Woolworth was the best. I use to get grilled cheese and a soda. We weren’t allowed soda at home so this was a party. My daughter still talks about it. She was 7 yrs old. Every Saturday my mother, daughter and I would go shopping in the morning and go to Woolworth’s for lunch. lol. Those were the days. 😊❤
Yes and their fried chicken .. I miss Woolworth. Also bought the pound of yarn and it was always $4.99!!!!!!!
I’m 69 years young and I remember Woolworth. It was awesome! I have a skein of yarn with the Woolworth either label or price tag. A very pretty variegated pink. The label understandingly all beat up. Hear in Odessa that store closed down yeas and years ago. :)

You brought back a ton of memories for this 60 yo gal. My grandmother would take me to Woolworths as a kid and we would always have lunch after shopping. The milkshakes were the best! ❤

My Oma & I would shop at Woolworth's too. We would always stop at the countertop with stools and get a frankfurter with a milk shake. Then I got to pick out a pretty new frilly prissy dress and some sayelle yarn. Nana always preferred the reds, I wanted the pinks.

I remember taking a bus downtown with my mom and grandmother to Woolworths, shopping, then having lunch there. My mom and grandmother always got liver and onions. Yuck! Thank you for another session, Juan. I just about finished my boggy blanket! Love and hugs!

Juan, love these sessions.!!!! Completed 3 blankets for gifts. Now working on a sweater.
I think learning new things and patterns is my thing because I would keep starting projects every day if I would allow myself. So I have to start things that are really interesting to keep me going. Right now I am doing a scarf with Tunisian simple stitch and a cake of Mandala Warlock mixed with with 2 solid color yarns. I use beige with the dark colors and a shade of purple with the light colors. It is mesmerizing. It keeps me engaged because I love the color development. Color has been my thing lately. I do have two UFO’s. A sheep that got lost and I recently found it and a granny stitch top that bored me and I put it away. In between, I’ve been using up yarn making granny squares for the heck of it. 4 colors per square with some plain ones.
Hi juan, your blankets are beautiful!.i can see the mermaid effect and it's gorgeous!. I like to finish a project and then start another. But on the odd occasion i do have 2 projects on the go, at the same time. Your second blanket is full of stunning colours. The more the better i say. Fantastic video!. As always! Thankyou! I remember having lunch at Woolworth's very well !! Their Coke with vanilla syrup was amazing, and I loved their tuna melts !!!

I’m finished with an afghan for a friend almost done with a cowl then I have another afghan to finish and a shawl. Right now I’m working on a blanket with Tunisian simple stitch and omg I love it!! This one is def for me!!!!
Juan if you sit for a long period of time you’re going need to drink water and take a walk but you can still drink your coffee 😊😊just add water to your diet 😊😊
Especially with diabetes. Not mother hen.. just love you and want you to be around a long time in good health.

Totally feeling like I missed out on the Woolworth’s experience! When it comes to not buying yarn I do stash diving and avoid going to yarn shops. A “Be happy with what I got at home” mantra is adopted.

I was working on a bag project listening today. Juan you took me down memory lane and made me think where did my grandma buy yarn? Sprouse-Reitz a five and dime was all we had in the small town we lived in, I can still remember the creak of the wooden floor!
I'm currently working on a granny rectangle for Boggy Creek and special squares for Billie. I only need 6 more scarf and hat sets to finish my donation to a local charity. That leaves me 3 WIPS which I'm not in a rush to finish. I do, however, have a list of projects to start. Enjoy listening to you chat while I crochet.
Juan I only do 3 WIP at a time...one time I was making 7 scarfs for the men n my family..all n separate totes n different colors ..I lined them up n a row n crocheted a lil on each every day..I really enjoyed just using a simple stitch on each n I finished all for Xmas gifts ❤
I am 57, and I remember going to Woolworths with my mom after my brother and sister went to school. She cleaned the house, and we had hamburgers and Milkshakes for lunch! Good memories!
I'm on my needles with a wrap I designed that I've had to already frog twice, I've got 11 wips: 6 crochet, 4 knit, 1 knit and crochet. I'm already working on Christmas gifts and finished 2 of them. I've never made any Halloween projects hmmm. Usually I just buy the yarn that I need to finish a project but the last month purchased yarn for future projects. I used to just go out a long time ago and purchase yarn just coz it's there LOL. Although I would love to have my own yarn wall one day that would be cool 😉
Hats are always good for winter
You can do a no buy month, like no buy November or something like that. See how much you can use in a month. I only buy yarn a couple of times a year on sale and try to buy with a project in mind. Budget and space is limited so it's also a fun challenge to see what I can get.

My first project was a baby afghan for one of my nephews 32 yrs ago. I believe it was Lion Brand Jamie.
Working on Squiggle Wiggle blanket. Also have a WIP that is Beaded weighted blanket that is monotonous so I need something fun to work on too! I appreciate the crochet session 💜
I loved Woolworth. Ours had a clear umbrella that hung from the ceiling upside down. It was filled with small inflated balloons with prices inside. You would pick a color, pop it and see how much your sundae was. I remember 10 cents, 25 cents and super excited to find a free. I don't know if it was just the one we went to or if they all did it.
Juan.... I have crochet, knitting, diamond painting and sewing WIPS all over the house. I am in my early 60s, been crocheting since I was 10 or so. I have been trying to get some things finished since I am getting older and not sure if I will be able to crochet until I am 100 like I would like to. Lol.
Good point about the Caron One Pound colors! I was just thinking the exact same thing yesterday. It’s great yarn, but always just the same ‘ole same ‘ole.

We had a Murphys in the mall that sounds like your Woolworths. It had a little diner off to the side. They had THE best fresh made caramel corn!
Juan. When my mom taught me to crochet she would buy me Red Heart Super Saver. I still buy it.

I keep four wips going at all times. I finish one wip l start a new project. Most days I work on all four wips. Last month I finished all four of my wips on the same day. ❤

I looooved Woolworths over here, best shop ever. You asked about people who have no wips, that's me, I can't stand having wips I have to start something and finish it before I start anything else. Having said that I do have one wip at the moment, I'm working on a cotton blanket that's taking me a long time but I have put that aside to make boggy blankets but as soon as they are done I'll be back on that single project until it's done haha.
Hi Juan! I have a few wips😂 just finished a big😂h project and have 2 boggy blankets on the hook; a chevron and the squiggle wiggle💜. I am loving the squiggle wiggle. The change in stitches and colors are all the thing💜. It’s keeping it interesting🎉

I only allow myself 2 WIPs at a time. If I didn’t, I’d be like you with 12 unfinished projects, and then I’d be overwhelmed and stressed about getting them done.

Omg you don’t want to know how many wips I have lol. Every time I see a new yarn either in the store, online or in my stash I see a new project. I have 1 object that was in timeout but now is a ufo. It’s a pull over sweater but will be remade into a cardigan or shawl
I am mainly a knitter although I can crochet so right now I am gift knitting for the holidays-socks, fingerless mitts, cowls and knitted snow couple from Mary Maxim.
Good morning Juan. Well, you just met a person that has no wips. I start a project until its finished. If something is off or doesn't feel right, I frog it and start it again. The only time I ever start a second project is, If I ran out of the yarn and waiting for it to come in. Have an awesome day.

My WIP is a Boggy blanket made with Herrschners Antiquity. Over the long weekend, I paused it and made 5 loaf cats to take to work on Tuesday. Now I'm back to my blanket. I have a list on my computer of future projects that I want to make. Some of the projects on the list include the yarn(s) that I want to use for them.
I made an inventory list of my Premier yarn in a Google spreadsheet so if I'm shopping there again, I can refer to it and see what I already have. I am not that organized in the rest of my life. LOL

Maybe we can all participate in a yarn buying ban challenge for a week(or a month?) and see if it sparks our creativity. It could be fun if we all do it together.

I recently finished this cardigan that I had unfinished for over a year. I pulled it out once did the ribbing of one side and didn’t do the other. The other day I was going through my “to frog” box and found a piece of ribbing and realized… I could complete this sweater in an afternoon. And I did! And I’m wearing it now!
This is the second time making this same sweater cause the other one I made was too small so I gave it to my sister in law.
I remember those stores. My mother and I used to go them. After they left the area it was Harts here in town. Finally got a Joann’s and Hobby Lobby. Now our Walmart store has next to nothing in yarn and the other store in my town that has yarn is Meijers. Other wise I have to drive 30 miles to go to the other stores. Local Dollar Tree doesn’t have any yarn area in it. 😂😂
I am as bad as you are when it comes to WIPs. I have (close to finishing) a blue shawl, a bag/purse to felt when done, 2 cotton couch blankets I need for Christmas, 2 granny stitch Bobby Creek blankets, a fancy stitch Bòbby Creek blankets from one of your tutorials, and 2 fancy stich Boggt Creek blankets that I designed with regular stitches. Plus, I just came home from JoAnn's with more BIG Twist, including Rainbow Btight. A mail order just arrived too. I tell myself not to start anything new until I finish some of the WIPs. Then I can make more! My problem is Loving to plan and start, to see how it looks.
I was one WIP till I found UA-cam. I also found Tunisian and knitting so I always need at 3 WIPS now.
Both blankets are super. Love how colorful and happy they appear. 💜

I am working on one of YOUR triangle scarves but am continuing on for a shawl. I plan to give the shawl to my mother for the winter months (she is 84 years young).

I have 15 crochet whips, 2 knitting whips, and one counted cross stitch whip (but I just ordered 2 more kits). Several of 5he whips are going to be Christmas presents, and most of the projects got put on the back burner when my son told me he and his wife are expecting another baby, so of course, I had to start crocheting for the new baby.
I'm making the same blanket with you - mine is for my niece who requested the colors - I'm using Lion Brand Wool Ease Fair Isle in Light Aqua / Turquoise. It's patchy but nice. And I love Wool Ease, so there is a plus. 🤟🧶

I have two things on my hook, a granny bag from TL yarn craft and a Minecraft blanket for my son. But I’m itching to start the texture cabinet throw, I got two of the Caron anniversary cakes that I’m going to be using for it.

I loved buying yarn from Woolworth's, I cried when they closed ours down. It was owned by Wool Co, which is Walmart.❤💜💜💜💜💜❤ Mainstays needs new colors too, more colors, and some Ombres and more variegated. I'm limited on my yarn buying. Each month I can either buy 1 Mandala and a Mainstay, or 3 Mainstay or 1 Red heart Super Saver and a Mainstay. Try doing that, lol, takes me forever to get anything finished. But I'm not complaining, I'm content with my life.
Normally I only have one wip but sense I have been watching UA-cam I have had at least 4wips going at the same time

I still have 2 corner to corner blankets, 1 45x75 granny square blanket ( these are for donations), 1 hexagon cardigan, 1 shawl, 1 very hungry caterpillar granny square kids blanket and 2 purses to finish. I forgot to mention, I have 1 slanted shell blanket (I am just learning that stitch yesterday). Wow😮

I had the same yarn dilemma. So I invested in the color cubes by Sarah Renae Clark. She has an amazing system of inspirational color cards that give you so many inspiring ways of putting unexpected colors together. I highly recommend it.

My Dad was a Assistant Manager at Woolworth's. I used to love the smell of Woolworth's. They and Kresge's were the 5 and dime stores. I always wondered why Kresge's never really had the same smell. When Woolworth's brought out their new Woolco Department stores, he became management in one of those and we had to move to Nashville. If that hadn't happened, I would never have my best friend of nearly 50 yrs to this day!
Like you I lost over 100 lbs over the last year. When the Boggy Creek blankets were brought to my attention I started tearing down all the wpo’s that were going to be too big. Yarn harvesting at home t’s best. I was able to get 4 BCB’s out of the tear down 🤗💜💜
I haven’t purchased any yarn in a year. I miss color I am down to black and white.
I only work on one or two projects at a time. I make blankets for my local Project Linus chapter. Mostly, I use Bernat Blanket and Premier Yarns Puzzle for those blankets.
