Seriously people chill! "Growls aren't what they used to be??" I'ts nothing to do with surgery his throat is just so tired here from the insane touring schedule and the mental amount of different vocal styles. His gutterals are as goo as ever when he is at the top of his game. I know the exact sound of the tired chords as mine do this after just singing a couple of really high note songs then trying to growl. Its really annoying adn I have to wait days for them to recover!! So imagine this!
I really prefer the Shot in one Take for Shokubeni. More range was presented by Kyo. Don't get me wrong the growls are the reason I love Dir en Grey but I like when he uses his (Kyo's) range

Everybody complaining that Kyo's vocals in this were terrible there good.... but he wouldn't stop cupping the mic it sounded crap don't get me wrong Dir En Grey are amazing just Kyo needs to stop cupping the mic because it sounds like ass
Seems like his voice was just having it bad around that time. The previous Rinkaku was way worse than the more recent lives - not that there're growls in that one.
Kyo's guttural vocals after surgery completely destroy mine on my best day! Easily my favorite vocalist in all of music!

They shoot Rinkaku first before this, so I think he's pretty much exhausted from the high-pitched vocals he throw while recording the Rinkaku video.
