I love these stories. I'm mid GenX and named after my ww2 vet grandfather that i never got to know...and i have another close relative that faught in patton's 3rd army that i did get to know but he didn't talk about any of it until he was almost dead...then he showed me all the 100's of photos that he took over there...that was something else to say the least...
    Thank you!

Gene. George S. Patton knew it: "We defeated the wrong enemy."
He was murdered on orders of Franklin "Moshe" Roosevelt.

Now think of this. WW2 is almost exactly as far away as current day as the American civil war was from WW2. Seriously consider that...the way we think of WW2 and it's influence on our current world is the same influence the civil war had on WW2 culture. When time is measured in an extremely digestible sense it hits me so much harder. Long segments of time make it easy to lose relevance to my current life but thats pretty wild.

@tinman8518 seriously dude it's pretty wild. I'm 38 and have spent my entire life learning about WW2 and it clearly has serious influence on current day culture and politics. When I think of the Civil war I almost think of medieval knights lol. It's wild to imagine the civil war having as much influence on the WW2 Era as WW2 has on us currently.

When I was young in the 70’s, ww2 seemed like it was ancient history to me almost. Perspectives sure change when you get older.

Ain't it odd ? A '49er, my grandmother was ɓorn in the old age of the Wild Ŵest and she remains only an instant away in time because I know her story ìn à good gossipy ŵay. Respect your family ghosts truths. They can teach yòu a lot if you understand metàphore & go with the flow.

Ran with men like this from mid-'85 till they mostly died off in the early 2,000. Romanced them through mail, did my best meeting them at reunions and spent thousands of hrs transcribing what they said. Speciaiased in evader and then the very most interesting and ŵidest of all WWII experiences - the mostly forgotten 'also rans' ! The aircombat hardly rivals a tour as a grounded tourist across Occupied Europe & the ground civies who helped and died for them are forgotten to gether with their betrayers & an excellent German Securities service doing an excellent job who were not all bad people - only very intèrestìñg folks one you got to know them. C'est la guerre . . .

If you haven’t seen the full video, go check it out. It’s probably one of my very favorites of this channel. Combat in the air is my favorite part of the war. This guy is the epitome of a badass.
