  • Yamaha intentionally designed the 2019+ radiator cooling so that it would work in the intended default configuration with no windshield, where the intake gets a ram air effect, but also if you had a non-vented or poorly-vented windshield. It's a compromise for both configurations but here's how to optimize it for maximum cooling efficiency with STOCK (modified) components and get FREE heat to boot.

I just put a glass windshield on mine . It has vents in the bottom and just took it for short road ride and im finding alot of heat blowing between the seats now coming out of that air intake and my machine is stock , i haven't touched the fan direction at all. Why would i feel the heat blowing out of the intake ?

Heat naturally rises so when the fans aren't running the heat is going to rise and migrate into the cab.

@MassiveOverkill I just never noticed it before installing the windshield. One guy mentioned he installed a rear window aswell to stop the turbulence affect and that hot air being basically sucked into the cab .

    That’s a big radiator

Interesting-How did you reverse fan direction?

offroaddesignworks.com/ actually made me a prototype harness where I can swap plug ends to change the polarity. Since I'll be running them in reverse full time, I'm simply going to pull the pins on the fan harnesses and swap them.

Does reversing the fans with a front windshield in place suck in exhaust fumes? Thanks

Not exhaust fumes but sometimes dust, which wasn't an issue in the winter. Yesterday I reconfigured for warm riding..........fans still reverse but I removed the radiator cover and reconfigured my rear vinyl window to cover all the rear area so no heat migrates inside.

    Do they make reversible fans?

I don't know technically if the stock radiator fan motors are timed to work better in one direction than the other and having the fans blow air through the radiator vs sucking air isn't optimal but most of us simply reverse the polarity of the fans and I haven't heard of anyone having any longevity issues doing so. When the fans do come on, their duty cycle is really short, like 5 seconds max that I've experienced.
