Not enough people react to KIX, one of the more underrated bands around. I grew up in Maryland and guys were legends in that area. They still do shows and they're as good as ever in their 60s. Quite a few of them are teachers at the Maryland School Of Music.
We used to live a couple blocks from Steve Whiteman. My wife, kids and I would go on family walks and pass him on his walk. He'd always take a second to say "hi" to the kids. Helluva nice guy. Fantastically underrated band.
This was one of those bands for various reasons I never got to see but always wanted to. So when I heard about the final show I knew I had to go. So I made the drive from Wisconsin. It was absolutely special. I got to experience this band with their most devoted fans in their hometown going out in style and on top. An experience I'll never forget.
Best stage show I've ever seen! These guys were so much fun in concert, and sounded like their albums. The video for their song "Body Talk" was in rotation on MTV in 1983, and probably influenced a few Glam Metal bands. The lead singer and bassist did have a collision in the "Cold Blood" video, because they lost track of each other, and you can see a little blood running down Steve Whiteman's face toward the end of the video. "Walkin' Away" off their "Midnight Dynamite" album is one of my favorite songs. Steve Whiteman just puts everything into his performances, and it makes "Walkin' Away" especially heartbreaking live. Definitely check out more of their stuff! 💖🤘
Another Baltimore person here....just saw them this past Sunday at the M3 Festival here in Maryland where they announced that they are calling it a career. September 17th at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland is their last performance. See them now!
I’m an Aussie, never heard of this band but am a girl of the 80’s who still has a thing for a guy with long hair. Some guys looked gorgeous with long hair and it was fun music to get into. Ps,saw Marty Friedman last week and he still has beautiful hair!!
KIX was formed in 1976. After changing their name a few times The settled on KIX. IMHO KIX was never "Hair Metal". Just good ole rock n roll. Maybe a slight touch of glam with some serious blues influences. And they always put on a very good show. They would pack Hammerjacks to overflow levels. There were 14 bars and 28 bartenders at this place. The largest club east of the Mississippi. They filmed a video for the Album title song "Blow My Fuse" at Hammerjacks and a few other tawdry places in The red light district. They could put a couple thousand people inside during KIX shows. Fire Marshall came one night during a Deep Purple show and pretty much shook his head knowing there was no way they were going to be able to get people to leave if they wanted to be able to go home that night. I've had the pleasure of knowing these guys since the early 80's. I've been proud to be their opening act on quite a few occasions. Always classy dudes. While no opening act gets the full sound and lights. {sad to say} But KIX gave us much more of both than many other bands. Their library of songs has some serious kick ass numbers. I hope you guys dive in for the ride. Sadly they played their last show on Sep 18, 2023. Several members have had some serious health issues lately. Steve's {Singer} wife is retiring for her job and Steve wants to be able to spend more time with her. That said some of the other members will still be working. Just not as KIX You can seek out their final show on youtube.
Glad you're seeing KIX, but now you need to see how crazy the 80's really were. Check out Kix "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah". (Studio version, because there are so many live variants, you need the original). That was Saturday nights in High School for me. Hammerjacks was the place.
So many criminally underrated bands from that era,. Kix is near the top of the list, albeit, with a bit of commercial "success". Another band that was even less successful, but, stupidly good were Dirty Looks (Rock out in Hell Henrik....where the GOOD parties are at).
Other Kix songs to react to: Yeah, Yeah, Yeah; Blow My Fuse; No Ring Around Rosie; Sex; For Shame; Don't Close Your Eyes and my personal favorite - Walking Away.
Being from Maryland I've been a Kix fan since the 80's. My old band was lucky enough to open for the lead singer Steve Whiteman's solo band funny money. Cool guy, great band, NOT hair metal.
the 80s was definitely the best time to be alive in America , specially for the music , but for so much more , the cars , the clothes , the food , the simple fun , and we had a president that knew how to deal with russia and took care of America
two things i love about hard rock/heavy metal: 1) the harmony, assuming we aren't talking about scream-o bands which are about as dumb as banging on pots and pans and throwing tin cans against the wall and calling it music, and 2) the energy/rebellious attitude. and these are both timeless! why must the 80s sound be relegated to the 80s? classical music is forever, and so is hard rock/metal imo.
This may be the best hair metal song from the era. Other greats you can't miss...L.A. Guns - Never Enough, Dangerous Toys - Scared, Banshee - Shoot Down the Night, Winger - Seventeen, Firehouse - Reach for the Sky.
I so wish I could click on a reaction video, they say the name of the video, then crank it, without a bunch of gobbledygook. Thanks though for not calling it glam metal

Kix singer Steve Whiteman was a vocal coach for Lizzy Hale of Halestorm.

YEAH YEAH YEAH!!
The band retired Sep 18, 2023. But yeah. They always rocked it

KIX's "Midnight Dynamite" album is a top 10 best heavy metal album.
Love this band. You are the first reaction to Kix I have seen.
Need to do more of them & Don't Close Your Eyes by Kix.
Thank you.
Saw them play back in early 90's. The singer crowd-surfed in a chair! Great time.
Kix, Crack the Sky & Face Dancer...all bands from the East coast that should have been bigger than they were....They all rock!!!
"Red Shoes" is etched in my brain. So great, and seemingly lost. And yes, I wish we could find a way to turn every one on to Crack The Sky. So great.
OMG yes,.... such a talented band all the way around!! I absolutely love the song "Ice".....
That's actually Donnie Purnell's signature move by throwing his bass onto his back.

This song is a real ear worm. Catchy as heck
This is exactly the show you saw live! Fact. Was watching them in clubs before they were signed. Were called the Shooze back then in 1978.
Always loved Kix
Love me some Kix! Great song, great band! Take a listen to Enuff’Z’Nuff “New Thing” You’ll love it!
I don't if I'd consider them 'glam' they were straight up rock and roll. They had more in common with AC/DC or early Aerosmith.

One of the Last of the True Great groups of the 80s. EIGHTIES.... Of course UNDERATED.....Guns n roses who....?

Next one cold shower
i still get triggered by the "hair metal" reference...
Please stop pausing during guitar solos!!!
KIX is NOT hair metal
One of the best live bands you can see. Too bad Poison stole their stage show. Check out their songs , The Itch ,Blow My Fuse and Bump the LaLa
