This shows the YinYang relationship of Mantis and Engi. Mantis are the best fighters and worst engineers, Engi are the best engineers but worst fighters. Yet, the Mantis will still be used for repairs and Engi as security guards, because both are the least likely to have designated stations.
I am heavy weapons guy and these are my weapons they weigh 150kg and fire $200 custom tooled cartridges at 10000 rpm it costs $400000 to fire this weapon for 12 seconds.
Not healing crew mid fight can be a game ender. Drop a point on engines to heal your mantis because he looked like one of the few capable of dealing with intruders. Also, use your cloak more. Lost some chip damage on phase two due to those drones which you could have avoided for the most part if you'd cloaked.
Vulcan is underrated. You can destroy any ship in the game with it with just 4 power. You can then spend all the power and scrap that would go to weapons into turtling (stealth, defense drones, shields, engines, hacking)
I would take two burst twos over a Vulcan any day, or a mini beam + dual laser + burst 2 will kill even the flagship Vulcan is usually overkill and too slow for four power
It's not underrated at all. The problem is the spooling time. In that time the Vulcan is really ready to go your flak 1 and heavy laser have entirely disabled or killed the enemy ship. You also can't really turtle on hard difficulty. You can do whatever you want on easy and most of what you want on normal but this just won't work on hard. They'll just kill you.
twin vulcans can do far more damage than the shields can stop, instead of targeting the shield system the engine or piloting would be a better target as most of your damage is lost by the evasion, also healing the crew is massive
I harshly underestimated the vanilla vulcan. I thought it was a barely usable weapon that only got good in multiverse, but ever did you prove me wrong. Amazing.
I mean he got super lucky nothing ever hit his weapons. Kinda the problem with all the 4 power weapons, they may be strong, but usually are slow and very vulnerable
Vulcans need a very specific setup in order to work properly. Fights in this game work off of momentum, the opening salvo is the most important. That’s why Zoltan Shields can be such a game changer. Vulcans are all about sacrificing initial momentum for a much higher maximum momentum, so once they’re going a battle will usually end quickly, but it gives your opponent a critical opening to damage you and your crew. You’re going to want either reloaders or pre-igniters to get you through the first salvo faster so that the Vulcans can wake up, and you rarely want two of them. I’d probably want an Ion II instead, even presuming that I never got a single other weapon in the run.
@@anabsentprofessor6120 Pre Ignitors are a gigantic help for Vulcans, that's the slowest charge of the lot. Same with Cloak. OP's used weapon hacking well for the same advantage.
Give me cloak hack with 8 weapon power, or hell even 4 to 6, and even mediocre weapons win comfortably. Vulcan is not a good weapon, although its sell price means I'm always happy to get one for free.
Personally, for Phase 1 final boss I find using level 1 hacking on the Cloaking to essentially disable it whenever it activates because they're on cooldown for the same amount of time to be much more effective than hacking the missiles
Level 3 hacking and level 1 cloaking can completely stunlock the missile system, which is the only real threat on phase one. Hacking missiles is much better for a weapon that takes this long to spool up.
@@RackaGack That’s true but that’s a lot of investment. I usually just target the missile room because once the guy manning it dies it can’t be repaired in the later phases
@@someone4650 on hard mode its more important to keep missiles down. On normal and easy the missiles are easier to deal with since they aren’t connected to the main body
Using an anti drone on phase 3 is pointless, there's nothing for it to shoot down. For phase 2 , you should power up a defence drone to shoot down the boarding drones. Once the flagship is out of drone parts, then power up the anti drone.
i also faced of with the flagship with 2 vulcans, but then at the last phase i got boarded to hell and couldnt fire both my guns fast enough and died ;(
How do the ppl get so much scrap?, i visit every beacon possible and never get enough to double shield + some reactor improved + anything for some reason (In the first 3 sectors, i mean)
Do you spend it on ship repairs? If you hoard scrap too much you can end up taking more damage than you would have if you spent it as soon as you got it. Its also possible you're spending too much on reactor. It's often best to over upgrade systems and do reactor last, since random events can increase reactor and you often don't need your systems fully powered. Plus the system upgrades allow you to take hits without things turning off
Great work! Could have temporarily swapped out some shields for your defense drone when that missile salvo happened that killed your engy, might have saved him. How soon did you find the two Vulcans? I've always found them a bit awkward to use, I usually end up selling them.
you should have hacked the shields on phase 2 and 3. bringing the shields down would have let you get at least 2 clean shots on the missle room. I respect that you killed the people manning the weapons stations, I always forget to do that I personally think that level 4 shields is kinda overkill, I always prefer high dodge. You can ofc power-level your engineer and pilot by fighting a weak enemy once your shields are level 2 or 3. Having a really high dodge would really help in phase 2 and 3 when there is just so much bullet spam / drone spam. Having 50% dodge is usually pretty attainable but sometimes i just max it out completely
Rip poor engi Also it's fairly obvious that you were panicking there at the end lul A handful of mistakes like not turning on the defence drone on phase 3 And not cloaking the Drone assault at phase 2
Bro, UPGRADE YOUR ENGINES. Evasion in so powerful, which is why you should have at least level 5 engines by sector 8, preferably more. like someone else said, use your cloaking more, if you hacked shields and then hit the missile room, you could have done this even faster. Edit: Also, you didn't cloak through the power surges? WHY. They deal way more damage than the missiles.
Wrong, you should not be prioritizing engines over almost any other system upgrade. you only need engines 4 for the entire game, his engines as they are are perfectly fine. once you have all of your upgrades you can afford, then maybe get engines 5-7. And cloaking the missiles for the power surge is almost always the better option, mainly because the lasers can at least hit your shields. The flagship missiles have a pretty high breach and fire chance, so that can catch you with your pants down for the power surge.
@@RackaGack I will say I felt this way too at first, but I have to side with emmet on this one; engines are quite overlooked. In fact, I am almost of the opinion that level four shields are likely worse than the equivalent scrap spent on evasion and cloaking (if you play your cloaking perfectly). 15% more evasion means that with three shields there is a +40% chance at least one of your opponent's four shots will miss (which given the three shields you have is how much they would need to damage you), and the longer cloaking means that if you have the terrible luck to be hit badly, you have much more time to recover. That said, as a beginner, four shields is much more comfortable and easy to play around, so if you prefer it, go ahead.
