Nobody had the throne before the Targaryens. There were seven separate kingdoms that Aegon the Conqueror consolidated under his rule when he took them. He had the Iron Throne made out of the swords of his conquered enemies.
And typical George, it took him as long to write one episode as the other writers took to write the other nine episodes lol imagine how much better the show would be if they could devote that much focus to each episode though.
And yet, it still boasts of the shitshow that is wildfire. With many more different applications that would work, and even the same application that would work more than once. It makes no sense that this was all that wildfire could do.
One thing that always struck me about The Hound in this episode is we get to understand just how deep his fear of fire is. The wildfire explosion setting the bay on fire, the flaming arrows, it was just all too much. His line "I'm going someplace that isn't burning" says it all.
Fun fact: Loras wore Renly's armour into battle. So Renly's men who defected to Stannis thought that Renly's ghost has came back for them and they ran away like a scared duck, contributing to the victory.
"And who are you?" The proud Lord said "That I must bow so low" Only a cat of a different coat That's all the truth I know In a coat of gold or a coat of red A lion still has claws Mine are long and sharp, my lord As long and sharp as yours And so he spoke, and so he spoke That Lord of Castamere But now the rains weep o'er his hall And not a soul to hear 🦁
Thank you for that insight into Sansa's thoughts. I almost choked on a drink when you said she'd rather go out and join the vanguard than hang with Cersei.
I am not the biggest Stannis fan, but that guy was out front the whole time. So this me putting some respect on his name. Great reaction as always Octobers. 🇺🇸
The scene where the hound offers to take Sansa with him makes littlefingers first scene with Sansa and Arya important in retrospect. Littlefinger told them about the mountain forcing the hounds face in the fire and told them that the hound would kill them if he knew they knew. This proves that the hound actually wanted to protect Sansa all along. Littlefinger was poisoning the well to make them afraid of the hound
Song that Brons sings has some importance to it. Usually songs being sung by characters foreshadow things through out the show. There's also a history to the song he is singing I'm sure you learn about eventually.
Great episode. What sticks out to me every time, in terms of accentuating Joffery's true nature, is that when war comes to the walls, everyone mans up and plays their part even Lancel. Lancel goes out with the vanguard and takes an arrow fighting right at the front, which really puts a fine point on how despicable Joff is, within the world.
This is one of the great parts of the show. A battle is happening where we see characters we love in danger and fear for them while at the same time saying good shot to a character we love on the other side of the battle.
The song Bronn sings is super interesting and VERY important to understanding House Lannister and Tywin in particular. It might be considered his own personal anthem, even. Its called "The Rains of Castamere," and the story behind it is that back in the days that Tywin's father, Tytos Lannister, was head of the family, House Lannister was considered a joke. He was too trusting and weak-willed and no one respected him. Some of his vassal houses grew bold enough switch allegiances, or outright ignored his orders. The final straw for Tywin was when two of their vassal houses - Houses Reyne and Tarbeck - took advantage of his father and took money from him under the guise of a "loan." Like, a LOT of money. And laughed about it behind Tytos' back. Tywin - humiliated repeatedly by his father's weakness and acting as heir - eventually went to them and demanded they repay House Lannister what they owed. Instead of acceding, Houses Reyne and Tarbeck decided to rebel against the Lannisters (The song goes "And who are you, the proud lord said / That I must bow so low?") so Tywin didn't just put them down: he utterly ANNIHILATED them. There are NO more Tarbecks and Reynes as Tywin had every man, woman, and child put to death for the disrespect. The way in which he destroyed House Reyne was particularly brutal, probably because they were the instigators. Its worth mentioning that House Reyne had been getting big-headed for years leading up to this moment. They were a very wealthy house and owned a mine they operated out of their seat at Castamere, and they were very old, having lineage dating back to the First Men. To add insult to injury, their house sigil was even a lion, just like House Lannister. ("In a coat of gold or a coat of red / a lion still has claws / And mine are long and sharp, my lord / as long and sharp as yours.") When Tywin brought his forces down on them, the Reynes fled into their own mines where they tried to send Tywin peace terms and surrender. In response, Tywin ordered all the entrances sealed, and then diverted water into the mines, drowning every person trapped inside. He wiped every last Reyne out of existence in a single moment ("But now the rains weep o'er his hall / With no one there to hear.") The song then spread as a testament of Tywin's ruthlessness and it was taken as a warning to all his future foes. He followed it up by building House Lannister back up as one of the most powerful and dangerous houses in the realm. Legacy is everything to Tywin, so the fact that this song details a time he completely wiped out the legacy of two influential houses for betraying them is enormously meaningful to his character.
I tend to giggle while watching you two react. All I am going to say is you have no idea what's coming your way and buckle up for the ride. You two are awesome!
Before the Targaryen rule, Westros was divided into seven kingdoms with seven kings leading them. Aegon Targaryen conquered six of them and made it into one kingdom. Dorn didn't join until much later. The Hound is an excellent brutal fighter who could win fights even against the best of them, but with all that fire around him, he was done with it all. He's still traumatized from having his face burned as a child. And Sansa is just stupid, she should have left with him
It's been a while since I read the books, but I'm pretty sure there were some heavily rapey undertones in the hounds demanor overall. But honestly, I dont really remember. The way I see this might be heavily clouded by now.
*credits roll* "Is this Stannis singing?" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I will never listen to those end credits again the same way. It definitely sounds like Stannis singing. Holy shit that's funny!
"But Sir,hundreds will die" "Thousands" Chills ofc Tyrion plan was simple, but Cersei was probably gonna throw it form castle walls in catapults or something like that, while Tyrion found a way to get explosives to enemies even before they cameeee, ofc Tyrion is good at this, hes the only one that resembles Tywin in mind
I am genuinely so impressed by and proud of you guys so far! I've been binge catching up on the last 5 episodes of these reactions tonight. You guys are really catching so many storylines, and we can see how invested you've both become. I'm loving hearing all of your thoughts! So far you're asking all the right questions. Exciting that you now get to see your first GoT battle! I'm SO EXCITED as we get closer to Season 3. Brace yourselves for things to pick up even more! I recall one of you saying youre noticing things speed up already. Its really bringing me back to the first time I watched.
I love that Mrs. October is enjoying every moment that is possible to enjoy, as it happens... And Mr. October is adding it to the tab of things that he's gonna worry about on behalf of the character for the future. Lol. 🤣
This is where GoT really kicked into high gear for me. From this episode up until the end of Season 5 it was one of the absolute best TV shows ever made, before they ran out of book material to work from and started thinking they could do a better job than the author himself. Martin is INFURIATINGLY slow, but he is without doubt a master of his craft.
I feel that a lot of the book material they did adapt from AFFC & ADWD was mishandled as well... still many memorable moments... but many plotlines became unrecognizable or thin. But I still love the show. ❤ lol. Game of Thrones forever!
Your falling into the trap of rooting against the lannisters(or joffrey) means everything they do is wrong or evil.cersei actually was giving Sansa good advice.
Si, Las Lluvias de Castamere y Jenny Piedras Viejas son dos canciones que no hizo Ramin Djawadi pero no bajan la calidad tan sobresaliente de la música
Tyrion got into a couple of fights in the first book. He and Cat managed to kill a man together and some time later Tywin sent him into a big battle and he did well, but in the end he needed to be saved, but he survived. The showrunners ran out of money to do this battle scene, so they had the scene with Tyrion talking about Tysha and then he was knocked out
Joffrey would have given Stannis the Mannis that red smile if not for Mom Cersei calling him in 🤣. Good thing Tyrion really stepped up to the plate and held for as long as he could. - This episode we see the Hound freeze up when seeing fire. You can't blame the man for how deep his fire PTSD runs. - Stannis was so eager to keep fighting, he had to be dragged off by his own men. - Tywin's army doubled timed it to King's Landing just in time. We see the Tyrells now on the side of the Lannisters. - Something not explained: Loras Tyrell was wearing Renly Baratheon's armor, This added a superstitious fear to some Stannis' men as they felt the ghost of Renly was exacting revenge on them for flipping to Stannis' side.
I’m usually not a book purist but this is one of my few acceptions. In the books Davos has like 20 kids that captained the fleet and they all died, leaving davos stranded without water for like a week
There was no singular throne before the targareans...aegon the conqueror united the kingdoms first making him the original king of westoros (7 kingdoms)
Tyrion isn't a warrior but he is a brilliant mind, and has his fathers mind for leading...earlier in the show when Davos is talking to his son they say that they out number kings landing 5 to 1 which is why when Tyrion blows up all those men (prolly half) stannis still outnumbered them so he proceeded on, and would have won had Tywin not showed up with the Tyrells last minute.
I hope u guys haven't gotten away from the details of this show already...even the music has important details...some of the houses have dope themes and folk music that adds tremendously to the show..stay locked in 👀🔒
Didn't you remember the Lore? Stannis is technically speaking? A Targaryen anyway, As was/is every Baratheon ever. It's the unofficial Cadet branch of the House Targaryen.

George RR wrote this episode and it shows. One of the best epiosdes of the entire series.
And typical George, it took him as long to write one episode as the other writers took to write the other nine episodes lol imagine how much better the show would be if they could devote that much focus to each episode though.
Agree
And yet, it still boasts of the shitshow that is wildfire. With many more different applications that would work, and even the same application that would work more than once. It makes no sense that this was all that wildfire could do.

One thing that always struck me about The Hound in this episode is we get to understand just how deep his fear of fire is. The wildfire explosion setting the bay on fire, the flaming arrows, it was just all too much. His line "I'm going someplace that isn't burning" says it all.
"F**CK the King!" 🤴 😮 The Hound has endured enough trauma in Joffrey's name. It was so satisfying to watch him dip in that moment.
Fun fact: Loras wore Renly's armour into battle. So Renly's men who defected to Stannis thought that Renly's ghost has came back for them and they ran away like a scared duck, contributing to the victory.
Drunk Cersei is lowkey hilarious.

Damn arrows. Lancel could have been an adventurer. 😄

@@TheOctobersReact It was your tone too. Just so straightforward. Hahaha. I am dead. Funniest comment
Tyrion wasn’t knocked out during that battle in the books. if i remember correctly, he fought, killed, and even managed to take at least one captive
Not only keeping track of the characters, houses, but also the music or songs used adds so many fantastic details to this show.
I love how this episode portraits Joffrey. He is scared. He is honest. He asks Tyrion what to do, like, that is nothing he ever did
"But Sir,hundreds will die"
"Thousands" Chills

A little milk of the poppy will fix that cough right up. Or at least make you not care about your cough...much. feel better.
Stannis at the front line leading his men is top tier 👌🏾
agreeed!
The hound is scared of fire
omg wow that actually slipped my mind duh he got his face burnt!
thank you for that
Stannis wasn’t getting captured he was having to be pulled away by his men because he refused to quit the fight
While I’m likely in the minority, this is perhaps my favorite episode of the entire show.
This was my "first" fav episode...but then the show continued 😮
@@82joon ha that’s fair.

Let’s go y’all been waiting for this episode. With y’all for the long haul!!! Cant wait for season 4!!
Ours is the Fury - words of house Baratheon and Stannis lives that motto. If Tywin and Loras didn’t show up he would have taken the city
Pay attention to the final song of this episode that called "the rains of castamere". It's very nice and important of course ❤

my go to song each time i need cheering up. lol
I think that was Bronn singing during the credits. He had a pretty good singing career before back in the UK. Had some top hits.
Nope that version in the end credits is by the lead singer of the band The National
@@darcypenn6702 Oh cool thanks for the info. 👍
Jerome Flynn (Bronn) was part of a singing duo in the mid 90s Robson and Jerome
Stannis was being pulled back by his soldiers
Stannis does not mess about though and he’s a good fighter for his age. I respect the fact he fights on the frontline with his troops. 🙏

"The night is dark and full of wildfire!". Lol 😅

I have had a terrible day today... came online and saw you posted this... I haven't even watched it yet but I am already happier for it.. thanks guys.
we are glad :) we hope your day is better!
There was no singular throne before the targareans...aegon the conqueror united the kingdoms first making him the original king of westoros (7 kingdoms)

thank you!! you’re the best
damn, likes were 666 when I had to break the curse. lets go guys, glad yall are into this shit. the show gets better and better just you wait son!!!
Targaryens were the first kings of Westeros. Before them it's was 7 small separate kingdoms.
oh yeah thanks for reminding me
Halfman! Halfman! Halfman! Halfman! \m/
The Lannister song is the rains of castemere song.
Westeros was divided as seven kingdoms before Aegon united them all into one.
I remember this episode!! I watched it so many times when I bought all the DVDs to the series. That wildfire explosion was epic to see. 😱

Daenerys Targaryen was who I rooted for from the beginning. I just love her character.

aw thanks so much killer clair! we appreciate you!
Cersei does nothing but drop wisdom on Sansa and everyone hates her for it.
There was no throne before the Targaryens.
noone had the throne before the targaryens, aegon the conqueror made it
REMEMBER THAT SONG. The one that Bronn and the credits sang. You won’t regret it :)
If Hound offered me the choice to leave, after what Sansa went through, would have taken it
Stannis, the mannis. The true king of westoros. The fighter, the commander, the justice
Tywin is the only man that Stannis is scared of
Nobody is going to tell how Cersei's "courage" uplifted their spirits.
Great reaction.
