Hey, we're living in the same neighborhood! I've been moved here for 4-5 years and gotta say this is one of the best living areas in Bangkok. Easy transportation, many choices of food to pick from cheap to expensive. I love it here 🙂
Absolutely, do not rent old style apartment! Choose wisely condo & rent direct to unit's owner or condo sales office only. Keep stay close to Sukhumvit rd., even far from CBD (you'll be fine) Useful video, nice job bro.

I was looking at Chiang Mai, but you really got me interested in Bangkok I didn’t realize I could afford it. Thanks I’m gonna subscribe and get back into your video. Keep up the good work.
I wouldn't recommend Chiang Mai in the winter as the air pollution at that time is some of the worst in the world! Too much crop burning. Bangkok is quite inexpensive, and if you plan to travel in the region it is definitely the best travel hub. Just got back from Vietnam...very beautiful as well!
@@thebangkokguide thank you Cal for the heads up on the crop burning. Yes, I was glad some mentioned it in other videos, sounds like it starts late February. Yes Vietnam looks beautiful. Also 👍👍
I am so happy that I came across your video. My partner and I are considering moving to Thailand in at least a year (after saving up some money and taking care of loose ends). I was wondering if there was a site or central location to meet up with other Expats/Digital Nomads to help with the easing into the Thai Culture? Something to help with navigating, proper set up with basic needs and any other possible hurdles we may cross? Great video btw. Already subscribed to your channel and hope that in the near future to meet up.
For sure. There are lots of co-working spaces here, but it isn’t really necessary in my opinion. If you live in a more expat oriented area, all you need to do is go out and talk to people a bit and you’ll meet lots of helpful people. It’s a fairly good community!
For a survival budget, one need to add cost for a health insurance, visa , entertainment (say beer, hobbies) and travel which will double the monthly overall.
Yes true. This video was just intended to show the lowest budget somebody could survive on (housing, food, transport and shelter)... I would also recommend double for a better quality of life.
You can not make a prediction about the cost of living because it's totally different between people in terms of their income. I live in Thailand now for 17 years and know what I'm talking about.
Hi Cal, you said you’ve been living in Bangkok for roughly 6 to 7 years, in your opinion, how much has rent increased since you’ve moved there, I won’t be moving there until probably 2027 and I’m just trying to gauge my monthly rent in 2027. I need a nice size studio or 1 bedroom, my rent CAN NOT exceed $275USD

It really depends what you are interested in. For newcomers, the Sukhumvit area around Asok is often popular... has pretty much everything and it's pretty foreigner friendly.
Banks here are fun. Walk into different branches, especially Bangkok Bank, and just ask them if you can. The mall ones won’t do it, and a few in Pattaya will. I’ll cover this in some detail in an upcoming video about visas 😊
Yeah, check the website Renthub as they often have short term rentals. You can also find them on Facebook marketplace - www.renthub.in.th/en/apartment/bangkok
Does the building you're in have places that are larger? My hubby doesn't want to go below 100sq meters, which is a tough find for being close to the BTS or MRT without major coin.
I think the 2 bedrooms are still below 100sqm...but you can find plenty of condos in that size range! Checkout my video on looking for condos as you might find it helpful!
is it best to walk around the neighnorhood and just walk into an apartment building and ask if there's any availability there or work with an agent or look in Facebook market place. I'll be arriving in Bangkok on early December. I'd like to start with a 6 months lease.
Personally I like to walk around and check at the juristic office. Checkout my video about how to find condos as it covers a lot of tips that you should find helpful!
No, just check to make sure that you are paying electric directly to the Metropolitan Electric Authority, and water to the juristic. Rarely, older apartment style buildings charge separate rates and they can be much higher!
Generally it is quite easy to find affordable condos that are within walking distance to malls and transportation. It depends which area of the city you prefer. I find the Rama 9 area great for this combination. But you can generally find the same setup in most areas that are outside the immediate center of the city. I will be doing a video on how to find, negotiate and sign leases for condos very soon. I will make sure to cover this question 😊
Please, how easy is it to get work if you don't speak Thai? Though, I know of a Swedish family who owns the Swedish restaurant in BKK and several other places in Thailand
I recommend Inchi steaks that are sold at Big C. If I recall correctly it’s 160 baht for 2 medallion steaks (200 grams) and the quality is pretty good. Similar price for decent ground beef. Overall, Thailand isn’t a big beef eating country though. Pork and chicken definitely are the go to meats here.
I’m on a work visa, but you can live here on several visas. I will make a video about the visa options. I normally do one year leases as you get the best value. I’m in the process of doing a video about finding condos here which should be up in a day or so. It covers quite a lot that you might find helpful
Love to see many farang move to live here but now I think too many of western people live in Thailand. I really hope our culture will not slight change. Sorry to complain.
Yes I understand your concern. People in my country also have similar thinking about people moving there sometimes. It’s important to understand and respect the culture ☺️
$600 a month??? not bad at all, if you have $1000 coming in every month, you are going to be covered without a problem, as far as medical insurance, and visa fees, and you are good to go!!
@@thebangkokguide But others are saying otherwise, if it not $1,500 a month, you would be suffering in that kingdom, and you are better off, staying in your homecountry✈️

$300 for that apartment? You had amazing views there. There is a ton of videos on living on $1000 a month. But when I retire, I'll have over $5000 a month. Can't find any videos living on that.
It is surprisingly affordable to find nice places but there are plenty of more expensive condos as well. My previous condo was a 2 bedroom and 3 bathroom place at Asok for about $950. Downsized a little. Another friend of mine has a very modern 2 bedroom condo, and it’s almost $2000, and another has a very large 4 bedroom condo for about the same. On $5000, you will have lots of options and it will depend on your lifestyle preferences. I checked on true, ais, what is the difference in 5g internet and unlimited wifi? They are the same thing no? Mind sharing the link to the correct AIS plan you have?
To be honest, I barely notice a difference between the speeds except for uploading. The unlimited usually refers to a specific speed before it drops down to a lower tier, but the lower tier is actually really fast too. I don’t notice much difference except with uploading 4k which is a bit slower. I’ll find the name of the plan I have and get back to you! 😊
@@thebangkokguide Remind me that TRUE ISP keep trying to offer extremely cheap monthly additional fee to me, but I keep refuse them because the lower tier just already good enough lol. It does not like I use mobile phone for download gigantic file or anything so it pretty much useless for me.
The food budget is unreasonable. I'll typically go out with a friend and we get 3 dishes 'meals' and share them, 50 baht x3, rice is 20 baht x2, and water is 20 baht x2 so 230 Baht/2 and you haven't left a tip. You'll do that 3 times a day if you add snacks and 4 times a day without snacking. Thai food is like Chinese food, wait 20 minutes and you'll be hungry again. Every Thai is constantly eating and you will be too.
I think food costs really depend on each individual and their lifestyle preferences. For me, I often stick to fairly strict diets while I focus on fitness and work. Actually at times it was even less as I also do fasting. So this budget was reasonable for me. You can easily spend more, but if we are talking about a survival budget then this is definitely enough. Yes normally there is an English lease but the official lease is the Thai version. I recommend that you watch my recent video about finding a condo in Bangkok. I will cover leases in part 2 ☺️
Yeah this is intended as a barebones budget video, mostly intended to highlight how affordable a basic budget is. Part 2 will be a recommended minimum budget video. Cheers
@@marcioborgesreis9066 this is based on actually living on this budget at one point in time while just working on a project. It’s definitely doable as a basic budget, and actually it’s still quite a nice quality of life. The earlier commenter is confusing a ‘basic budget’ with a ‘recommended budget’. I will cover my recommended budget in a video soon 😊
Do they use US$ in Thailand? Or is it Thai Bath which is the legal currency... Totally useless video and not helpful at all unless you are an american since US$ fluctuate uneven with both THB and my currency NOK over time.
$1USD = 34THB = 10NOK - the fluctuation is generally about 5% but there have been swings by about 10% with all the pandemic mayhem in the past couple of years. If you factor in the fluctuations, +-10% or about $60 or (600NOK) in your case. It’s a quick google search to convert to any currency. The video is meant to give an approximate cost and USD is the most common global currency to give an understanding of value to people from any country.
I know that. But why not copy the popular channels and add the price in both THB and US$? Then the video would be useful on the fly without all the calculations back and forth...@@thebangkokguide

You lost me when you’re saying ‘oh it’s cheap ‘ but you don’t mention the actual price...
Which topic was that? Sorry, thought I broke down all the prices in the video!
$600 is a joke. you need a visa, health insurance, an emergency fund. need double or even $1500 a month for a decent life.
Yeah this is intended as a barebones budget video, mostly intended to highlight how affordable a basic budget is. Part 2 will be a recommended minimum budget video. Cheers
So you saying he's lying and Bangkok is expensive has any western country ???
@@marcioborgesreis9066 cheap by American standards. Don't see how any westerner could live on less than $1200 a month.
I have seen fan rooms for US$80. in Thailand. This is how most Thais live.
Do you get a double double 😂
It’s a solid drink 😂

Between 50 and 100 baht, or 2 and 3 USD! Useful to know!
