  • Learn how to make a bonsai tree yourself! In this video we show you how to create a bonsai from cheap nursery stock material. The tree we work on is a Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria), purchased at a local garden center for about 10 USD.
Bonsai Empire is dedicated to share the living art of Bonsai - we created this video as a DIY tutorial to help and motivate beginners. The video is part of the online courses that we offer, for more free videos go to:

Nice little tree! You mentioned that this was done in fall and it will be repotted in spring. Can we expect an update video with the new bonsai pot?

It almost feels like a spoiler when you show the after shot before you've even started work. I want to see the tree progress to the finished style. Nice tree in the end though.

Thank you for sharing this video Oscar. Can you tell me which type of Cryptomeria this one is please? I've been trying to find the ID of a plant I have and the one you used for the video is is the nearest I have ever seen.

Would you recommend to buy these trees locally or would it be okay to order one online?

Both should be fine I think, these young plants are super strong so they can be shipped easily.
