This is not related to this video but I need some advice. I’m want a career in stage/production management. I have three professional SM jobs under my belt and half way to a bachelors in theatre. I’m debating wether or not to finish school to save money and continue to try and find more professional work. I’ve recently applied to a few SM jobs on a cruise ship, Im not quite qualified but I applied anyway, since I do have some school and experience professionally. What is the outlook on SMs who don’t finish their degree?

If you’re already working as a professional stage manager, you have your answer about whether or not you “need” your degree to be a stage manager! You can totally work your way up with just on the job experience. That said, I would personally go ahead and finish the degree, solely because transferring credits can be a pain, and if you want to go to grad school for anything (not just theatre) you DO need a degree for that. But that’s definitely a personal choice, I don’t think there’s a “right” or “wrong” answer.

@@HalfHourCall it’s not consistent work, and I’ve been working my day job non stop and they don’t give me much flexibility to take theatre jobs. So I thought school might be a better route but I also don’t want the debt.
