Dude your a great dad. Not only did you make your girls day showing her she could make a fire. But you've taught her that perseverance pays off. Thats the kind of parenting we need more of. Keep up the good work.

The striker is a corona brand tool sharpener with a custom Handel. Very cool idea because you can fix up your hawk or knife in the field, not to mention a striker. Love it.

on a real note, you should get a medal of honor for teaching the wolf pup so well. we need more of this. the lack of teaching of these kind of skills is why we are all struggling to learn now. we lost that tradition of passing this knowlage from generation to generation when we discovered oil, and electricity. life became to easy. we forgot how to struggle. and forgot that we still needed to teach our kids how to survive. you broke that circle, and I hope to see others do so as well.

These are lessons i want for my 2 daughters to give sometime. I think that basic ''survival'' skills, orientation skills, animal aware skills etc, are necessary qualities a small kid must aquire -prefferably at an early age. Our world isn't so nice, and when i see the vast amount of refugees in my country, i can't stop thinking that maybe some day i''ll be in their condition and must survive, me and my family... Many congrats!

I loved this. I love how you have your little girl out teaching her stuff about the outdoors and bonding with her. these days all kids do is watch tv and play video games . when I was a kid we would get off the school bus and would be outside playing until dark. Great job Kayleigh! This is an awesome testament to the product that Joe has produced. We tend to test our skills and equipment under the best of conditions. But in the dead of winter, when it's snowing and you've just fallen out of your canoe, your motor skills will certainly be compromised to say the least. In those circumstances, it may be almost impossible to use those tiny strikers that come with the average ferro rod. I'd rather rely on something that even a seven year old can use.

Now...that's what it's all about. A bit of patience and practice and encouragement! That's some parental skills of high quality. It doesn't make a bit of difference if a kid used up 50 ferro rods and 10 strikers! The important thing is she has learned to keep trying. Before long, she'll be in charge of firecraft, and dad will know that if she applies this lesson she can accomplish most anything. Teach em HOW TO HANDLE FRUSTRATION. EXCELLENT VIDEO! She did great!
