- A west bound Canadian National manifest , made up of auto racks and Herzog ballast hoppers, departs Jasper yard. While this is a unusual combination, it's what happens after the train that is a bigger surprise, as a Black Bear decides to do a quick track inspection!.
Bears are a common sight in Jasper, as they come into town in search of easy food.
hahahah!!! Oh man, that is hilarious! nice video Greg, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Jacob! It was amusing how he sat on the rail and chill out..LOL.
Gregg :-)
Beautiful area up there, wonder what the blue test sign is for. Hope it’s cooling down there. It’s amazing how CN mixes their freight trains. Love the bear. He must be a train fan! lol
It sure is Terry! I hope to get back there one day . I think the "Test" sign has something to do with entrance to the yard...someone did tell me when I was there? Trains can stop before the crossing and the gates will go up after a certain time, we call it "Super control" down here, and then when the signal clears, trains have to crawl towards the road and the gates will drop once on the "road track".Has been crazy heat down here, was 32 cel at 3 am last week ...pretty much over it by now..LOL.
Thanks for watching mate.
Cheers Gregg.
A most unexpected and exciting catch for you Gregg. Sure beats the usual roo!
Sure does Richard! The only one I saw on the whole trip, and that includes 4 days on the Canadian and 2 on the RM. Glad I didn't see any while I was hiking in Lake Louise..LOL
Cheers Gregg.
FishplateFilms As long as you run a wee bit faster than Lord Stan you've got no worries!
hi Gregg... that was an awesome video.. i hope the bear found the track & ballast in good working order.. thanks for sharing.. vinny
Thanks Vinny, was lucky to get this one for sure! He seemed to approve and was happy with the rail head temperature..LOL.
Cheers Gregg.
Great stuff Gregg! I'm loving these videos you shot while you were in Jasper. Pretty lucky to catch a bear! I always carry bear spray in the parks, you never know when you are going to run into one of these guys.
Thank you Ben, I'm glad you're enjoying an Aussie's take on your backyard! This was the only one I saw, though I did think about them while I was walking the trails at Lake Louise!! I decided a heavy tripod was a good defence...don't know how I'd go with the spray...probably have it the wrong way and get myself..LOL
Thanks for watching mate.
Gregg.
CN is just ensuring the bears have something to fall back on if CN decides to sub contract track inspection services.
LOL...you just never know!!
Gregg:-)
And the squirrel (@4:31) is bear's apprentice. :)
LOL...could be ! They are called a Hairy Mommont ...or something like that??
Gregg.
Interesting to see that A-frame gate on that crossing.
Yes , I only noticed that after you pointed it out! We had old wooden gates that were like that but I can't remember what this one was.
Thanks for watching.
Gregg.
Awesome video dude thanks
Thanks William! Glad you like it.
Gregg :-)
That was a nice catch for sure Gregg! We have black bears here in Florida as well. They're not terribly aggressive. If one comes at you just stand up and wave your hands above your head while yelling "BOOGA BOOGA BOOGA"! If that doesn't work, no need to outrun the bear. One needs only to outrun the fella' next to him. LOL! Cheers, Dan
Thanks Danny! Would they understand Booga Booga with and Aussie accent?? As we say down here, always go into the bush with a fat slow bloke..LOL
Cheers Gregg.
Hey gregg, love your comment around the 5:00 mark!
Bernie
Yes Bernie, I was near a road with cars around so I reckon I could outrun him a few yards to the road..LOL
Gregg.
I was in the exact same place 1 yr earlier, saw no bears at that time. I have to get back over there sometime!
Nice Bernie, I really liked Jasper and I hope to get back there some time.
Cheers Gregg.
Thank to my new MIDI cable this looks swell on 52" flatscreen.
That's great Wally! I'm glad I didn't drag all my camera gear all over Canada for nothing..LOL. Glad you like it and thank you for watching my videos!
Cheers Gregg.
Gregg good thing he didn't come your way, they have more than sharp teeth, their claws tear at flesh!
Yes Joe , you wouldn't wan't to upset one!
Thanks for watching.
Gregg.
You're the next david attenburough
Lol
Don't know about that...I've a long way to go to get to Sir David's fame...but thank you.
Gregg.
That's Sir David Attenburough!! LOL
Yes it is! He received his Knighthood a few years ago. Though he still prefers to be called David!
Great catch , does QR have good track inspector's like that ? ,lol
cheers Glynn
Thanks Glynn. Some trackies do look a bit like that????
Cheers Gregg.
Wow! That almost looks real. Wait! It was! Wow! That would be a tremendous look for a model rr.
Yes John, there's some great scenery up there!
Gregg.
THANK YOU...for sharing. BEAR!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for watching!!
Gregg.
Hello from USA, nice bear! your not threatened by Gita I hope.
Thanks Spike! Gators are not too bad compared to our salt water Crocodiles! They will eat a man whole and half his boat...and do so every now and then! But I wouldn't argue with a bear either..LOL
Cheers Gregg.
Awesome video.
Thank you!
Cheers Gregg.
Cheap labour - pot of honey, some granola bars, bit of chocolate, no unions to deal with. But watch out if he starts pulling up ties to get to tasty grubs! Love it! . . . Diana
Maybe Diana, but they seem to sit down a bit on the job..LOL. Glad I got one here and not on the trails of Lake Louise in foot deep snow!
Thanks for watching!
Gregg.
People have even been known to be on a bears diet but that is very very rare. Excellent video Gregg.
Thank you Sir! I did have a long talk with some locals before I ventured out and got some "Bear" tips! I passed on the spray , if a bear was that close that I could spray it ...then it's too late..LOL. If this was a mum and cubs then a different story for sure! Now if it was a Grizzly...........
Cheers Gregg.
Grizzly's are a whole other matter for sure.
Hi Greg, did you see the other little animal on the rail a little bit further up to the right of the bear, not sure what it was but it stood up on a rail before moving to the right , then ran into the bush, was quite funny. Regards Gary 😊
Yes Gary, they are a "Hoary Marmot" if I remember rightly?? They are everywhere and you have to be careful not to step into their burrows...and break an ankle!!
Gregg :-)
FishplateFilms thank you Greg, I’ve not heard of them before, it looked funny, stood up, looked around and ran off, they have a bushy tail like squirrels. Regards Gary
Could you ever do a layout tour of your layout? Please.
There is one on the way in a few weeks!
Gregg :-)
Tha k you for replying so fast looking forward to it. :-)
You're welcome.
Cheers.
