The secret exit is a major shortcut, but on top of being indicated to the player, it also doesn't let the dev skip playing their own level, because there are two checkpoints on the main route.
So if you consider a very linear level with no cheese and two checkpoints, the dev has to play from the beginning, again from the second third, and again from the last third, so six thirds of the level in total (with more weight on the harder end of the formula). The secret exit skips two thirds of this level, but only from the beginning, so that cuts the clear check down to four thirds of the level, which is still all of the level's content. And considering how much waiting is inherent to the gimmick, it is technically a dev route, but a smart and fair one.
Compare that to a toxic dev route where either the entire "intended" route is fake and unbeatable or they just didn't feel like playing their own garbage.

For this fun fact I will be telling you all a story of why you don't fuck with tigers. So for a little context, this story took place in Russia 1997, in the habitat of the incredibly rare amur/siberian tiger. A poacher called Vladimir Markov was hunting the trail of one of these tigers, not knowing what he was getting himself into. He eventually found the tiger, shot it (not enough to kill it), and stole some of it's prey. Clearly after this the tiger was PISSED so it then systematically tracked down Vladimirs cabin. It destroyed everything in the cabin then waited for him to return, and once he did, well, you can guess what happened next. This story proves that tigers can hold grudges, and not just short term either. This happened over 72 hours, meaning the tiger retained it's desire for revenge for *3 days!* It also waited by his cabin for 12 hours, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt it was out for his blood specifically. So moral of the story, don't be a poacher.
