Thanks for the great walkthrough. This looks simple enough to handle on my own. Eager for my replacements to arrive and put and end to the loud, irritating rattling.
Just did this for Dad's Legion y530. He's been having random, abrupt shutdowns. No warning, just POOF the computer is off. Ran the Lenovo Diagnostic software's processor test with the stress test option toggled on, expanded the details at the top and I could see that 2 of the cores on his CPU were consistently in the low to mid 90C temp range, all four together average 84C. googling, over 90C is bad. So I replaced the fans and redid the thermal paste, reran the test. All the cores are between mid 50'sand mid 60's Celsius now. HUGE difference!
Tim, You're a legend. I had the exact same problem with my CPU fan which got clogged with dust and the bearings gave out. I've watched this tutorial a few times, and my replacement fan has just arrived. I'm watching this one more time before commencing the replacement. I only ordered a replacement for the fan that was conking out, But this video has given me the confidance to do a little more tinkering. My Legion5 is my first high performance laptop and I want to learn how to do all the maintainance, So I don't have problems like this again.
Just completed the repair, Had to open her up again after finding two screws left over. I hope I didnt mess up the thermal paste, I didn't have alcohol so I gently scraped off the paste with a plastic tool, gently sucking it up with a small vacuumed, Then applied a small blob which I gently smoothed across the units. Once again, Thanks for making this kind of thing accessable for everyone.
1. I understand that Lenovo may have used different manufacturers for the fans. Do they all fit, or do I need an exact match for the specific mfr/part? 2. How critical is cleaning the old thermal paste and adding fresh? 3. Does the battery have to be removed? Thanks.
@@saimittapalli9668 Sort of. I bought fans after being told that it didn’t matter what brand/mfr they were. I had a friend helping with the replacement, and he said I didn’t need to remove the battery first, so I didn’t, and it was fine. I decided to clean and replace the thermal paste too because it is very inexpensive, and my friend recommended it. Everything is working great now. Good luck!
Hey, did you figure out if you have to absolutely remove the battery? Can you just not disable it in the BIOS beforehand? I'm planning on replacing a fan, but I'm scared of messing something up so I would like to the touch the least I possibly can lol
Yeah my fans have been screwed up recently, took it to get repaired and they wanted my password to get in, which I really wasn’t crazy about. They said it was to make sure everything was working ok, but I didn’t see how that was a fan problem. Ntm it had gotten to the point where it made that sound just from turning it on which I told them
im working in construction sit and i hade a lot of problem cause of dust , is that some way to put some filtration clothes in the intake of laptop fan louvers ?
What was different? I have a fan that sounds like it's giving out, and I am planning on doing the repair myself when I get the replacement parts I ordered.
Mr. Tim, I wish you were in the city of Seattle. I have to take my Lenovo Legion laptop to a shop to have the very same task performed as what you did here in this video. I absolutely see the significance of replacing both fans with fresh new ones even though one fan might be the only culprit. I'm just hoping that my neighborhood shop will be able to get the fans kit in a timely manner shipped from China. I'd hate to have to wait a really long time for such a shipment. (The guy that works at the neighborhood shop claims that he can only order the kit from China and not the United States.)
just replaced mine on the 17 inch model, the only difference as far as I can tell is that you don't need to remove the heatsink in the 17 inch model (you will need to wiggle them a bit and be careful about it)
@@TimsComputerRepair Yeah, thanks. I've done everything exactly like you did and my device is fine. Everything is working, ventilators are nicely quiet now so yeah. Great tutorial - step by step. THANKS ;)
Good day sir I have the same problem regarding my laptop. My GPU fan is noisy and loose but the other one is in good condition. Can I just replace one or should I replace them both?
i know this is a couple months late but id suggest replacing both fans. You dont have to but having both fans fresh and new will most likely save you th ahssle of swapping out the other one before the new one goes out.
Man, one of my lenovo legion 7 fans no work no more. I was wondering why everything got capped at 60fps, looked at temps, cpu tems are insanely high. Found out that there is no airflow where one of the fans are
After upgrading RAM on my lenovo and gently vacuuming the fans for dust there is now a new high pitched sound coming from it.. Maybe i will replace fans
How much would something like this cost to get 1 fan repaired very very poor person here I have a newer version and am to incompetent to replace them its all I got
Hi I have somewhat of a dumb question/s I have a: Y50-70 Laptop (Lenovo) - Type 80EJ (laptop is old and not supported by lenovo anymore and warranty is out)! I need a new fan for it (its a double fan? it has two fans thats are held as one big fan) Now I am abit confused to buy a fan replacement because the fans on for example ebay: 1. The cables on the fans are different of mine, from left to right is: (brown, yellow, red, black) on ebay from left to right (Red, yellow ,brown, black) another was (blue, yellow. red , black). Do the colors matter? I see many different options, since my laptop seems to fit different types (mine is a Y50-70, it will also be included with for example Y50-70AS or Y50-70AM). 2. What about manufacturer part number? Some selling on Ebay dont have a part number? Can I buy that fan for a replacement if it doesnt have one? (It looks exactly like my fan and has the same connector (4 pins) but the color on them are wrong and they have the same volt). On the FCN sticker on mine says DFS501105PQ0T. Would love if you could answer these questions I have never brought any parts before.
hello tim im gladly watch the video and super cool. id like to order my unit with gpu cooling fan too lenovo legion y730 15inch. what number should i know to puchase ?
Can u tell me please, if i have the only 1 fan connected, the broken one is disconnected, can the system limit my videocard for 50% load only? Because i noticed that after disconnecting my second cooling fan i lost a lot of performance in games. Legion 7 2022.
Lenovo Legion laptops are Higher End laptops ... So why do they Ship with HDD's installed ( Shocking ) Xmas Come Early for Us .. Regular Vids from Tim ='s Happy Days .. Cheers Tim
the Legion is more like Middle-End lol. Comparing to my 16" MacBook Pro M1 Pro, the Legion is inferior in terms of the following: keyboard, touchpad, speaker, LCD Screen (Mac's Mini LED is way superior), case material (plastic + metal vs. full metal), and battery life. In terms of performance, my Mac can't compete in gaming. However, in machine learning, Mac takes the W.

Glad it helped

question what happen if you replace a fan that doesnt match the number of the fan?

what is the serial number for the laptop? i want to check that the parts listed are compatible for my laptop (Legion 5-15ARH05H
Link is expired😔 it sends different sized fans now
How important is the size match? They look identical aside from the lack of number matching.
can you please tell where exactly the keyboard connector is?
Are there other fans u can use for them? Because my laptop is saying that a driver wasn’t installed for it and I don’t know how to install it
Is it necessary to remove the battery at the beginning?
Probably a good idea when working at motherboard level.

me too, after cleaning the fan very gently, got gpu fan problem soon. Perhaps, it is because some screws are too tight or loose.

Is it gonna be same process when cleaning the fan?
Yes

Not sure if that fan will work. It's always best to match exactly what you have. perhaps searching elsewhere you may find a match.
