It’s also very important to ACCEPT YOUR ALTERS NAMES! Even if it’s weird or unorthodox. (Of course you need boundaries though.) the third head mate to introduce themselves to me was named America, and because I was so new to everything, my immediate thought was “yeah no, we’ll find a better name.” I later realized that was very selfish of me, and We are both v happy with the name America now. A new alter, however, wanted to go by my dead name (I’m trans) and we had to set boundaries there. But we compromised and found a solution. Just remember to stay open minded when it comes to alters names. (Or anyone’s name really!)
I like this. It’s basically “don’t be traumatic with your name” re: taking away someone’s name or using a name that is traumatizing (a dead name).
@@kitdubhran2968 omg i have an alter that has the name of my deadname because he's me but younger and I call him Carl instead (placeholder name of sorts) and everyone else calls him my deadname and thats traumatic for me but I was always like "am I being selfish? should I just let him have that name?" and I thought I was being disrespectful but this is so helpful I'm gonna try to tell him he can't have that name thanks so much
I’m transgender as well and I’m glad none of my alters tried to go with my dad name because that would be very awkward because I’ve been trying to get people to not use my dad name that know of my older name which frustrates me in the entire system and due to my mental health I am not yet able to get my bottom surgery which is very frustrating and depressing because I can’t stand the caterpillar and his friend anymore

omgg an alter introduced himself as "peepeeboy" to us, and any time we ask "is that a name you want us to call you?" we see a picture of him growling.. best take that as a yes, his teeth are sharp lolol

All of my headmates never came with a name (except for the fictives) so here’s how we find their name:
I talk to them for a bit, and I find one key trait in their personality that makes them important, then we look up names meaning that certain trait, and from there, they choose what name they like best! They end up feeling great about it in the end, because, well, they’re named after what makes them so important to the system :)
Omg that’s adorable. I’m a creative writer so I always am looking for cool names with a meaning that fits the character. I’ve actually never really thought to do that with any alters but I think I’ll try it if they are up for that.

I had an alter who didn’t have a name and she thought the rest of us would be offended if she picked one. She’s thirteen so she chose that as her name.

One of our littles chose 3 names he'd be okay with and then let the host choose which one it was
We used to call the other little that didn't really talk the ,,little girl"
When we discovered one of our persecutors, we were listening to the song trapdoor and started to refer to him as ,,the one when we heard trapdoor" and it started getting shorter and when we first called him trap, he said that that's his name. Atm we think we have someone, who is either just sometimes saying he's trap so we think we already know him or trap has a subsystem.
Oh and we have a robot alter that said that he's a program so he doesn't have a name but wouldn't mind being called by one so our system (which is full of marvel fans) started calling him Jarvis.

We have quite a few R names.
Two are named after nouns and two are named after the same myth.
we have a countless number of alters who’re named NoName in our system and they all stems of an OG alter that was named NoName back in the day, but the OG alter are not a thing anymore, now some of them has chosen a new name after they were introduced to the fact that we’re aware of not being singular - which is pretty wonderful. also I cannot believe that we NOW have gained awareness of alters from the PAST who’ve integrated/gone dormant in childhood, what a win for us as a system. -Rhodonite (I used to be a NoName at one point lol)

I feel the same way I don’t know when I’ll get past that part but for some reason now two names come to mind but yet I don’t know who they are exactly because they personally haven’t come up but I feel them I just don’t know for sure if their names are the ones I’m thinking of one is seven of nine the other one is L 11 from stranger things and seven of nine from Star Trek Voyager I don’t know why those names came to me exactly but yet I feel it too but I just can’t see what they look like or how old they are or much of anything else yet
before my boyfriend figured out hem might has ossd-1b, he dissociated and switched (he didn't know that) and when he got grounded I told him that he acted like a jack, the name jack kept popping up in my head and for a day after I still had a hard time getting the name out of my head, later, he switched again (after he found out he might have it and he was aware of the switch) and the alter felt like his name was jack!!!!!
One thing that's interesting with our system is that a lot of us who did have names have changed them over time for several different potential reasons. The most interesting is that recently our OG came out of dormancy but because she was very young and now is much older but with no memories in between she doesn't really identify with her past/time fronting at all so she chose a new name for herself but the thing is that all of us like the body's given name but don't feel comfortable going by it as a first name by choice but still wanted to feel comfortable answering to it because we are having to be stealth right now for safety reasons and so our work around for this was we collectively took on the body's given name as our (currently unofficial) surname so it felt like people who call us it are just being formal and using our last name. This has helped a lot with our disconnect with it too which is really nice.
As for the way we all pick name's it tends to vary although personally it was difficult for me to find one I really liked that wasn't the nickname of the given name that I went by for so long solely because every time I picked a name that I resonated with an alter would steal it from me which is really funny to me actually.
My facets (Median System here) told me their names during the hypnagogic state (between sleeping and wake awareness)

Loved this. Just watched a video on sbsk about someone with did who’s alters don’t seem to have names so this is very interesting.
We have our alters choose an emoji to represent them when they first appear, and call them by their emoji till they choose a name. Sometimes these emoji names stick, like with one of our littles, Bird, who chose 🐤 as their emoji.
But sometimes the alter already knows their name and they base their emoji off their name, like in the case of Rose, who obviously uses 🌹 for her emote. 🍀
Loved it!! I love those educational videos! This is so important because in the first place I was so worried and anxious to know my system, and some of my alters are still nameless and I found that really really hard to organize and get to know everyone and their roles. But I loved your video because it shows that this shouldn't be that kinda problem and there's many many ways to know my people without worrying so much about human names specifically

When I started to talk in my head the first one (god, I seriously don't like to think or act like i have an illness im not sure about) Alex, it first came out and we talked I never knew his name till once he said "my name is Alex" and I was like yeah that makes sense, then came Carlos and I actually don't know, he can with that name and Nathan was the name of one of my favourite characters from an anime I watched when I was younger, in the anime he was really hardworking, but always felt like he wasn't enough something like Nathan actually acts like. Kylie didn't came up with a name I kinda gave it to her I obviously asked her, do you like this name? and she said she was okay with everything's and then the final one was Hana that came in a dream and she was in a tree with a lot of flowers and the sudden thought of Hana like flower in happened came into my mind. I remember Hana came when I was fighting with all of my voices like " I don't have an illness" BC I didn't wanted to act like I have it if I'm not sure because that would be disrespectful and then Hana came up and I literally fell my whole body numb and the sudden image of her came

When two alters in my system (Robyn and jess) integrated, she had a lot of trouble choosing a new name, eventually settling on Rebekah and RJ as a nickname but she only found that by trying out lots of different names until one felt right
One of our alters has decided to change her name and nearly jumped on me last night when I tried to call her by her old name haha
For me they either
1. Know their name already
2. Don't know yet but I help them choose one
3. I have name ideas but they have something else in mind so I just help them figure out which they like best if they all feel right
We feel a bit uncreative with our array of "normal" names, but that's understandable in light of our desire to be accepted as unremarkable, maybe even a bit boring, both individually as sprinkles (or sometimes spiders) and collectively as a human. So far, only two sprinkles' names didn't come serendipitously: Alex' name is known to the rest of us from when she's first-person in our dreams, and Mercy chose hers after some rumination. Dumb luck has given us the rest. :D One sprinkle is in charge of the subsystem handling most external communication, and just about all normie interactions, including all legal and professional interactions, so her name is our current legal first name. Life events necessitated a change of legal name, and from our former and current legal names Ana, Hedera, Dawn and two other sprinkles have adapted their names. Outsiders accidentally (as in, "I'm sorry I keep calling you that, I don't know why I think that's your name!") call us by sometimes unexpected names, from which Heather and Summer have chosen theirs. Even our system name, "Rainbow Sprinkles," is an ascended nickname which is just too fabulous and too perfect for this purpose to not adopt.
I just found you, from a comment in a recent video from the Entropy System. I discover my alters name when my therapist asks them. I started with my name and age. The first one was Toni16, which is a dominant alter still holding a lot of trauma and emotions. My ‘younger ones’ use the same naming system, Toni3, Toni6, etc. Others are named by function, such as the strong one, the mother, the elder, the writer and the victim. As I worked through therapy and discovered more alters they gave names such as Rose, Lily, Walter and Tanya. I know through therapy there are others but they have not shared their names which I find frustrating, as I don’t remember the issues they bring up in sessions. I still do not know all of the connections in terms of who knows who. I was diagnosed in 2016 and I am still learning about my alters. I don’t know how to put them in their safe places. For most I do not know where their safe place is I became aware of this problem when my adult parts wanted to watch The Handmaids Tale, but it upset the victim, Toni16 and the younger ones, so I had to stop. Our name-finding breaks down into
rose` and homura: came with names
rose: thought for a while and found a name from a chance thought
cyan and leila: spent multiple hours each clicking random on behind the name with some filters
iya: had a name pronunciation but no spelling, tried spellings until one clicked
All of the alters came with a name except for the littles (for what we know now, we're still discovering ourselves). For the littles 2 weird things happend. With the first one I (the host) was just scrolling and searching for cool names to write a story. i read the name "Kibou" and suddendly i felt/heard the little saying "THAT'S MY NAME :D". i was kinda confused but i thought it was perfect for her since she thinks she is japanese and Kibou also means "hope" in japanese, which fits her behaviour. For the other little it was even more weird. I gave her a temporary name just to be able to tlk about her easily, but i kept asking "what's a name that u would like me to call u?". I didn’t want her to take the name i chose just bcs she was used to it. One day i was talking about her and i was typing the name and she corrected me with a slightly different name which i really think fits her.

Hi, I’m/we’re new to your channel, and went through a playlist and found this video! But, to answer your question, I, Star, has recently found out about a new alter’s name, but us as a family (We call ourselves that instead of a system), before we knew there name, but we knew that they existed, we called them “Unknown” because they were an Unknown alter.
(Suspect we have DID/OSDD and have consulted a therapist that might think the same but we haven't been in therapy long enough to know for certain):
How my alters got their names:
Vicious- Was a nickname the host got back in middle school when this alter first came to be
Borsaline- Was a nickname that was assigned to the host by the French teacher/class that this alter felt attached to
Sai- Was a former nickname the host used to protect her identity online that was adopted by the Internal Self-Helper at the time who is now both an ISH and a protector
Chibichi- She chose her name because it means "little one"
Prince - His original name was "Princess" but he's trans. Princess was the name he came with.
Liam - Introject of a former classmate, mainly in the name and inner-world appearance.
Salvia- Unknown other than it sounded goth
Moskau- A song she felt connected to
Charles - Originally 'Charlie' because of British shows from childhood that had that name appear a lot.
Jimmy- Came with his name but he liked the show 'Jimmy Neutron'
Dallas - Name of a cat I used to have
Debrah- She didn't seem to hate the name I chose for her despite her being a persecutor. It just fit her age (she's 65).
Dolly- She's a doll. Nothing else to say.
Hunter- Was the name he chose because he split around the time I was writing a book with a character of the same name. He's not really a fictive but his split came just before the character's story was written so he's somewhat of a fictive.
Patches - It's kind of a placeholder name. They don't realize what year it is yet. They have a lot of band-aids on their arms inner-world.

I have a protector alter who we’ve labeled as “P” for protector (original I know😅) and she hasn’t been willing to come forward with any name yet. Being quite a newly discovered system I think she isn’t quite ready for me to be aware of us and is possibly holding off from finding a name or maybe never wants one.
However, the rest of the names that I’ve come about haven’t been “said” to me in my head. I haven’t yet had any internal discussions with any of my alters. I can try talking to them internally or externally on paper but I feel like I’m lacking an inner world/ability to effectively communicate with anyone. The only way I have names come to me, or communication in general, is through urges or impulses or strong feelings. I feel like my lack of ability to converse with the rest of my headmates makes my experience less valid or fake.
I know I have switched and I have even had a professional acknowledge that I display evident signs of DID/OSDD so I just don’t know why I am unable to communicate.
I’m hoping that when I start therapy I will learn ways to make things easier and give us more clarity but what if I have distinct OSDD-1B experiences without the internal words exchanged between us? Does that mean I’m faking?? I’m so confused so often.
My journaling would point towards validity but my experience in the moment is so not.. I’m trying to keep in mind that being all jumbled up and blurred is just everyone used to pretending to be a singlet and not themselves as individuals so breaking the habit of meshing to present “normal” will be hard to start 🙃
I felt very validated by your description of Naomi figuring out her name. I have a new (to me?) headmate who originally was called Zombie Girl, because of what she looked like when we found her. Since then she's said she's pretty sure her name starts with L and has a "ss" sound in it, like Lacy or Lucy or Liz but hasn't figured out which one yet. With AJ, I just occasionally asked her if she had a different name she wanted to go by until she had an answer that was the same multiple times in a row. When she tried it out, our best friend called her AJ and she got really happy, so that was clearly the right name!

For a few of the alters in the system, they didn’t have names so they sorta just chose a name they liked and stuck with it. One of us will regularly (at least once a month) go through naming websites and just look at the meanings of each names and stuff and it’s a really good way we end up with new alters we didn’t realize were there. It’s like if you’re just looking for someone but don’t know anything, it’s hard, but if you’re calling out to a crowd “Olivia” or something, whoever is named Olivia is gonna hear that and react. Idk if that makes sense? We’ve had names though where we just get stuck on that name and usually a “new” (or at least previously unknown) alter shows up within a week
We actually have 2 alters named after physical appearances! The orange person, who goes by Top or Lava, and Black hooded dude, who prefers BHD.
I know when I was discovering the other alters in the system. I gave them color names based on the mood they presented the most like red to anger, blue to sad, and grey to logical/mostly emotionless. Through time they just told me their names and that was a strange process of suddenly a name being associated to this other being. Skylar identifies as a trans man and wanted to go through the process of choosing a name and at first telling me what his name for sure wasn't. When you mentioned not having a name, it made me think about my relationship with my name. I've always went by as the body's name but thought my only troubles with it was due to me being nonbinary. I think I'm going to have to do some thinking.
Omg recently I had a really sweet conversation with a little and they gave me a cute nickname Ghost Toast. Honestly I kinda teared up a bit but I might think of some way to make ghost toast more name-like and connect with it more. Maybe Ghost will work for now.
We have varying ways that our alters get names. Sometimes (most common for us) alters will tell us what their name is, sometimes it takes a while, sometimes they can’t find a name fitting enough, and sometimes they decide to change their name if their source name doesn’t fit them well enough (for fictives)
I have 2 alters right now! One is Deena , (the host) and the other is mysukii, we both have they/them pronouns. Mysukii is energetic but gets tired easily, Deena is also energetic but doesn't get tired. Mysukii is shy to most people, Deena always has to tell them updates abt life ^^
this is very personal for me but I have always really had this emotional connection to this one name that i would always kind of assume i just liked for a future child i may have or something along them lines. However, after journalling the differences in my personalities something kind of flashed into my mind, that name i've always loved. I had written a few different spellings of the name (including other names that i liked, but mostly just different spellings of my favourite name). Flash forward to more recently when i was documenting my personalities and that "flash" came into my mind, i went though my notes and was reading through the names, and it's kind of difficult to put words to this, but the second i saw a specific spelling of that name, it was like it just felt right, i got all "warm and fuzzy" and realised how much i really identified with that name. After looking through the different styles of personalities that i had noticed within myself, it was almost like a spiritual recognition of how a specific personality of mine really connected with that name, and has for a lot of my life without me really understanding. I am happy that I have a name for this personality, so far it is the only one without just a general identifier at the moment (such as emotion they embody, or an age range), i often refer to this person in inner-world discussions in second person, and even when attempting to provide therapy for me or my alters she can be referred to in third person such as "it's not [your] fault that happened to you", rather than "it's not my fault this happened to me", or "i think that [she] should do this", rather than "i/we should do this".
When I first discovered my alters, some picked names from a name list that I had for writing characters and others just had them.
funny story once an alter formed and didn't have a name so we called them newbie... it's been a while now and newbie is still newbie so i guess it's their name now lol (newbie uses they/he)

Our Rabbi told me about the name 'Aviv' which means 'springtime or freshness' in Hebrew and I like that.
when new alters show up for us, a lot of them dont remember their names at all and what we did with one of them that didnt know was we went on a baby names website and she told me that she wanted a very uncommon name and she eventually chose Celeste :)

i just noticed unfamiliar people talking to me in my head and had no idea how to speak to them individually because i had no way to refer to them so i just gave them names based on other names i used and they were fine w them because they never really thought of names theirselves i guess
OOOH yes, we did the color thing for a while!! Since we already decided we were gonna call ourselves the Chroma System, we thought colors would fit the theme nicely!! Though tbh, I could never decide if I preferred being called Pink or Yellow, haha… but oh well! I deny and supress my alters for many years because my persecutors, the social stigma, etc. Without having the slightest idea about the DID or OSDD-1b Until a few months I discovered that is a medical condition. So far our alters haven't come with names, they chose them when they fronted. For the first one it was pretty quick, saw a name on a book, liked it, went "that's my name now". For another it took longer and didn't even happen during the first fronting. One searched goddess names to find one that fit her personality. One doesn't have a name so they go by X. One is a previous host that was dormant for a long time so she agreed on using a specific nickname of our name. Recently (yesterday) we met a new alter and she did have a name but couldn't remember it so we call her by descriptive things like "demon lady". And some alters haven't made full contact with me yet even though I know they're there, so I have no idea who they are, let alone their names.

Sometimes a name just bubbles to the surface, like a message in a bottle for us. Not all the time, but for the most part. We know this video is a bit old, but wanted to contribute to the comment section anyway. We're still discovering the underbelly of our System and simply wanted to thank you for your content, we're going through your backlog and it's been very helpful.

As of right now, I know for certain only two alters by name. Sora and Miracle. There’s also a suspected Nico di Angelo alter, and I have also dubbed another alter at “Matt,” since that was the name he associated with the first time near the front. A have one or two known little alters, right now I just call them “Charlie,” and “Ashton” until I can gather more information on who is who. Me, the host, chose the name Cameron/Cameryn, and no longer go by my dead name. Since our system is newly recognized, I have given alters “stand in names” for now, until we have better communication with each other. (The most active recently has been Sora, he’s an introject of my oc, I consider him a co-host at the moment, until we can also better figure out labels by learning who is who and what they associate with. We also may have a female alter with no current stand in name, so I just call her “girl” or “she” for the time being, and she’s very on and off with her passive influence and stays for months at a time, then goes away for a while. She and one other little seem to be some of the original ones, whereas the newest members are Sora and Miracle, both introjects.
So I am a self diagnosed ossd1b system and wish there was more systems who would share their stories. I want to but I'm nervous because I am self diagnosed at the moment. I am working with a therapist to get a diagnosis but nothing is solid at the moment.
i have an alter named She because she literally just couldn’t “find her name”. So she’s just... She. She was one of my first alters to appear.
i also have a little alter named Angel. she chose that name because of the character Angel from Lilo and Stitch 😌
i also like to “categorize” my alters by color. mostly to make it easier for people in my life to know clearly who’s mainly upfront. (She’s color is blue and Angel’s is, of course, pink ☺️) So if i’m wearing mostly one specific color that day.. like a blue sweatshirt, they know She’s upfront and if i’m wearing pink, they know Angel’s upfront. i also have an alter named Cherry (her color’s... you guessed it, red lol). But we all try to keep her inside as much as possible, because she’s..... really mean & aggressive 😬

also, i don’t know if this matters or not, but i usually say “i/me” instead of “we/us”. i know most systems like to go by “we”, but for some reason it makes me (and all of us) a little uncomfortable, so... 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️ (i think it’s mainly so i don’t have to explain to people who might not understand why i’m just going around calling myself “we” instead of “i”, if that makes sense🙈)

Just a little advice from a System who’s been around awhile: trying to keep my “angry and aggressive” part inside and blocking her from fronting was actually super counterproductive in the long run. She had a lot of pent up emotions and without being able to front those eventually turned on me. Also, you can’t keep her back forever, and when our alter fronted during times like this she was much more angry and aggressive and worse things happened than when we let her front regularly. I totally understand feeling anxious about letting her out around other folks, and what worked for us was compromising to let her have more time out when we were at home doing our own thing :)

I only have one who is the gate keeper with no name and I only found out about him yesterday and only 1 or 2 came with a name and the rest had no names but wanted one so we chose one they liked
My Alters Alexander and Michael come with their names. The new one, Aria, knew her name started with an A so we went through a database, she attacked to Aria and no matter what I did to encourage looking at more, Aria stuck. Turns out they all three have names that fit who they are (their roles or their appearances)

Some name backgrounds for our system:
The oldest alter that’s near the front is named after the fictional character he was first based on. He’s not really based on the character anymore(there was a split), and he’s a lot more like a different character from the same series. His name also comes from the same myth as the next alter, despite the completely different ages-
Another alter near the front! He didn’t really have a name for a bit, but then we read a myth one day. The myth somewhat matched something that was going on between the bodyborn and I, which this alter was created to deal with. So, he simply named himself after one of the very few figures in the myth. For a while after finding out we were a system, we all believed he was an introject and hesitated to allow him and the alter above to both be in the family, but then he chose his age on accident.
Remember how the first alter we mentioned split? This is the dude he split with.
His name is Rat. He only gained the ability to become a rat after he chose the name.
He has a slightly less chaotic vibe than the character he’s based on, who we suspect might have inspired his name because the character is referred to as a ‘rat’ within the fandom sometimes.
Then there’s Frat. He’s not a full individual, at least not yet.
We used to refer to him as Damian2.
He’s a part of Damian that he rejected, and his name is short for Fratric*de.
Bet you can guess what his main goal is.

He’s named Mortar because he used so be a squishy stone mannequin and Mortar just suits that. I like Mortar. He’s a chill dude.
Our Mumma is named Lavender, and her sister is Viola. They are named after shades of purple. Viola was almost named Violet, but that was scrapped because we already know someone with that name.

There’s also an alter named Choco. I don’t know why we named him that, but please don’t eat his hair.
And Isaac Jr., his name isn’t very original, but it is weird that Isaac Jr. and Isaac Sr.(me) are brothers. We’re both technically bunnies, but he has an actual human form, which is a good sign considering the reason I don’t have one.
We also used to have a Silver and a Goldie, but one turned out to be like Fart and the other was the first alter mentioned trying to help with nobodyinparticular being a codependent lil boy. They were named that because one was a golden mannequin and the other was a silver mannequin and they had surprisingly little to do with one another.

Hii!! I’m a little in our system! I’m helping doing research because our therapist tried to tell us we weren’t a system and that we have never dissociated! I Got my name when little us was with our grandma and when the body was little she always called us pumpkin!!and I really liked that name!! So I used it now :D

We recently had an integration in out system. The first alters were called Octavia and Inger, their integrated alter didn't have a name, but knew it was Norwegian. (Inger was Norwegian) She decided on the name Aase, as she felt it to be the name that she most liked. I'm not too aware of how everyone got their names, but I hope that this story was enough.
Ive had an alter with a similar experience to naomi! When she first split, i couldnt talk with her immediately, but when i managed to, she was sure her name started with an A. The difference is, one day, my mother was just having some conversation about work or something of the sort, and she was talking on and on about an Amelia, and I had this "ah!" reaction when i heard the name. I cant really explain it. Its like that feeling you have when you're in class, and finally understand something that you've struggled with. I hope this makes sense

i've recently discovered our system and i'm trying to find out what to call the alter i grew up with and for now I've been referring to them as red because that's their favorite color and we interact through notes and they seem to be pretty neutral/positive to that name over any of my other suggestions so far. (it can be hard to tell with them though, but at least they haven't said it was a bad name this time 😅)
i recently had an alter i think may have showed up internally before, just never fronted until recent. for some reason i haven't communicated with them, just sorta watched what they did while they fronted and i somehow knew their name is mumble? it's so odd because both me and red were like "yeah, that's mumble" in our notes.
it's all so confusing and these videos help us understand what's happening. thank you so so much.

-We use Admin instead of Host. Headmates instead of alters. Just what feels best for us.
-I’m using a fake name: Amanda Elizabeth, because we don’t feel comfortable sharing what our actual full legal name is was and those names are similar to the type of very common, very feminine name we were given at birth.
So I’m the admin of our system and I’m transmasculine (also call myself a nonbinary guy). A lot of the headmates are kind of frozen versions of me. Not that they can’t grow and change (which you’ll see in a minute) but they are at a certain age and have always been that certain age and we expect they will always be that certain age.
I’ve only known about our system for like 6 weeks maybe at this point. I mean… I had suspicions long before that but I’m a therapist and I didn’t want to believe that I could be a therapist and not know I am in a dissociative system (Nevermind that we didn’t learn about OSDD in my program but that’s a different story for a different time).
Since I’ve learned about the system there’s been some discussions of names. We were given a very common feminine name at birth. And over the years have tried on different versions of it trying to figure out why it didn’t fit before any of us ever knew what nonbinary was. So like at one point used Amanda. At another point used Elizabeth. At another point Mandy. At another point Beth. You get the idea.
A lot of the alters had just kinda hung onto whatever name we were using at the time they came about. Our 4 year old was actually the first to change their name… we went by Amanda for the first several years of life… then a partner in college actually called us Mandy and they liked that better than Amanda so they’d decided they were Mandy. Well, since I’ve figured things out and we’ve been more communicative that headmate has actually been one of the first to change their name again… they didn’t realize they were allowed to use a more traditionally masculine name. And so the change was made to Andy.
Some of our other headmates have decided they just want to go by their age after we met a friend whose littles all respond to the same name and so are nicknamed their ages.
Some headmates are still making up their mind about names. Others are playing around with pronouns. Others both.
It’s been super healing, as a system where a lot of us, admin included, are a different gender than the body’s AGAB (our therapist thinks being trans is probably a factor in our system developing… especially when you consider that only one headmate is our AGAB and they’re very much a protector and very on board with the body transitioning… we live in a state that is definitely not very welcoming to trans people).
Just an interesting thing I thought I’d share plus we want other systems to know that if your members are trying out different names and pronouns and aren’t sure of their gender, that’s okay!
We have about 4 or 5 fictives, and a few of them were very adamant that their characters names were theirs, one took a similar but not the same name, and one just chose a completely different one. I think only 4 of the rest of us came with a name, and two of them were hosts that chose their names in childhood. The benefits of a gender crisis means we ended up suggesting quite a few names that alters either suggested in the first place or took later on lol 😅
We use stand in names until something else pops up
I have only had one that i asked her if she would consider changing her name becuase it triggered the rest of the system - she was okay with that. The other thing that i ask because i have found that with healing it often naturally happens - when 'unburdening a trauma' i will ask where there would like to be , present, inner world , or retire, what ever - - -i also ask if they want change to their name or anything else when they heal from their trauma. This is part of the IFS system of healing - integration is not the focus, but acceptance and releasing pain, and bringing the person forward with their skills to use for different things - thats another question to ask . I've had at least 6 change their name and 2 change gender identity
So idk which came first because this memory isn't on a timeline really but:-
When I was with a relative we were naming her satnav (I was young) and I named the satnav Jessica, Emily, Sally, Daniel and Sarah.
All alter names who are trauma holders. Cannot be a coincidence! Unsure which came first though - the alters or the memory 🤷♀️
Also in terms of names:
6 is called 6 because he had no name and was the 6th alter who I discussed names with
Sally changed her name to Grace bcz I offended her, then changed it back again 😅😬 She also (I think) pretended to be Jessy for a while
Roni named herself because she split off later on and without a name.
Sarah/Lacy goes by two names depending on how old she is and how she's feeling 🤷♀️
Ours tend to come with a name but the fictives dont like to keep the same name so they keep the first letter and then find a word that they relate to.
How can I find my alters and names?
Give them time - maybe keep a journal, and invite anyone to write in it if they want :)
Does it mean that my other personality is my alter ego? I am a timid person and a lot introverted, I feel nauseous if I’m exposed to crowded places cause I feel uncomfortable. Then sometimes I just find myself dancing to some music without getting nervous in front of many.. I don’t even break a sweat while doing it and I feel confident but I can’t seem to stop myself I feel like my body is in control when it does it. I feel like my other persona took over my control to my body.. Can you explain what is happening to me please? I’m very intrigued 😕
I have some alters who came with a name and some of them are just named after what they are or how they present themselves... Which is kinda stupid because .... When I talk about Kat(Cat) or Bitch its a bit awkward to call them that inf front of people and I kinda want her to get a real name... But I got other alters that I remember were there but they seriously go by no name and its weird to call them anything besides describtions
I knew my name had A R at the beginning and i ended up getting the Name Robin from the host

This is interesting. If you all get to choose your own name, or have a pre-set name, then how does a legal name work?
Say you're body is named "Silver"
Would that then be your legal name? Can you and your body have different names?
If you have an alter, say named "Potato Chip," does that count as a legal name, or do you still go by Silver? Or would you go by the host's alter name?
It really depends system to system! It would be really great to have system names legally recognized. (Personally, our plan is that when we change our name for non-system reasons, to sneak our system name in as a second middle name).
With close friends, we often just go by "Rings," and our individual names. Legally, systems usually go by their birth name, the host's name, or a collectively agreed upon 3rd option :) The skies the limit with systems!
Would it be weird if I said that for some I kind of found out through a dream? Well if was somewhat a dream (my dreams are very realistic so I can't really differentiate it if it was a dream or anything else).. That was also the first time I saw their physical form.. Like all of them (that I know of) apart from the two I'm already closest with and even then I only saw glances of them in my head when they were speaking to me or close by.. One of those two had a name because he was somewhat a character who I thought was a character as a kid that I liked to pretend to be.. The other one, we struggled for a bit because she had my nickname (I myself don't completely identify with the body's name so I have a few nicknames instead) and it was uncomfortable because it was still my name so we came up with something similar and there we go.. Another one is this.. Idk really he's just always at the back menacing and slightly sadistic and I used to be afraid of him but I THINK we get along? Personally idk, we know his name starts with a D and I heard it once but it instantly fled my memory so we are starting to call him Damien/Desmond because it sounds similar to it..
I don't think it's weird to find out any particular way! Dreams can be a bit tricky but as long as you talk to your alters and confirm that it is their name outside of a dream, you should be all good ❤️
All of my alters have chose their name but it took a little bit for them to actually tell me what their name was and a couple of them made me guess what their name was one of them was Jade she made me guess what her name is for almost 2 weeks before she finally revealed what her name was the only thing I knew bought her the time was that she was in fourth grade and I first so I found out about her popping up the way she got my attention was humming music as loud as she could to get me to respond to her and she has been an annoyance ever since were she pops up and does lotta different things that are just kind of outrageous and outlandish especially the fact that she lives on her own and she’s a runaway living on the streets she doesn’t trust at all except lately when I had another alter come forward that was threatening all of the altars including me and his name was Ed and he finally went out and I don’t feel him anymore now all the rest of the altars are all feeling safe but that’s how the naming process worked with mine I wish my phone would spell it out correctly to give an idea what my phone all truth like he is basically the altar ego that people used to refer to which is an aid I just wish it would come out correctly can I use the microphone on my phone because I can’t read or write it well and my entire system does not like a microphone on my phone I just wish my all I just wish my alters would come completely to the front because all they do is come up conscious enough or I can hear them and I can talk with them which also makes me second-guess do I really have dead
Hey rings! (Do you mind if we call you rings to address you all?) I was just curious about something. I’ve suspected I’ve had OSDD1-b for some time, and I was only just recently able to bring it up to a therapist. In short, I didn’t mention OSDD by name, so she gave me a book on the Internal Family System Model (IFS). It seems to propose the idea that all people have different ‘parts’ making up their personality, and those with DID or OSDD-1 just have parts that are not cohesive due to trauma. While I’ve read through and don’t identify with it, (and have mixed feelings about it in general,) I was wondering what your views on this method are? Given it’s quite odd relationship with DID and OSDD-1.

I’m actually not too well read on IFS and I feel like I should get to know it better. I have some experience with it because my therapist uses it loosely - but instead of “DID/OSDD are non cohesive parts” my therapist applies IFS to each alter, meaning each alter has parts of personality and each part between alters is different. (Eg, I have a protective part, an emotional part, a firefighter part, ect, and so does Mia. But Mia’s firefighter part and my firefighter part are different and react differently to situations.)

If a new alter doesn't have a name yet, we can write it using "?" and "!" before chosing the name. For example, now we have "???", "?????", "?!" and "???!" So funny:-)

The non-numerical name I had started out as something else from a book we read as a collective little kid, and then a movie came out with a main character named it and we had Nothing In Common, lol, so I passed it through our internal conlang and changed the pronunciation, (like Mark--> Marco in Spanish or Maru in Japanese, kinda) and now I like it better than the original.
They just won't let me say it -here- because it's UA-cam and UA-cam exists in Meatspace not our very broken attempt at "noveling" badly . So in here, I'm Number 14. Chatting on this channel to avoid dealing with 15 being Awful and fighting everyone else.

Well, how should I put this. There's only two who has named themselfs (with one of them being describing name and the other a name I had said years ago, but different punctuation). The rest have a describing name I came up with. And we've been going like this for years. If I ask if any has wanted to have a different name, all I've got has been "No no, this is fine!" :D
(Tho, I myself have been in a crisis, because I haven't associated myself with the body's name for a while now, but I have another one in my mind and I don't know what to do, because I don't understand what has happened. Other than a new alter came to be and she associates with the body and it's name. But I've been here for years! ._. I uh.. I dunno.)
If there’s a name you like better, it’s totally ok to start using that and figure out the “why” later! :)

I noticed we mostly end with the letter 'e'. Plus, I let them decide for their own what their name is, because i feel like i am 'branding' them if i give them a name
