  • It is the 31st century. Mankind has spread to the stars and spawned titanic stellar empires, each controlling hundreds of worlds across a thousand light years and beyond. Yet the sins of man have followed him from the cradle of humanity.
Political machinations of feudal lords plunge whole sectors into war; unscrupulous merchant starship captains smuggle weapons to their own faction's enemies; greedy military commanders demand tribute from worlds they're protecting; animalistic pirate kings harvest high technologies and human slaves in lightning raids; betrayals from oath-bound allies leave honorable soldiers growing cold on forgotten worlds; death at the tip of knife from a concubine turned assassin to avenge a world and love lost: it is a time of war.
What empire will you swear allegiance to: a warrior merchant of House Steiner; the honorbound samurai of House Kurita; the vat-bred warriors of the Clans; a mercenary that fights only for the highest bidder?
Choose your life in the universe: a MechWarrior piloting the thirty-foot-tall BattleMechs that turn the tide of any battle; a spy deep behind enemy lines discovering critical secrets; a merchant carrying critical supplies; a scientist unleashing the latest cutting edge technologies?
How will YOU become a legend?

I've been a Battletech addict since i tried it back in 86!
I am one of those people that actually bought the fluff only source books happily!
Mechwarriors tend to wear as little as possible, since mech cockpits tend to be sauna's!
    Taurian Concordant 4 LIFE!
Down with Comstar, Federated Suns and the Capellan Concordant!
Battletech has the best fluff of any game, but most FASA games had superb fluff!

Ahh, thought it was just an "artistic" choice for the Mech Pilot, good to know there's a lore consistent reason for bikini babes :D
As I mentioned in the video I got into Battletech back when I was 16-18 or so, and really enjoyed it, but kind of drifted away. And when my mum asked me to donate some games to my cousin, Battletech was sadly one of those I gave away. I've go friends who have really gotten back into it recently, but I just haven't had a chance to play, but it sounds like it's just as much fun as it always was.

@@RPGGamer A lot depends on what time period you play in, 3025 was the original, but as time clicked on, there were so many upgraded version of the old weapons and different versions , along with some new weapons! i love the 30 25 period, but usually stop after the 3050 Clan Invasion!

@@RPGGamer Well its a great time to come back. Their kickstarters have been massively successful. Also yeah depending on time period, tech base, and basically how affordable stuff is to your group; you could be wearing sleek battle suits like Pacific Rim while Mech jockeying or stripped down in your undies while your ride overheats every couple of hours.

Same, but I was Pro-Comstar way before it was popular to like Comstar. Was the first game I spent my hard earned cash on. So many lawns. Military bases are a gold mine of unmowed lawns or tired military people that are willing to pay anything for a kid to do it instead.

A Time of War, that game has been sitting in my game shelf for about a decade now, and it has never hit the table. It's the crunch that kills it for me, there are so many rules for stuff and so much crunch that I just can't get through the core rulebook, and this comes from someone who has more books for Shadowrun than any other system.

Totally agree about the crunch. While I really appreciate what they were trying to do, personally I hate any game where I have to keep going back to tables and charts, and the modifiers in this game I think would force you to do that, although perhaps the more common ones you'd begin to memorise.

there are 5 distinct role-playing games for battletech. Mechwarrior 1st ed, 2nd ed, 3rd ed, a time of war and Destiny. the Mechwarrior rpg was released by FASA Corp. the A time of war and Destiny RPGs were released by CGL.
IMO - any RPG that is used in conjunction with a larger scale war game, should have characters and skills that are directly interchangeable. if you need to do ANY conversion of stats/skills, to switch between the game formats, that is a game design fail!
that said, only one version of the RPG meets that goal. the FASA 2nd ed Mechwarrior RPG uses a 2D6 rules system and skill values that transfer directly between the RPG and the standard battletech war game. thus, a single character can drive a tank into a base. steal a mech and then battle to escape. no conversion of rules or game mechanics.
2nd ed Mechwarrior rpg is also the most supported. dozens of sourcebooks and adventures published.
per a recent interview with CGL, there are no plans to produce any support material for either 'a time of war' or the brand new 'Mechwarrior:Destiny'. that tells me that those versions are "dead games". if the company is no longer supporting the product, and it doesn't mix with the existing game(s), why get it!?!

Good points, I think a key point of a Battletech game should be integration with Battletech itself. What's the point of using the universe if you ignore the main part of it.

So MW2nd Edition is your pick for Battletech rpg right?

      @bruced648 Місяць тому +1

@scotteverroad4545 IMO, it's the better version for RPG rules.
but try each of them for yourself, you may prefer one of the others.

I love Battletech but it has always been a hybrid of rpg and wargame. As a hybrid wargamer/role-player myself I like the extra depth to the battles & campaign that characterisation brings. Unfortunately, it is not easy to find players interested in both. I wish the games well - it looks well-designed and I'll probably buy it at some stage. I'm interested in how the game flows when played and would like to see a play-testing or review on this.

I've done a Rules Breakdown, and while I appreciate what they were trying to do with the rules, I do find it a bit of a clunky system, where I think you'd constantly be looking up the tables for the modifiers plus and minus for every skill roll.

@@RPGGamer If you want something Battletech and less clunky, you should take a look at Mechwarrior: Destiny
