This is one if the best you’ve offered; concise explanations to the relevant issues most of us ponder. You’re making the casinos less of the bad guys and putting the onus on the players. Before I started watching your videos I would sit next to players all the time complaining that the casino “turned them off because it’s dead today”, meaning there wasn’t as much play so they didn’t want to pay out. Now I just tell them that’s not true and explain the statistics you’ve provided. It certainly makes playing more fun understanding the reality of the machine operation. Thanks for posting
Very informative. Its things like this that we really don't think about but can be so helpful in educating ourselves before hitting the casino. And its so hard to get those myths out of our mindset lol. Thanks Marc! 😊
Marc, you are dead on once again! I have 4 casinos in my local area and I visit them all on a weekly basis. I have won the most money at the casinos that post the lowest "return to player" stats. Keep up the outstanding work partner!
This was really good Mark! It’s so hard to get those myths out of my head when I am losing! I always want to blame the casino… really interesting explanation on the return / payback … Thanks!
Excellent video but I would still like to know about multi-denom machines are the payback percentages set the same across each denom or do they differ for each denom
Okay, I'm going to comment/question here. 1st I want to say , I'm not trying to be negative. But I would like to know how you are able to view the attendant menu??? Are you a casino employee. I was under the impression your just a "regular joe" , playing for fun and hopefully profit. Since subscribing to this channel I have used your methods for building a bankroll on 3 separate occasions, and doubled my money. Doing much better than my hubby. Even giving him an extra $100 of my bankroll to continue to play(he's skeptical and broke). I don't try for jackpot, just double my money and go home. I feel that is more practical. Hubby has made comments that you guys are employees, not regular Joe's. So what's the deal, are you just paid to gamble to get the rest of us hot and bothered?
Excellent educational video. I especially liked being able to see the Accounting menu of the Piggy Bankin machine. Stuff you’ll never see on other slot channels.
Large volume weekends (public holiday ones) means an increase in trade. this counter balances the "off" weeks where playing volume is low. Every retail joint encounters the same issue, they use the "sale" method to offset this, plus it gets rid of slow moving stock. McDonalds doesn't change the price of their burgers between Christmas and Easter due to the "new Year gym fad" that occurs where everyone is on a weight loss diet and no longer buying big macs same as casinos and slot machines. The machine will pay for itself many times over (as well as cover those comps from the casino) during its lifespan.
I’ve been so unlucky with 3 reel low volatile slots at CET Vegas that I will stop playing them starting from my trip to Vegas next week. Past year, I’ve had 8 sessions at CET High limit ($10-$100 bets) and lost all 8 with devastating results without a single hand pay. I had 2 sessions at non Vegas / non CET casinos (Rivers Chicago & Ameristar Indiana) and got hand pays at both. It’s either the lower RTP or just bad luck at CET in Vegas.
Me & math don't jive. What I got from this video is that pay back percentages really don't matter since it's all VERY long term. I contacted Mohegan Sun in Connecticut today 3/28/24. They said their pay back percentage is roughly 91% across the board. I thought that was low, but now I know it really doesn't matter when looking at the big picture. Right?? Gawd...I hate math!
I don’t know if it’s possible but it would be amazing to see the pay results of a slot machine that is being retired or has hit the 10 million pull mark….just to see how it worked out. Great video and love your channel!!
Go to Deadwood, SD when you get a chance. Nearly every bar on their strip has a small slot area. I didnt do well there, but I stayed at a Super 8 motel nearby that had a slot room. They had numerous machines that had tags on them which said they had verified payouts over 1 million spins. I did pretty well in there.
Thank you I am glad I found your channel I have learned a lot . Mark and Brantley I have walked with more after I started watching you guys from before thank you thank you thank you
How can you guarantee that it will hit the intended rate after 10MIL spins? Being 100% RNG, what keeps some machines from heavily favoring the player or house even after several million spins.
Forgive me if this has been answered somewhere, but when it comes to RTP, what exactly does that mean as far as money returned? If a machine is set to 95% RTP, does that mean that over the long term 95% of the spins will yield at least the players bet back? Or is it that 95% of the spins will yield some amount back (whether it’s $.02 or $2,000)?
It means that if it's set at 95% Payback, 95% of all the money going into the machine will be returned back to the player. So, let's say the machine has had $1,232,434.00 put through it, $61,621.70 of that would go to the house (casino) and $1,170,812.30 will be paid back to the players. There will be variance though - meaning, in the short term, it could be paying back only 20% to the player or over 100% back to the player (like the example in this video). But, over a long period of time, about 10,000,000 spins on the game, it will come close to the 95% setting on the machine.
My Question is about online slot play. I e been playing for a couple years now online more often. Why does a machine pay out so much and with so many bonuses when you first start or sign up? Then after a month or even a couple weeks, it doesn't pay out like that ever again? The two doubles and a 7 for example, or bigger scenarios like that? This has happened numerous times with numerous reputable online casinos.
How about convenience stores that have machines. I've seen when they take out the money according to your video they change the payout to the highest pay back to the owner of the machine each time. Are they regulated?
Great vid. I try to tell my friends to stop believing those myths on slots but it's hard for them to change! I send those old farts to your channel to learn! Cheers from Florida
Very informative channel. I’ve used your methods and and had few good runs on slots. What’s really helpful is I now stay away from high volatility slots. Please keep up good work.
This is still unverified, but the consensus is that the less crowded it is, the more likely you will get a bingo win before someone else. We are still looking to get this verified though, so take it with a grain of salt!
Does every small hit, ie mixed bars, count into the payback? For example, the smallest hits that are meant to keep you going, do those little tiny hits along the way count toward the overall payback? I would imagine they do, but since they are so small and don’t make much of a positive effect on your session, they don’t feel like payback, but they are. Can you verify?
Return to player is every game played, including losses and losses disguised as wins. That 8 credit win on a 80 credit wager is included in the RTP values. All these numbers are telling you is the average. The theoretical RTP is the average of all possible game outcomes. The actual RTP is the average of all played games.
Very good video. Good information, Marc. You explained that very well so that us players can understand. Now, one Question that may be for another time is the RNG. I saw an article about the RNG's being changed in Vegas and then it changed most of the casinos to have the RNGs so that people lost more. I don't think that sounds correct, But there is an article on the internet. Have you seen it and what do you think of it?Probably not true.
Ok this will turn into a long winded question lol the other day when you were talking about red screens you said you were competing in a game of bingo against other people so does that mean that people have to be playing the same denomination or just playing red screens games for you to have the ability to win or can you still win on the bingo style machines if nobody but you was playing no matter how unlikely that would be I'm asking because when Windstar does not give me any bonus play I'll usually stop by border casino and people over there earlier in the morning can be pretty sparse
I have to admit I used to be one of those people that refused to play a machine that had a big win still showing on the reels. The best cure is to hit something big on the first spin on those machines. 🤣
Hi Marc: How about new machines? Are you saying that they are more profitable, or, is the new machine a part of the total machines of its denomination in a casino? Many thanks and God’s blessings to you & yours!😄😄😄
Does video poker show up on the gaming reports? The lowest denomination is 5 cents, then 10 cents, then 25 cents, 50 cents, and $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, and $25. I have also seen $100 a few times.
Thank you Marc! Very good info. I have a question if I am understanding correctly the longer the machine is on the floor the Return to player and house win percentages become closer. Would be a slight advantage to play an old machine? Also how many years are LV casinos required to keep them on the floor?
Don't think of it as behaving differently after 10,000,000 spins, each spin is still an independent event. It's just that the more spins a machine does, the more the AVERAGE becomes closer to the payback % setting.
@@CowboySlots ok got it thank you. Every trip I go I try to look for the same machine (I.D. number) and I play it. Is there a certain number of months or years casinos are required to keep the machine on the floor?
Nope, it can be removed the day after it was installed if they wanted to, although they don't typically do that. Casinos are only interested in one thing and one thing only. Are people playing the game? If they aren't, they will relocate it or they will replace it.
I wish the casinos were regulated to put the payback %/rtp on the machine like in places like Wales. I’m not sure if that’s all of Europe or certain countries.
Thanks for the info, helpful as always. The jump cuts though, whew. I was getting nauseous. :) Are these a youtube feature or is that in the editing? I know nothing bout this stuff.
Make a video explaining a game Denomination combined with Bet amount, so if a game at 10 cents with a max bet of $2.88… and game indicates you won 12895. What is the win amount in Dollar amounts.
Great information as always. I have a question. My wife and I will be going on a cruise at the end of the month. I'd like to know how payback percentages are set on cruise ships and who determines it. Are they published somewhere? The ship we're on is a Celebrity ship which is owned by Royal Caribbean. RC is a US company headquartered in Florida. Would percentages be set by Florida gaming rules or can they do what they want. Thanks.
Cruise ships are regulated just like any land based casino. They don't publicly release return to player stats or payback % setting information. However, they are consistent with land based casinos and have legal minimums that they have to abide by.
It seems like casino's pull machines (sometimes a whole bank of them) when they're paying a lot. This has happened multiple times at the casino I go to. I win win win on a particular machine and can't wait to go back but find when I get there the machine has been moved or removed. I don't know, seems wrong.
Casinos pull machines from the floor for a variety of reasons but none of them are because of them paying out or not. Older machines are often replaced due to lack of parts and get resold or traded for newer machines. On the flip side, newer machines are leased from the game maker and can be swapped out by them for newer titles.
No. 10 million is just the average number of spins it takes a machine to come within 90% confidence of its theoretical payback. Majority of slots on the floor have already well exceeded that.
Hi Marc, I had a question about the first myth which is the machine active balancing. Are you referring to the accounting record that Brantley talked about in one of his older videos?
It's all luck I have won huge jackpots first spin, other times, nada, nothing. I love it. You never know. It's fun if you're watching your bankroll. But it's still gambling
6:15 funny how it is said that it doesn't matter what time or if there's an event with a lot of game play/player traffic yet when they mention covid times the percentages are lower due to less traffic in game play lol
You misunderstood what we were saying. The stats were off during covid because the variance was greater. Less results, more variance. It doesn’t mean the machines paid any different than they normally do, it’s how the accounting reporting works.
This has been a topic that I haven't agreed with the guys on entirely. Slot payback percentage DOES matter, especially if you play slots without massive jackpots or these big expensive machines with movie/show licenses.Your money will typically last longer! I'm sure Aria treats them well but if you want better payback percentage, take a short cab to a locals casino or downtown. Less frills the better! Also, I've always found that these reports show very favorable increase with 5 cent denom compared to penny. They are usually as good as dollar denom.
@@CowboySlots thoughts on the 5 cent denom comment? It's usually 4% points better than penny! Between this, and being on a low volatile machine, your money typically last longer, even short term.
You have to consider that there are far fewer nickel machines than penny machines. Because of this, the "swings" (also called variance) that you see in the RTP stats can be misleading. For example, the quarter flipping example. Imagine you flip a nickel 100 times. You might end up with 63% heads, even though it should be closer to 50%. Now, flip a penny 10,000 times, you're going to be probably very close to 50%. So, seeing the nickel at 63% heads, you might be convinced that it's a better overall play. However, the odds are still 50%. Make sense?
In the RTP stats we looked at in this video, the number of penny machines reporting in the month of June 2023 was 45,055 and the number of nickel machines was 899. Big difference there.
The biggest money maker for the casino is ignorance. If you go in with a better understand of how the machines actually work, not get caught up in myths, and budget responsibly then you become a smart gambler and have a better time in the casino.
😂😂😂I declined to go to the only casino in NYC because there was a rumor that the machines were rearranged every night. And they were setting a winner next to a loser 😂😂😂. So if you went the next day the slot machine may be somewhere else.😂😂😂
I will have to say while at Bally's in Shreveport La I was playing a game .25 five lines and winning over $600.00 when I cashed out and tried to add a @20.00 to continue the machine went black and came back on and I sent @200.00 and never hit anything again, next week it was gone
Well put Marc, I have a machine I set at 88% but the actual payout since I got is 128%. You are spot on.

I'm sure Aria treats them well but if you want better payback percentage, take a short cab to a locals casino or downtown. Less frills the better! Also, I've always found that these reports show very favorable increase with 5 cent denom compared to penny. They are usually as good as dollar denom.
We don't say it doesn't matter, it just doesn't in the short term. :) We know this is a hot take for most people.

Isn't the phrase "smart gambler" an oxymoron for about 99%+ of gamblers?
The biggest money maker for the casino is ignorance. If you go in with a better understand of how the machines actually work, not get caught up in myths, and budget responsibly then you become a smart gambler and have a better time in the casino.
😂😂😂I declined to go to the only casino in NYC because there was a rumor that the machines were rearranged every night. And they were setting a winner next to a loser 😂😂😂. So if you went the next day the slot machine may be somewhere else.😂😂😂
Total nonsense 😂
As a nevadian please correct how you say nevada its Neh-VA-duh
Trust me, I'm trying very hard. I've been saying it wrong my entire life. :)
I will have to say while at Bally's in Shreveport La I was playing a game .25 five lines and winning over $600.00 when I cashed out and tried to add a @20.00 to continue the machine went black and came back on and I sent @200.00 and never hit anything again, next week it was gone
