Karnan is like a poem ,full and fully organic it is .Not can beat it's personification, metaphor
Superb ah sonninga. Kantara vs karnan. Unexpected review. Karnan movie oru pan India movie ah irunthu irukanum. Caste based movie ah mathitanga.
My honest rating for Kantara: 30/100 marks
Positives:
1. Casting
2. First 15 minutes
3. Emotional scene when the brother of the protagonist passes away.
4. Climax(after the fight scenes)
Negatives:
1. A lot of unnecessary commercials elements.
2. Cliche storyline with a awful screenplay.
3. Climax fight is too overrated imo( seems like the climax of Kanchana movie with the cultural aspect added).
4. Cinematography could have been better.
5. Women objedification.
6. A lot of scenes coming next can be guessed easily.
7. Very slow and boring at certain scenes.
Overall I am dissatisfied with this movie given the critical acclaim by critics and audiences. I was expecting it to be something like karnan Tamil movie but in the end it didn't lived up to my expectations.
What i liked the most how you appreciated both movies and not trying to portray one is better than the other. Kudos bro.

Yes there are a lot of similarities between both the movies. Karnan definitely gave me much more impact than kantara. In fact, kantara didn't give any impact at all. Maybe because they made it in a very commercial way. Of course you won't see God coming directly on someone to save a whole village in real life.

Kantara is sanghi based melodramatic masala movie, they added a lot of masala elements and spices to keep the audience engaged that ruined the immersion and the writing at places felt a bit less mature, while karnan is unadulterated and artistically crafted raw depiction of oppression and how rage could also be used to being justice, karnan would easily shit over kantara in any universe

Big reason kantara success is not story, but all other thing screenplay, cinematography,music,actors efforts in spiritual scenes

Seems like you are downgrading the efforts of those worked in karnan movie. Karnan had a very good screenplay. cinematography, music and acting too. Atleast karnan team didn't do a cheap copy of music from another band. And also I've seen so many movies that give much more goosebumps than those first and last 15 mins scenes from kantara. Stop overhyping it. Many people who watch the movie recently seem to be disappointed with it because the movie is too much overhyped.

Happened to watch Kantara after long time on Vijay TV. First and foremost the reason the movie didn't work for me is, the villagers not shown enough as oppressed by the Achyuth Kumar and co. In fact they are shown as fighting against forest officers. Although, finally the forest officers were in the side of villagers, it's not convincingly shown they were with them from the beginning.
Let it be a fictitious story, however the Panchurulis disappearance and becoming a god in the wild doesn't make sense.

Both movies had similarities, yes. But Karnan was treated more and more politically and caste discrimination was a major driving point whereas Kantara had a strong hold with gods protecting the nature and his/her people. Kantara too had scenes depicting the discrimination and it was subtle and didn't politicize it or dilute the story. I agree Karnan was based on real incidents. But while making a movie, the driving force of it should be more engaging rather than just politicizing and Karnan missed that engaging factor a bit. Kantara had me connected to it with its screenplay. Also, Kantara wasn't against a sect of people, just showed the reality and wasn't demeaning an entire group eventhough some of them were cruel. Karnan had to kill Kannabiran apparently and also demonized other groups of people which was absolutely needless in my opinion🤷. If that's said as Director's vision, fair enough and that's where I think a movie shouldn't be over politicized.
Both movies are good, but if one has to be chosen, Kantara for its soulful connect👍

If you feel Kantara has political motive, Karnan has 10 times more than what Kantara has. Karnan um discrimination pathi solluchu, Karnan um solluchu. Which is more Artistic? The one which doesn't politicize and focussed more on what it had to convey or The one which politicised a way too much. Slow a irundhale art padam aagidadhu brother. The synergistic function of various departments and the way scenes are constructed make a film artistic
@@deva224 yes anything that irrationally forces worshipping elements and especially 'varam' is inclining towards a sanghi side, and of course with sanghi agenda it is very clear it is inclined towards a politicized drama, masala is not just about fight, it's also about adding exaggerated emotions and overacting, with forced emotions to instigate the audience to cry, a concept or a scene should naturally translate the emotion of the movie in which kantara failed in being explicitly conveying emotions and music, this way kantara is less mature in terms of writing compared to karnan

That too is Sanghi? Don't attach God beliefs to Sanghis and BJP and gain mileage for them. To believe in God is one's own wish and calling out him/her as Sanghi is also discrimination
