It's interesting how the Norwegians have such slight accents compared to other Europeans, especially other Scandinavians. They kind of sound like a cross between Americans and Brits.
I lived in Norway for years, and made it my mission to learn the language immediately, and became and remain fluent. Norwegians speak many languages fluently, and are otherwise very well educated, well traveled. Americans are far behind in these areas, and unlike Norwegians, it shows, sadly.
we start learning english @ age 7. Western Norwegians sound like this, like the Prince and Princess. Eastern Norwegians sound like clowns with no makeup. Either inbred or finance clowns. Northern Norwegians can hardly speak Norwegian so their English is kinda like Welsh with a cod in their mouth.
@@donnabaardsen5372the difference is. America is so much larger then other European countries. We travel, just as much as people of other countries do probably even more. We just all speak English unless you’re an immigrant. We don’t have other cultures around us unless you live on the boarder. Which lost Americans don’t. Also if say we want to go to European countries it’s quite expensive to do so.
I think Haakon's accent is also impacted by his father's. King Harald lived in the USA for several years during WW2 when Norway was under Occupation. So Harald speaks English with a slight American accent and it's reflected in Haakon's speech patterns too--also his granddaughter Ingrid's English as well!
Yes I am from Norway and unless you live in extremely rural areas, you will most likely speak English fluently or have a high understanding of the English vocabulary, much like the neatherlands, Sweden, and Denmark, etc... if you go there you will be able to get around just fine speaking English Snakker norsk og engelsk
Her highness' English, in particular, sounds almost un-accented. I would venture to say she has spent some real time in North America. BTW/I have also heard snippets of English from their daughter, Princess Ingrid-Alexandra, who speaks virtually without any accent -- she essentially sounds like an American teenager.
They are so fluent, natural and engaging and have no problem expressing their opinions freely, unlike our rather stiff Royal couples like Will and Kate or Sophie and Edward who are nice decent people butvrsther wooden snd embsrrassed when interviewed and Kate in particulsr sometimes still looks like a rabbit in headlights if asked an off the cuff complex question. Kate could learn from Crown Princess Mette Marit as she is so articulate and doesn't play the deference game with her l husband - instead they come across as respectful equals. Of course the European Royals are luckier in one respect (which might account for their frankness) they don't have the bullying Murdoch press to contend with, nosing into their private lives and making nasty comments or twisting leaked stories.
and if these two were asked an off the cuff question they would be the same, they all read up on what they're going to talk about and William and Catherine not wooden and the European royals are not as high profile
I really like Kate but I always think the same thing, that she often looks like a deer caught in the headlights and seems hesitant to speak. I think that she's probably afraid to say the wrong thing but it's very unfortunate. You can't help but notice the huge differences between these two women.
@@lsmith9249 Disagree. Mette-Marit is very articulate and well-informed. Crown Princess Mary of Denmark is as well. Kate is still very unsure of herself and seems afraid to speak, probably lest she say the same thing. The British courtiers are very controlling and they run things, not the royals-way more than with the other courts.

I know no one is gonna read this and comment but Crown Pince Haakon’s English sound likes he’s from Ontario, Canada and Crown Princess Mette Marit English soundslike she is from Toronto, Canada.
So what? this is not about where they got their accent from the interview is about how their country is moving toward innovation, technology and gender equality. Please pay attention to their substance not their accent or how they talk you will miss out. They are so lovely both engaged on the subject and very well informed.

The last things Norway needs is more "new age thinking." I think this is a very hard sell, Norway doesn't have what it needs in terms of resources to encourage a viable startup culture unless something drastic changes and col and taxes go down.
Norway taxes, but we don't stupid tax. Companies have a very good time operating here but they have to pay their share. It's not like the United States where companies avoid taxes completely through politician run loopholes. That would never happen here. The CEO salary to bottom salary workers is top 3 lowest in the world because we don't allow corruption like that.
We have more than enough energy through water power alone to supply the entire country, probably the entirety of Scandinavia. The thing we lack is sustainable farmland and so we have to trade. Like I could buy oranges right now, but they come from South Africa, because it is too cold here. A lot of energy from Norway is traded for much less sustainable energy from other places (*cough China *cough) which is a part of a whole lot bigger global issue that needs to be addressed. But I don't think our governments's roles in that should be overlooked.

all the Scandinavian countries teach English to children, so it's no surprise
