I guess this is an editing of two footages : at the beginning and at the end, he bows on the stage of Philharmonic Hall in Leningrad (now St Petersburg). The performance in itself could have been performed in Germany : the piano comes the August Förster factory, based in Saxony (former East Germany).

My favorite Chopin 1961
I have heard many performances of this piece, but this is, by far, my favorite. I love Van Cliburn's interpretations of Chopin.
Grew up listening to this: thank you for the joy of being able to see Van Cliburn playing this indescribably majestic music.
