If anyone here is a supporter of Mr. James Workshop or a member of their Inquisition, bear in mind Brother Samuel's main point. You.. Charge... Too... Much.
Right now every "entertainment" oriented company is banking on "whales" to make the lion's share of the revenue. And that's even more problematic since "whales" aren't the richest consumers but those with spending problems and poor impulse control. And yet that's exactly what kills all hobbies in the long run. If a kid can't afford to build one army over a year of pocket money then there won't be any new players to play with😢
@@guardsmen2945 Yep, he just had a new one as well. Really easy for beginners. His method is what I have done for years, those first two variables are generally all you need.
FYI - The "discontinued" Kill Team proxies you printed are of the Elucidian Starstriders. GW is currently revamping how they sell their Kill Teams, incl. new packaging and branding, so the OG ones may return in the future.
For the price GW charges they should be already painted and assembled. I remeber getting metal pre painted figures for less then they charge for plasic things you need to paint and put together.
3:05 I'm not so sure how much the resin has to do with supports, I mean it definetly plays a role but I'd credit the easy removal of supports to Station Forge's amazing presupports. I've had an amazing experience printing their TF2 themed Orks, where just like in this video, the supports came off so incredibly easy, I thought it would always be this way. Unfortunately that wasn't the case with other sculptors out there 😂
I've said it once, I'll say it again. It's not the cost that prevents people from resin printing, it's the mess and Health hazards. Companies need to start focusing on closed loop printing with minimal resin handling rather than print quality if they want resin printing to go main stream
Eh, there's a charm to "gatekeeping". While yes, if "EvErYoNe" could 3d print simply "out of the box", it'd change several industries and the way we acquire products. But like i said, there's a "charm" to "barrier to entry" that gives certain activities some level, even if minor, of prestige.
Dont worry at some point Printers will be a closed System and we will start to hate them just like all the inkjet printers we hate😂 Besides that, the resin handeling is just one part, the other waaaay bigger issue is that the resin is a huge environmental issue as well. I saw so many examples of people just pouring the resin and isopropanol down the drain...
nice and interesting video but what i am missing is the cost comparison at the end. IE how much for the printer, electricity, time and the resing compared to buying the teams. then it would be more plausible to choose either way.
Can confirm, the krieg proxies in the video are fantastic to print. Good pre-supports, and are honestly easier to assemble than the GW kits due to the numbering (and a print error in the GW instructions)
Been watching for a while and decided to pull the trigger on a printer. Hoping things go well cause the only thing for 40K I’ve printed was an fdm imperator.
Advice. Take things slow, allocate plenty of time for post processing so you dont rush, that way you can be careful with the material until you're acquainted with the process. I also recommend a little bit more investment in an isolation box (a grow tent), and a ventilation system to outside from that box. It'll give you peace of mind from the toxic fumes, and make the process less "chemistry lab".
Don't want it to be messy ? Then don't be lazy and organize your printing space and dedicate enough time for the post processing of your prints. Temperature is key, prints will fail below 20°C so having a heating system can be necessary if you put your printer in a cold space like a garage (or print in the summer and paint in the winter, you'll have a big backlog quickly lol). And please, don't be a beggar for free stl files and take the time to search artists that you like, there's plenty of them on My Mini Factory and they make regular sales during the year if you want to purchase a lot. If you print full plate, you'll quickly have a lot of minis so it can be interesting to develop your painting skills since you have a practically infinite amount of minis to practice with.
I wouldn't say no on how to calibrate the GK2 Pro. I have the the GK2 and am still unsure that its at where it should be when it comes to its settings.
From personal experience, my guess would be around 10-11. $123AUD (plus shipping) is four-five times more expensive than what I'm currently using, and I have dropped several models no to minimal damage.
OK, Please don't take this personally, this is feedback meant to be helpful: Your audio for this video is *super* muddy. I could barely make out what you're saying. Please, for your channel, look at trying to fix that. You need to adjust your audio mix. At first I thought the problem way my end, checked, no, I'm using my actual speakers, not my laptop speakers. Then checked against other videos. Perfectly fine. So I'm very confident its the audio in your video (and I checked, I'm hearing the original, English audio, not one of the UA-cam AI dubs.)
Is that automatic dispenser easy to clean when changing resins? I'd go with cheaper not-so-brittle resin (last two, Copymaster3D standard and Anycubic water washable + have been fine) as primer will cover it in the same way, gloss or matte. Curing time may also affect brittleness. If proxies are fine and allowed, why 3D-print them? Write their name on cardboard tag on and save 100% of the cost 😉 If one already has resin printer and can get models free / cheap, economy should work out. Just make sure the models are _free-range models_ (legitimate and don't infringe copyrights or rip from other designers, GW or not) 🤔 If you counted work from all similar steps: designing, manufacturing, selling - in addition to required materials and equipment, I doubt you could go much below GW prices without sacrificing your profit?
My buddy gave me a bottle to print out Old World Dwarfs that are 1:1 copy. He said to use the whole bottle..I was never so sick of seeing Dwarfs in my damn life.
I had done the same thing personally. I have printed several Artisan Guild sets, all of Highlands, and a I think Titan Forge. Soo many… little… angry… beardlings…
1:1 copies as in scans ? There's so much talented artists out there that make great Dawi that I fail to understand why someone would print scans of old sculpts. Check out Highlands Miniatures, Titan Forge Miniatures, Avatars of War, Kurpa Miniatures, Dragon's Lake Miniatures and many more
@@spuriusligustinus4509 If you like the old sculpts why not? I have printed alot of Highlands and even paid for a few AG sets even though I could have got them for free. I guess you could wonder why people would print 1:1 Ultra Marines when proxies are available.
@jebstuart1323 I didn't factor the nostalgia angle. Well at least you don't get harpooned by GW lol. And I do print Ultramarines lol but I went the swag route and chose the most space Romans/highly adorned sculpts I found
might be cheating but you can drive this number way higher by printing custodes compendium teams. 4 custodes (sword+shield or spear) = 1 compedium rules kill team ;)
Cones of calibration from tableflip foundry is a vastly superior calibration test to the tests you used in this video. There is no guessing, its very clear which exposure time gives you the best dimensiomal accuracy, and which exposure time gives the best support formation and strength.
I'm sure it's excellent resin, but for the price of one bottle I can print four times more models with normal resin, and even not I am not that clumsy x)
Before I watch the video, did you calculated the price for the printer per figurine and power and your own work time? (always question yourself how much hard cash are you worth per hour!!!) After that I would guess that it is still cheaper to buy.
