This is the precise recipe I used in the 1970s for making beads of all sizes, shapes, and colors. I still have lots of them stashed away, and after 44 years they are still hard as rock and smell about the same as they did when fresh. I didn't bake them; just let them air dry. (I lived in a little Colorado mountain cabin with a wood cook stove, and suspended an old screen door over the stove to catch the heat during the cold months. In summer the beads just dried without the extra heat. Dry air is what you want.) I made little pendants with cloves and sesame seeds pressed into them (the clove smell is a bit faint now!) and always made the holes while they were still wet. In my experience, there was no shrinkage or expansion, so the holes remained the same as the beads dried out. I would add food coloring, paint, or glue to get various textures and colors. The glue gives the clay a glossy quality. Nowadays this kind of clay is called "cold porcelain," and there are myriad tutorials on UA-cam involving many different recipes. I'm eager to mix up a batch and make some ornaments, which I never thought of doing. Thanks for the idea! P.S. Definitely try some food coloring along with your essential oils!
I made this 20 something years ago, every year when I was homeschooling my children. They always chose to a add 1/4 cup (more or less) cinnamon to it and we added clove, cinnamon and nutmeg essential oils. This was sweet to watch, brought back fond memories!
After a few days off school with horrible coughs, my children and I have just made these. We spent a very happy and calm half hour cutting out Christmas shapes with our cookie cutters. Thank you for a peaceful half hour, and some lovely Christmas memories x
Absolutely adorable! You could also do eggs for Easter with spring scents. Red, white & blue with summer scents for summer and some leaves for fall with fall scents! ❤️🧡💙💛🤎
Oh Thanks! We are a family of 5 living in India (from Australia)......we now have a project to do for Christmas 🎄, as we can’t by decorations like at home!
These look like fun. Sometimes it is easier to cut out all of your shapes, and then carefully remove the extra “dough” from around them rather than try to remove each star. If you do this with the parchment already on your baking sheet, they are ready to put in the oven.
I've been following the Farmhouse on Boone for awhile now, and just this week I came across Our Oily House. Immediately, I thought gee... I wonder if these two know each other. lol Laura reminded me so much of you, Lisa. I really enjoy both of your channels. Super job ladies. Loving all your ideas on essential oils and especially the decorating!!
Have you made a clay with ground cinnamon powder for Christmas ornaments? They smell wonderful. I suppose if the smell fades, you could refresh it with cinnamon oil.
Any oil suggestions for helping remove / reduce the smell of burning trees and burning buildings? My mother-in-law escaped from the Paradise, Ca area wildfire safely, but her car reeks of smoke. I don't think she would like to smell Christmas trees. ..
Thanks Lisa for the video, I really enjoyed it. I Love this home & your decor, I can't imagine your new farmhouse being any prettier. You said you had more land. Is the home any larger than your present home and will you & hubby have to do a lot of renovating? Happy Thanksgiving to you & your family.
I dont know what shes talking about, you look good to me. That brown jacket makes me think you're leaving to go outside every time you wear it in a video.
i would definitely do some research as to what oils could mess with dogs, but i don't believe any of the oils i used for these ornaments are dangerous for dogs!

Mmmm. Sounds like it smells amazing!
I did the same with cinnamon and applesauce as my liquid
Did you add your cinnamon and essential oils during the cooking process? Also, did you let them air dry or oven bake them?

My kids make these every year and give them as gifts. We poke a hole with a straw before we bake them so we can thread them on twine to hang
Ooooohhh!! I want to make one to hang in my car!!
Oh! What a good idea :)
Great little gifts.

First 😍thanks for this great idea🙋♀️
Thank you :)
LOVELY DIY......TFS
How fun! To paint these, do you just use craft paint or acrylic or does it matter?
I wouldn't think it would matter.
Hello Lisa & Laura, My daughter and I will be making this dough...Looks so amazing !! I would like to know what brand of EO you like using?
We use doTERRA. You can get the free class here: bit.ly/farmhouseoils
My kids are 44, 40 and 29. I made this same recipe a hundred times with them and then grandkids. What goes around comes around.

Yes! Our new farmhouse is much larger and has a lot more acreage. We will definitely be renovating it :)
Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.
Thx for sharing. But how long should we bake n what's the degree?
Excellent idea!!! 😘👍🏻
Thank you :)
Did you mention oven heat temp and time approx? I missed it!!
Bake at 175 degrees for about an hour.
Lisa, do you think it would work to put cloves into the dough before baking?
Tiny Cooking with Kim Westmoreland I love this idea!
I would think so :)
Hello lisa! Awesome video! Followed laura already! I just want to ask if you are using water based essential oil?
Are they fragile? They look like they can break easily. Can these be air dried instead of cooking in the oven?
Could you add some glitter to the dough?
Yes!
I dont know what shes talking about, you look good to me. That brown jacket makes me think you're leaving to go outside every time you wear it in a video.
I love my cedar wood.
Can you say if any of these oils are dangerous to dogs smelling? Essential oils don’t smell to me after an hour. Do you find that?
i would definitely do some research as to what oils could mess with dogs, but i don't believe any of the oils i used for these ornaments are dangerous for dogs!
What temp and how long? Did I miss that part??
Brandi Sikora always check the description box ;)
It is in the description box :)
What brand of essential oils do you use?
DoTERRA
I use DoTerra :)
Lisa get some rest! Take care of yourself! With no bad intentions I've got to say you look like you need it.
Aw! Thank you for caring :) That is so sweet.
We are currently selling our house and it certainly is a little stressful :)
@@FarmhouseonBoone Good luck on the sale of your home, can't wait to see your new home. Praying all goes well for you & your family.
