I’m afraid you may not understand the situation. He’s not crying because he’s sad about what he got. Rather, he’s thankful to life for all that he got, because many others who have also struggled never made it here. It’s not about not being satisfied. He underwent massive trauma at that time. That’s why he broke down. You don’t forget trauma if it was really bad, even after a long time. It’s scary, and still hurts to talk about.
