Don't bother with expensive aftermarket exhausts.....use a 35 mm hole drill and drill out the ends of the mufflers and remove the baffles. Also remove the snorkel from the airbox. You get more power, better economy and sound and it costs nothing to do.
Great review, The "W" bikes are amazing. I ride mine all day long,(2000 w650) and often ride with a couple friends with Harleys. I get lots of at-a-boys from all kinds of people, including Harley riders because they think its an old triumph. I did bolt on aftermarket parts, (including some custom tingate swan clipons) and I live in Southern California.
You didn't mention how customizable it is. I see heaps of Ws where I live which are severely changed. you can chop the frame up, change tanks, carbs, seats, wheels, tyres, exhausts, suspension, handlebars, lights, fenders and make yourself anything from a street tracker to cafe-racer with a W. And you can increase the HP of the 650s with better carbs, but with the 800, I'm not sure because of the injection. I agree with the wind factor though. I've ridden my w650 over 50K and I think the pegs positioneed to be changed. I think the W's success owes a lot to the SR500/400s and the Estrella 250. These bikes established true street bike fashion and feel, particularly when you could custom them, without any pretensions about 'Harley Heaven' and all that kinda thing. (not dissing on Harleys, love that note)
Thanks for the review. I disagree strongly with the point about touring. See my blog Contemplative Motorcycling. I love the W for touring, it does it wonderfully.
Knee bend looks too radical for a classic.needs mid mounted pegs for a relaxed riding position for us oldies with knackered knees ,🙈🙈if it wasnt for that, id have one..shame..royal enfield it is then.😱
bikes are specially a men's passion...I'm not saying girls don't ride, I'm just saying it's a predominantly men's passion, so.....Why the hell did you say it's for women!!!!! you blew it!

I don't like the exhaust sound.
You can go 200 miles a day easily with this bike with a duffle on the back.
