This facility was founded in 1910 by the State Tuberculosis Commission for the Care and Treatment of Persons Suffering from Tuberculosis. From 1924 to 1976 it continued to change names and institutional purposes. In 1976, the facility ceased the treatment of chronic diseases, and discontinued its work as a sanatorium. When the doors reopened, it was a psychiatric facility under the Connecticut Department of Mental Health.
In 2010, all inpatient treatment services were discontinued. Patients were transferred to the Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown or discharged to supervised homes. The hospital continued its outpatient services until mid-2011. All operations ceased in 2012, and in 2018, the land was transferred to the town.

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What may seem an eyesore to one person, just might be a beautiful masterpiece to another. There are places beloved by communities and protected in the hearts of those that hold their memories of its tattered hallways and decayed rooms dear. This is the way that we feel when we explore places that have been forgotten by time. Left to rot and decay and only holding the silent whispers of what once was. We know that there are people out there with malicious intent toward these places that we venture into. It saddens us when we see the filth and destruction they leave behind, but we want to make something very clear… We are explorers and lovers of history. We in no way, shape or form condone the criminal activities that take place in the historical decaying places that we document. Social media has brought many of these places to the limelight, but the intention is to show the beauty and mystery of abandonment. Not to invite trouble. Trouble will find its way on its own and to say that the peaceful documentation of these places leads to criminal activity, is mind blowing. We have met so many amazing fellow explorers in our travels and are so thankful and humbled by the positive responses we have received. We know that this type of exploration is not for everyone…many people don’t understand why we find such beauty in decay, we can only explain it as a beautiful journey into the past. We invite you to watch our explores and come along as we visit these amazing places. As for the criminal activity that occurs, those individuals are responsible for their own actions. It is a terrible part of our society, but reality, nonetheless. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for loving this location just as much as we do. We hope that through this video, the memories held within will remain.

It's amazing to me if it's accessible and safe enough for people to do what this gentleman is doing that more homeless or migrants don't use it for shelter, especially in the winter or shitty weather months. Such a waste of a resource to let buildings like these to rot and the land unused especially when we have a huge problem nowadays with the aforementioned. Be safe ✌🏽🇺🇲

The building is essentially a sound structure. Its ashame that it has been abandoned. It could be readily divided up into small rooms and provide shelter to homeless people and help them make a transition back to self- reliant wage earners. What a waste.

I've had some crazy I guess you could say paranormal experiences at one particular place as did relatives and co workers and I've never forgotten. When I saw that chair in this video in the middle of the aisle at 13:29 I instantly thought of the wheelchair in Grave Encounters ..lol Thanks for doing these videos I'm having a great time going through them.

Came here with my friends some years ago and when we got to the square area in the beginning of the video there were all of these crushed pine cone looking things almost perfectly lined up around the pavement, then we realized they were SQUIRREL TALES one by one by one. We started counting and I think we found 12 or 15. And as we were looking for more we came across a flattened fox carcass. And a dead badger under one of the building. Definitely a predator living there 🤣

The high cost of putting family away from severe debt that puts the grandfather into the sick bed. Without explaination to the family Lord in the future, he is dressed for battle by an Esquire Attorney, but first must be put into traction in a hospital to straighen out his curvature in his spine due to genetic weakness.
