's asking God to give him a sign that everything is going to be ok. That's why the end has the woman waking up as he is about to be taken out of life by the Shepard of the damned and is lead out of the darkness into the light.
so the black tears mean death. so basically the grim reaper came to claim the souls that died the boy, the old man. and then the boyfriend. thats why she woke up. he gave himself for her
Seriously love this song but the music video is amazing as well. Love all the Easter eggs to their album covers. The guy meeting each patient isn’t Ben either it’s the “Evil Angel” on the cover of Phobia. The Evil Angel is taking the patients to the afterlife at least that’s how I interpret it.
The brain scan in the video was Benjamins, he had a drinking problem and actually was having severe neurological issues from it. This could be about his personal battle with addiction.
Love yer channel, and reactions! Keep up the great work! Been a huge Breaking Benjamin fan since the beginning. Ben's gotten me through some tough times. I have a deep understanding and nothing but respect for thus band! I absolutely love "Down" off their last album. It a great jam that didn't get much play. But honestly I don't think Breaking Benjamin had a bad album.❤
The man that comes to the child that weeps the dark tears is the Angel of Death the man who comes to the older gentleman who is definitely sick and Ill is the angel of death and the and the dark tears
By far my favorite band.. all such great people and they sound as good live as they do recorded! I hate their label got them so over produced sounding in their return album but their newest one sounded like they were bringing back the original sound! They are off label now so I expect this sound to come back!
Hey Ray been watching since the beginning of your channel and still refuse to subscribe till you do Dayseeker - Neon Grave. Promise you won't regret it.
I've seen and met Breaking Benjamin a few times and twice when I saw them play this song live, they turned all the lights out and had us use our phone lights to shine at the stage and they said "The only light that you see is the light youre giving us" and I loved it. Had the same experience with them a couple times. Truly one of the most magnificent concert experiences I've ever had.
Same thing when I saw them in 2015. It was surreal to see how much light was actually generated from it.
IVE BEEN THERE FOR THAT TOO!!! Absolutely amazing experience!!
Breath live is still the best I've seen with audience. Besides electric callboy, BB has the best fans singing back
It's hard not to sing along to Breaking Benjamin.

This is by far there best album it's in my top 5 of all time not 1 bad song on this record
'Ashes of Eden' is a great ballad by them.
I concur
Give me a sign is sad
I think the lyrics are from the perspective of the man who died in the car crash, but he doesn't want his girlfriend/wife to die so when Death himself comes for him, Death let's him know the girl will live and he can move on to the afterlife.
"Dear Agony" is another one by Breaking Benjamin that hits the heart. If you do check it out, I suggest the re-recorded version they did with Lacey Sturm, on their compilation album "Aurora".
Yes!! It's such an amazing version. Lacey and Ben compliment each other well!!
Acoustic aurora version is nice, but imo the original one is much better.
The whole album hits extremely hard on the heartstrings.
I prefer the acoustic version he did by himself in his basement.
Having worked in the ED/Trauma Centers and the ambulance for 18+ yrs, this song really hits home for me. I remember most of the patients who died and my very first code was a 2 year old who oulled a dry cleaning bag over their face]. Ill never forget that one!

And Jasen Rauch (now in the band but wasn't back then) helped write some songs.
So each room is a reference to the previous albums. The kid represents the first album(on the monitor), the man with the finger tattoo was the cover of the second, the being walking to each room is the 3rd album cover, and the 4th (Ben's brain scan with is the album cover) is left in the room because it's the current album. "no longer the lost, no longer the same"
Favorite line right there
The 'Red Cold River', 'Torn In Two', and 'Tourniquet' trilogy is definitely worth a watch/listen!
BB is just a awesome live. Talked to Ben and he's super sweet!
At this time in Ben's life, he was in a "Leaving Las Vegas" frame of mind. He beat it, survived and thrived and brought us all incredible music.
Another one of my favorite bands. I love Breaking Benjamin! I discovered the group from the hit "The Diary of Jane" and I've been a fan ever since. I have all their albums. "Dear Agony", "Red Cold River" and "So Cold" are other heartbreaking songs.
This band helped me the most in my tough times.
breaking benjamin always perfection
Phobia, as a whole, is a highly underrated CD by them IMHO. And they don't put out hardly any, if at all bad stuff. But Phobia just transcends. When I was a bar manager my staff asked for that CD every night I closed. Such a great CCD to just jam, sing, and yes clean to.
Phobia might just edge out We Are Not Alone as my favorite album of all time.
Saw them in 2019 and it's was the best live show I've seen. BB is one of the Best modern rock bands imo.
I saw them when they toured with distrubed a few years ago. If you ever have a chance to see breaking benjamin live see em. It will be worth it.
I used to listen Breaking Benjamin like back in 2009/10 when we're studying high school. Growing old, joining military, All my friend that i listen with were all apart now in our own ways.. Miss the good old days.😢
Yeah this is what i want, next do reaction to "breath"
Eversince his songs helped me deal with bad times when I was younger I can only describe Breaking Benjamin as "he knows what it feels like"
I love this song so much... i can't explain why... it make me feel so... i just love it
Awesome reaction! 🤪 i’m glad you reacted to this, I’ve heard of Breaking Benjamin for years, but never took the time to listen to them. I’ll have to listen to more!

Breaking Benjamin has some good songs. Blow Me Away (which has 2 versions) is a must hear.
I think the black tears symbolize the darkness of the soul, such as suffering, fear, and sadness, and it melts away as the person realizes the guide is their to lead them away to a new world away from their suffering.

Good thing I started listening to this album more and more. Great song.
Breaking Benjamin is criminally underrated

Great song, and great review of one of my favorite bands. Lifelong subscriber from now on.

You guys will LOVE how hughie & starlight's relationship developed in the following seasons
Forget it = eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (movie)
I recommend lissening to the misic alone (studio version?) it has some more Very beautiful vocal runs and chorus, it's very pretty
One of my favorite songs..

Todas músicas de breaking benjamin são lindas 🖤🇧🇷
The tears are the mark of death, death as comforting. Is not as hopeful as you think.
Breaking Benjamin is one of my favourite bands of all time it would be cool if you listen to ashes of Eden that song is awesome
Interesting take on the video, but I think you missed a little.
The figure walking up and down the hall isn't Benjamin, it's the Angel of Death. He's taking away people's pain by taking them away from their bodies.

That's my take as well. Love the Incarnations of Immortality...On a Pale Horse is my favorite, of course, but the others are good as well.
The one thing that is great about this song (and many others) is it can have different interpretations based on someone's experience and it won't be wrong. Breathe is one that I am very attached to by them.
I love it! Do more Breaking Benjamin!
Highly recommend doing Down off of the album Ember. Ben plays with his range a lot in that song!
so the black tears mean death. so basically the grim reaper came to claim the souls that died the boy, the old man. and then the boyfriend. thats why she woke up. he gave himself for her
Great song!! They trim down some of the song for the music video, but you should still check out the full song if you haven’t already!
YES!!! More Breaking Benjamin
That last scene looks like God came to lead him home and healed her so he was able to let go and move on.
So love Ben Burnley and Breaking benjamin ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Please please please do more of BB!! They are so awesome and have plenty of great songs! I promise you won't be disappointed 😉
They have so many good songs👍👍
Breaking Benjamin doesn't have any bad songs. This is a rabbit hole to go down for sure.
Love yer channel, and reactions! Keep up the great work! Been a huge Breaking Benjamin fan since the beginning. Ben's gotten me through some tough times. The man that comes to the child that weeps the dark tears is the Angel of Death the man who comes to the older gentleman who is definitely sick and Ill is the angel of death and the and the dark tears
in this video, Ben is the angle of death helping their souls move on
By far my favorite band.. all such great people and they sound as good live as they do recorded! They are off label now so I expect this sound to come back!
