      @@salt7582 I guess coin has two sides. Part of the insane performance is from linking the memory closely to the cpu. Interestingly upgrading from 8gb ram to 16gb ram nearly doubled the performance in not just in some programs, which wasn’t the case in intel macbook.

      You could use the regular kitchen oven.
      I fixed the “solder cracked” GTX970 back then with almost the same method.

    Wow, a detailed video on the heating and soldering. This is excellent content. That being said, anyone here should buy a pc with windows. Most of the time, Ram upgrades take 10 minutes. No soldering.

      Most PC laptops are doing the soldered RAM. Just like Apple. Thin sleeker lighter until the ram gets a bad solder point.

    Can you share also links to buy this chips? I don't think that anyone can send they're macbook to Malaysia to make this upgrade. If you are right, share the links of modules on aliexpress or everywhere we can find and trust it. I am able to solder it but I cannot find the modules / ram chips.

      john A. It’s outright thievery!! I bought my 2019 MacBook Pro 15” 16gb with the INTENTION to upgrade in the future. I had ZERO clue of this non upgradeable issue. My last MacBook was an early 2011 MacBook Pro 13” and I upgraded it 2 years ago, so I figured I would just upgrade this new one.

      Warren I had just bought the new 16 inch and did not know that it can’t be easily upgraded. Luckily they gave me a chance to return it after close to a month of having it. So it’s been returned and I’ll see if I’ll upgrade the Mac how I wanted. That ram upgrade cost is ridiculous

    There is an easier way. I can’t seem to find the video right now but using a heat gun you don’t have to put it in an oven, and it literally only took five minutes. The video is actually done in real time not in fast motion

I honestly think about transfering ram from a damaged motherboard to my macbook pro (early 2015), but I'm not sure yet if it's acutal doable

    Is 16GB the most the mobo can support? Could you have used some flux on the original RAM chips to aid in the solder melting? The reconfigured mobo, using the schematic for the original - what schematic did you use to modify the resistor/capacitor layout?

      Maybe? The processor supports more. I think that model was sold with more than 16GB. I replaced mine with 4 8GB IC's for 32GB.

    Apple’s strategy of soldering the ram is that when the ram fails, the user will be forced to buy a new MacBook. Such a waste of money. Thats why I don’t like MacBooks and I’ve heard that they also soldered the SSD so if you need more storage it’s either you buy an external drive or you buy a new laptop if you want all your data in the internal drive.

    is it just transfer the 2 resistors? the 1st resistor move to the top, and the second resistor move to the 1st resistor position?
