For those of you who find that the cam sensor doesn't resolve your acceleration problems, there are a few things to know. The term for the acceleration problem on the Stratus is "limp mode". Often, the car goes into limp mode because the TCM isn't happy with the crank sensor, even though the engine is fine with it. Consider changing the crank sensor. It worked for me.
Great video, took less time to change the Cam sensor on my 2006 Stratus than it took to watch the video. Cost me all of 40 dollars to do. Not the first time l have solved a problem with one of my vehicles with a UA-cam video. Thanks for posting this one.
Thanks for the video! The hardest part was getting that little red tab off of the sensor. Yours was so easy and mine was not. Otherwise this was very easy to do. Sure beats paying $50.00 in labor charges, like my local mechanic quoted me.
I put a new cam sensor on my dodge stratus put a new one on car ran fine then a week later it started back messing up not going pass 2000rpm but why did it mess up again a week later after a new one was replaced?
I can't really answer for sure why they go bad may be cheap made but what i say is it's the nature of the beast . all cars have problems like this 2002 to 1994 Dodge caravans transmissions are junk about 60 to 80 thousand miles they go or the pontiac grand ams quad 4 motor head gasket problems i guess its just the way it is sometimes Thank you for watching and for the question !! .
When my camshaft sensor want my car just shut down it crank but wouldn't start . Do you have a video how to replace a heating hose line for a 2002 Dodge stratus 4 .2 L
I have been told by Chrysler that the 2004 Dodge Stratus SEDAN is a Chrysler vehicle. The 2004 Dodge Stratus COUPE is a Mitsubishi version sold as a Dodge Stratus. The COUPE version has a different Camshaft Position Sensor than the Sedan apparently. This is confusing if you need to replace it.
This is true the coupe with the v6 3.0 engine is a Mitsubishi engine . The engine here is the 2.4 dodge we engine. I will say any dodge/ Chrysler vehicle its easier to always give the vin number they have a habit of switching parts mid year thanks for watching
My 2000 dodge stratus se has a problem with this i believe. When the check engine light came on i took it to advanced to scan for a problem and the code P0340 came up. I just had it tuned up yesterday because it wouldnt go over 2 rpm and would shake like crazy. Any info on what i should do would be greatly appreciated thank you and great video btw
Ya it was a combination of my cam sensor and valve gasket it runs fine now but i ordered the cam sensor strait from dodge i would recommend doing that and maybe getting your wires checked out as well
+LIVINGnEXILE Thanks for watching , The computer sometimes knows you put the new sensor on and sometimes not so what I would do is unhook the main ground cable for 5 to 10 mins and hook it back up . that will reset you pcm
2005 dodge stratus sedan dohc. Spark plug misfire sounds like ticking going down the road changed all ignition and fuel system on the engine didn’t fix my problem trying this next
AlpHa J3 16 valve means 4 valves per cylinder so yours is a duel over head cam engine . If it was a single over head cam it would only have to valves per cylinder . Thanks for watching hope this helps
my check engine light came on, on my 2.4 2004 dodge stratus. checked the code and got a p0340, saying it was a camshaft position sensor. like youre saying cant get above a certain rpm. im gonna replace it tomorrow, could something so little like this sensor going bad, be causing the problems that my car is having? ie, not being able to get above a certain rpm and accelerate properly.
+thelatterrain92 I would be willing to say that 99.9% thats the problem . The cam position came really mess with you because it may not do it the next time you start your vehicle and in the mean time you change something to fix it and it seems it did and then it acts up again. Good job checking the code first and thank you for watching means a lot
gotcha. and no problem thank you for putting the video up, was a very big help!! put the new sensor in my car today and totally fixed the problem! i can now get up to 4000 rpms easily and with no problems, im honestly shocked that such a small part like that would do the job. thank you again would have been a pain in the ass figuring it out myself, you saved me loads of time! dont know if you care about it or not, but you got a new subscriber!
4x in 4 years? Are we using aftermarket parts? I had a Dodge dart (75) and many astro vans and they didn't like aftermarket distributor caps. Even Bosch. Sure they would work, but OEM lasted way longer. For that reason I don't bother with aftermarket on electronics and most other parts if I plan to keep the vehicle. You get what you pay for.
M Kaba The check engine light sometimes goes out on its own . I had to use my scan tool to shut mine off , you can unhook the battery for a few minutes also kinda of a pain though .
The mechanic i went to said with parts and labor it would cost 305 to fix my cam shaft position sensor on my 2005 dodge stratus. He said it would take an hour or two. After watching the video it seems too quick and easy for the amount he wants. Could there be a reason it cost so much?
the sensor at my price was right around 40 dollars . if I was billing someone it would be a hour . Do it yourself very easy to do any questions let me know . thanks for watching
+autorepair101 The mechanic didn't mention anything else that needed to be fixed besides the cam positioning sensor, could there be another issue he didn't mention that needs to be fixed?
I changed mines didn't fix the problem, I changed every sensor, the when it hit 2nd gear it starts to shake so bad, I've changed every spark plug and everything I guess
+autorepair101 the car actually started jerking after I filled up after being on E, if I replace the sensor and it still jerks while in park to reverse to drive etc. what will be the next step?

You just saved me a ton of money taking it to a mechanic. Probably the easiest job I've ever done. Your a legend! Thanks a lot!

Reminds me of the problems the 7.3 powerstrokes have with cam position sensors. Nice video, thanks.

Another question is this engine transverse ? So I've heard they sit sideways that's why labor would cost a lot
I put a new cam sensor on my dodge stratus put a new one on car ran fine then a week later it started back messing up not going pass 2000rpm but why did it mess up again a week later after a new one was replaced?
thanks for video I have a 2005 stratus
glad I could help thanks for watching
Where did you get the part from?
Thank you
Thank you very much the video was so helpful But my question is why do they go bad so often did I hear that correct that you changed it four times?
I can't really answer for sure why they go bad may be cheap made but what i say is it's the nature of the beast . all cars have problems like this 2002 to 1994 Dodge caravans transmissions are junk about 60 to 80 thousand miles they go or the pontiac grand ams quad 4 motor head gasket problems

You don’t clean the surface off where it mounts before installing the new sensor????
Can anyone tell me where it is on a 2001 dodge stratus se coup 2.4 engine
I changed it and it was very easy like you said. Unfortunately my check engine light is still on throwing the same code? Any suggestions?
Need to reset the codes with a diagnostics code reader, or maybe disconnect the battery. Not sure the battery disconnect will work though
If my 2002 dodge stratus won’t start could this be it..?
When my camshaft sensor want my car just shut down it crank but wouldn't start . Do you have a video how to replace a heating hose line for a 2002 Dodge stratus 4 .2 L
Thank you for watching I do not have a video on that I'll see what I can do
Thank you so much
you are very welcome thanks for watching
No problem

this worked!! check engine light went off and first day felt great. no more codes with OBD2 checker. thanks
did you order online? do you have a link to the parts website?
05 stratus keep bending the spark plug tip on cylinder 1 any idea??
Junk in cylinder maybe, or gap set too wide, or it might have been repaired with a heli-coil and #1 plug sits a little deeper in the head,
2005 dodge stratus sedan dohc. Spark plug misfire sounds like ticking going down the road changed all ignition and fuel system on the engine didn’t fix my problem trying this next
i have a 2004 stratus sxt coupe. 2.4l 16 valve, how do i know if its sohc or dohc it doesnt say?
AlpHa J3 16 valve means 4 valves per cylinder so yours is a duel over head cam engine . If it was a single over head cam it would only have to valves per cylinder . Thanks for watching hope this helps
autorepair101 SOHC engines can have 16 valves as well

is it true that you might have to remove the timing belt in order to fix cam sensor on a 03 stratus?
lnx13lostokers. Thank you for watching as far as I know you don't have to
No it is the some place on the 03...
DOES IT GO BAD BECAUSE IT HAS OIL ON IT DOESNT IT NEED A GASKET?OR SEAL PROTECTING MAGNET?
Oil doesn't help it and the rubber gaskets get cracked from the heat , The internals aren't the best either . Thanks for watching and commenting !
Does anyone know the part # on this?
Just took care of it but lost the red tab in the process
Where is the o ring located ? On 2005 dodge stratus . Do you know & would it be an easy replacement like so .
Shaudae Preciado. thank you for watching is it on a 2.4 engine if so it should be just like this one
O ring is that the gasket you had used from the old sensor ?
Shaudae Preciado. yes its the same one
it was the new one they threw in the box
Does the check engine light go off after the new install?mine didn't!!!
M Kaba The check engine light sometimes goes out on its own . I had to use my scan tool to shut mine off , you can unhook the battery for a few minutes also kinda of a pain though .
All set! It went off!! And the car stopped acting up...Thanks a bunch!!

JimmyJoker have you checked your motor mounts ?
would this help your car to start?
victoria victor thank you for watching .... is the motor filling over ?
will the cam sensor cause the car to start jerking/idling rough?
Thanks for watching ! yes it can I can explain it as when you start running out of gas
+autorepair101 the car actually started jerking after I filled up after being on E, if I replace the sensor and it still jerks while in park to reverse to drive etc. what will be the next step?
