    Fun Fact: In Asia, 22k and 24k are the only alloys considered actual gold. Over there gold jewelry is also an investment, instead of paying the huge premium for the marked up prices a lot of jewelers here in the West sell, 22k, 24k has better melt value over time.

    22k is perfectly fine, just don't go too small, and don't hang pendants. The gold does wear out faster over the years, but I still wear my dad's 50+ y/o 22k chain - not every day, but every week maybe, it's still in solid shape. People get them either too delicate because of the price, or they hand stuff from it and stress it out.

    • @MagicsJohnson
      @MagicsJohnson 2 роки тому

      I’ve never owned a 22kt chain but I’m planning to get a 2.5mm franco 20” (25.3g) and eventually a 4mm rope 18” (probably around 31.5g). I have a pendant that’s 4.5g and another that I can’t imagine will be over 6g. Do you think those pendants can stretch out the chain over years even though they’re less than 25% of the weight?
      I don’t plan on wearing both chains everyday, but I do plan on wearing the rope with my pendant 24/7 as I am currently with my 18kt rope.

    • @aintnomeaning
      @aintnomeaning 2 роки тому +1

      @@glennbrathwaite1951 I really would not recommend it, the 22k scratches very easy as the bail slides along the chain. You can get 18k chains that look really nice and yellow. It could work maybe if the bail was 'locked' so the chain doesn't slide, but afaik that's going to require custom, those kinds of bails are usually designed into the necklace, at least from what I've seen.

    • @aintnomeaning
      @aintnomeaning 2 роки тому +1

      @@glennbrathwaite1951 yeah the metal wears itself on points of contact. Even 14k does this, my dad's figaro bracelet he wore it every day for 40years and the contact points have become somewhat worn. Eventually with enough time and wear you would have to add back material, or scrap the piece. 22k happens much faster than 14k, ofc the thicker the material the longer time span.

    10kt, 14kt, 18kt, 22kt.. Doesn't really matter if it's jewelry.
    Not really a investment, unless it's gold bullion. Talking melt value instead of selling a gold chain for being a chain (AKA piece of jewelry that has craftmanship into and a premium) and instead to a PAWN or cash for gold store which imo is always a bad option.
    At least with silver chains you don't have to worry about most of the chain not being what you paid it to be and that most of the chain is silver.
