- Johannes Vermeer: A collection of 41 paintings (HD)
Description: "Johannes was a Dutch painter who specialized in domestic interior scenes of middle-class life. Vermeer was a moderately successful provincial genre painter in his lifetime. He evidently was not wealthy, leaving his wife and children in debt at his death, perhaps because he produced relatively few paintings.
Vermeer worked slowly and with great care, and frequently used very expensive pigments. He is particularly renowned for his masterly treatment and use of light in his work.
Vermeer painted mostly domestic interior scenes. "Almost all his paintings are apparently set in two smallish rooms in his house in Delft; they show the same furniture and decorations in various arrangements and they often portray the same people, mostly women."
He was recognized during his lifetime in Delft and The Hague, but his modest celebrity gave way to obscurity after his death. He was barely mentioned in Arnold Houbraken's major source book on 17th-century Dutch painting (Grand Theatre of Dutch Painters and Women Artists), and was thus omitted from subsequent surveys of Dutch art for nearly two centuries. In the 19th century, Vermeer was rediscovered by Gustav Friedrich Waagen and Théophile Thoré-Bürger, who published an essay attributing 66 pictures to him, although only 34 paintings are universally attributed to him today. Since that time, Vermeer's reputation has grown, and he is now acknowledged as one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age."

Thank you so much for your support!
It's crazy that we can see within 3:37 minutes paintings it took that man about 23 years to paint altogether. This is real privilege - most of us, 60 years back, would not have been able to see all the originals somewhere and not all of us would have bought or borrowed an art book containing prints of the paintings!
Right I can only see this paintings in you tube,I value you tube to see paintings of the great masters.GOD BLESS
Absolutely magnificent.
My ultimate favorite Artist.
very nice sequence of paintings, and musical accompaniment
It's always nice to find a few previously unknown paintings of a great master, right? So I got really excited to see this promising title of 41 Vermeers. But here's the problem... The first one and the last 3 paintings are by Han van Meegeren. Saint Praxedis is of disputed attribution for the last 8-10 years, and Girl with a Flute is on the same list for the last 3-4 years. But even counting those two canvases Vermeer's entire known oeuvre consists of 36 paintings. So even with the 4 by van Meegeren it comes to 40. Great job.
Thank you
33 obras, no más, lo consagraron como un gran plntor. Digno de admirar.
Such brilliance, my goodness what an amazing artist he was.
Inderdaad, dat is zeker waar...

Watch documentary..."tims vermeer"
I have "The Girl in the Red Hat" hanging in my living room. It brings joy to me and my guests.......
Absolutely wonderful magnificent, ahh these artists were amazing
I'm obsessed! "Girl with the Pearl" !!! 😍
Istenem a rég múltból is milyen maradandó emlékek maradtak ránk. Nagyon szépek a festmények. Jó hogy erre is figyelmeztetnek benünket.
Im glad he used this mirror technique to paint (even if it diminishes his artist cred) because its like having film footage of the distant past...so immediate and sharp .like we are right there
great!!
Perfect
I have Vermeer painting but not sure is real or not
Nice presentation, but am wondering how you arrived at 41 Vermeer paintings. It is my understanding there are only 36 Vermeer paintings out there in the World.
yes, they included here falsifications by van meegeren
Art Media Journal true I heard that on npr
@@andre_cordeiro Wow they shouldve been labeled
Lol
Maravilloso💓
The first painting and the last three are not by Vermeer but by the Dutch forger Van Meegeren in the early 20th Century.
Reading "The Forgers Spell" right now. How anybody could mistake van Meegeren's work for a real Vermeer is simply beyond me.
3:26 Late Vermeer! ; )
aye, looks like a Diego Rivera painting of tired supplicants .
@@claygreen4723 "How anybody could mistake van Meegeren's work for a real Vermeer is simply beyond me."
The last 3 paintings in this clip are van Meegeren's too, but he never sold them and they were found in his studio after he was caught. The first one here as well as his other famous forgeries were painted in supposedly early-vermeer style of which the only known sample is Christ in the House of Martha and Mary. So there was not much to compare with. And he was a good copyist and a good painter in his own right. No wonder the public took the bait.
@@ronstern1951 he was a great student of human nature and simply gave them what they thought should be there. Sometimes the Emperor is wearing clothes and sometimes he's not.
I know we can easily look it up, but isnt it somewhat of an obvious omission not to give the dates of when he was born and died and the general decades he produced his masterpieces. Sorry to gripe. Perhaps it's petty of me to do so considering all the hours of pleasure this wonderful channel has brought me.
he like paints light…. sick talent 🤗🤗🤗
kinda. He used a camera obscura to paint his works. The majority of his work is in a room next to a window. He needed all the light he could get to flood his camera obscura.
Bellísimo
Any ideas on why so many of his paintings are set in a room with the subject looking out a window ?
No TV.
The one at 1:31, I had on the wall as a teenager. I also had a big book about his paintings.
That's wonderful. I have the one at 1:56 on my wall. I painted it myself. I really love Vermeer's work
@@jellybeanchris You did??
You must be very talented. It's certainly not an easy one to copy.
🎨
The paintings that show Vermeer's compositional ability, really stand out. I am not convinced that all these paintings are by Vermeer. But, then, he appears to actually been a picture dealer, rather than an artist, and maybe the less impressive pictures were done when he was not really concentrating.
Could you please list the musical artists accompanying the slideshows? Thanks!
Beautiful. So enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing.
"A prophet is without honor in his hometown" (Mark. ch. 6). This is very true for such masters as Vermeer and van Gogh. Poor Vermeer was never recognized during his life, neither van Gogh. False artdealers even changed his signatures to Rembrandt so that they would sell!! As for van Gogh, we all know his tragic story... This shows that a true artist paints because he HAS TO, an urge from within himself, not because of vain glory, vanity or deceit.
I thought he only made 35 masterpieces
The little master.
The painting with the letter reading girl has been restored in Germany showing a picture on the wall hidden for about 200 years and making clear what the letter is about.
What is the letter about?
♥️
Thank you for yr excellent videos. Could you put on the title of each painting? It wd make it so much easier to reference them for further study.
You're perfectly right! But, I don't have that much time to spend doing this with every new video. Although, by the beginning of this year I decided to try to do this, twice a month, videos that can be found only by becoming a patreon (more info: patreon.com/learnfrommasters).
@@LearnFromMasters you suck!
dude, this is cool
I enjoyed your video and was wondering about the piece of music you used. Can you tell me the name and composer of the piece, and if known, the name of the person/persons performing it, please?
Frmr Christian nocturne in e minor by chopin
Download Shazam! It’ll tell you any song just about. A 10 second clip should do.
The girl in the painting at 1:16 may be the same girl from the girl with the pearl earring?
The Letter Reader , was this, one of Vermeers works? I didn't notice it here?
Music: Chopin - Nocturne in E Minor
Thank you!
The first image entitled "The Washing of the Feet" was painted in 1943 by the famous forger Han van Meegeren.
I didn't know there were forgeries included here. But, when I looked at the first painting shown I thought those faces and really the whole painting looked bad, ugly in fact. Unlike so many other Vermeers which are so beautiful and the faces were stunning, but not in that picture.
I'm pretty sure I could forge better than him.
@@justinthyme5382 exactly. Like cmon... that looks NOTHING like a Vermeer
The first picture is so very obviously NOT Vermeer, though! And several others, too. They are crude compared to the lightness and delicateness that Vermeer has.
i think he used his fingers more than his pensils
Only 5 examples of paintings where light comes from the right of the picture. I only ever imagine Vermeer with light from a left hand window
I say the following knowing that this video was done long ago, but it still needs to be said. The push ins are too quick. The first shot of the painting should be held for a few seconds, then the push in but slower. The impact of the work would be greater.
I like the one of Scarlett Johansson.
1:54 ? ; )
Danke! Habe Link gesetzt. 365 Gemälde: Jan Vermeer van Delft
www.wgsebald.de/100/365gemaelde/V.html#vermeer
The first painting shown is a Han Van Meegeren fake, also only 36 now possibly 35 Vermeer's are known to exist. I enjoyed your presentation though.
GOUDEN EEUW
His favor of blue seems to make the people look alive, as it contrasts with the flush of their skin. It's as if they're actually breathing.
Who is here looking at these paintings because of the Netflix show about the robbery at the museum?
Five of these paintings do not belong or even attributed to Vermeer. There are only 34 paintings that are attributed to him including 3 that are still questionable.
make a better research
there are 4 paintings here known as falsifications since 47
which ones?
@@nicolasbascunan4013 The first one at least, is by the Dutch forger Van Meegeren.
3:26 Late Vermeer! LOL
Looking forward to your better researched video.
magnificent of course, though a few here are surely not by Vermeer
DUTCH MASTERWORKS
Too many fakes in this video. It's very distracting.
GEKOLONISEERD
Thank you
