Listening to the Word of God

- The apostle Paul admonished the Thessalonian believers to test what they heard against what they knew to be true about the Lord. Today, God’s Word is often distorted to support beliefs that contradict the essential truths of the Christian faith. In this context, Christians have a responsibility to listen very carefully whenever the Word of God is proclaimed. Alistair Begg provides five helpful guidelines to put to use whenever the Word of God is preached so that we can take seriously the responsibility to test everything.
Preached: 11/26/1995
Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:20-22
Way to call out the rude people on the back row. 😮😊
O how I love you brother Alistair you have a gift I grew up in a Baptist church, on the right side of Brother Bruce there was a short pew that no one sat in it held maybe 8, if you were acting up in church he would stop call you by name to come sit with him, it happened once to me when I was maybe 7 once I got home the rod was not spared so I never sat on that pew again.
Wild listening to this sermon years later. Thanks Alistair!
❤
Look at Alistair Begg from 1995! It's been a long time since then, and the blackness of his hair here is evidence of entropy in the world. Well he still looks great for 28 years later. More importantly he's preaching even better than then, which was already great. I love listening to Alistair speaking.
Thank you for your true LOVE of the word of God . There is NOTHING on earth that is as precious or powerful! God bless .
I would that there were a million more just like him. The church in America would be alive today.
🥰 Thx. Pastor Begg, Cheers & God bless !
from 95 - amazing (especially how young he looks)
I was just saying that too. What a great theologian in our times. He's definitely a good preacher and he's a really honest man.
Wow he was young there
28 years makes a big difference. My 65 year old body testifies to that!
@@FrankPCarpi same here😊 in my mind I'm still 37, my body laughs! Then I consider how much I learned since I was 37 and it's all good.
„But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into ALL truth“ (Jn 16:13). Is it not the same Holy Spirit enabling the saint to discern truth from error? Why should we then fear deception if we trust the word of God and it’s author?
Pastor Begg is quite the young man here.
VERY young. He sure loves the Lord. He’s spent his whole life loyal to Him and His word.
Can one DETOX from the end times...⁉️⁉️💀
Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
Final Instructions and Benediction
We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.
Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
Brothers, pray for us.
Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
I put you under oath before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
Hearing the word of God does not mean you hear men read a book!
