The gap between any two board meetings is 120 days, or its just about the board meetings in one calendar year.
Suppose, the last meeting in the calendar year is 28th Dec'2018, the next one would be having a gap of 120 days, or this gap provision is only for that particular calendar year in purview.
and what if the company follows Financial year in this case?
Would the answer change? if Yes, then why

Dear sir, there is a query
Section 173(1) says that the gap between two board meetings within a year shouldn't exceed 120 days
My question is, the word 'year' in the section is calendar year or financial year.
MCA mentions 'year' only
whereas Its calendar year according to the Secretarial Standard -1 -(2.1)-frequency of meeting
Request you to enlighten on the same

Yes you are right! It's applicable only to Private Companies.
Extract from the Bare Act read along with notification issued
In case of Private Company - Sub-Section (3) of Section 174 shall apply with the exception that the interested director may also be counted towards quoram in such meeting after disclosure of his interest pursuant to section 184." - Notification Dated 13th June, 2017.
