Man.. The way Syd was able to play the lead guitar during only one take while the tape was playing backwards is absolutely bonkers/mind boggling to even think of. He’s not the only musician or artist to step off the bandwagon but he seems to be the most publicized which was exactly what he did not want. He called himself a failed pop musician and I’m sure he wanted to move on from that and the stigma. He carried on well enough considering psychiatric woes. Replace dominoes with fame is highly appropriate actually when you think about it as one poster here suggests

The song against Rosemary. Nobody listened to the words. She had her way with him and ended up with his royalties. So it goes. Sometimes family is hideous and can't be trusted.
Try swapping the word 'fame' with 'dominoes' throughout the song to see what you think of Barretts thoughts on the fame machine. Waters and Gilmour are both old grumpies now lol, maybe Barrett had it right and was first to the punch as usual! Just a thought...
They both are overwhelmed with either power (Waters) or fame and money (Gilmore). Syd got it dead right he didn't want the indignity of meeting them in the sandpit on a flying kind of sighing in a meddlesome way. He knew the way!

SYD BARRETT a NUDE BEAUTY; a WASTED MIND (from drugs and excesses); a TRUE GENIUS who left the entire world and future generations a precious legacy: PSYCHEDELIC MUSIC. Barrett wrote some songs of that musical genre, never heard before, around the YEARS 1965/1966 and anticipated the already famous BEATLES who "gave birth" to the famous psychedelic album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in 1967; this detail of the musical "paternity" of PSYCHEDELIA says a lot about the innate qualities possessed by SYD BARRET. I repeat the adjectives with which from my point of view I describe SYD BARRETT: a TRUE GENIUS; the CREATOR of PSYCHEDELIC MUSIC; a PRECURSOR who musically anticipated his times. He was a musician who had VERY CLEAR IDEAS in his mind when he "pricked" the guitar strings and sang over them HARMONIES AS STRANGE as they were DELICIOUS. I would add that I still consider the album THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN, in which BARRET's work is predominant, "a relic" and it will be precisely those songs "out of time" that pave the way for the very first PINK FLOYD, which then passed in the hands of DAVID GILMOUR. BARRETT's two solo albums from 1970, especially the first, are to be appreciated even now despite having already completed "53 BIRTHDAYS"... Unfortunately BARRETT's musical clarity was unfortunately too short, otherwise today HE would find himself without no doubt about the PODIUM OF THE BEST musicians in the world: SYD BARRETT will still have a VERY important place in many hearts of people of all ages for all the good things he has done for MUSIC and will remain there FOREVER...!!! R.I.P. Syd 💔❤

Having been born in ‘72 I’ve at least some memories of those lost days. First time hearing this song now... You can always hear the difference in Syd’s voice from 1967 and after.
