He played this at Michael Hutchence's funeral. Best lyrics ever.

I find that people either "get" Nick Cave or they don't, I love just about everything he does, but I have friends who wouldn't listen to even one song, this baffles me. So when I go to a concert, I pay for my ticket and just go. afterwards, someone will say "you should have asked, I would have gone with you", but I'd rather be on my own enjoying every moment than go with someone who felt sorry for me being alone, as if!

nick is the definition of a paradoxical human being
he belongs up there with the greatest musical poets of all time Leonard Cohen, John Prine and Bob Dylan
    keep going :)
    thank Rory ♡

*Rory.* Thank you 😊 Such a wonderful reaction to this heartbreakingly beautiful song ♥️ It leaves me gutted every time I hear it. You feel every word, and get the sense that he is deeply spiritual, if not religious. His music focuses a lot on darkness vs light, good vs. evil. And that piano accompaniment here is everything - simple and perfect.
He wrote this after his brief but intense relationship with PJ Harvey and the breakup with his first wife. He's a complicated man. As you listen to more of him (folky goth punk burlesque 😄) you'll come across other emotional ballads amid all the darkness, but I think this one is the most powerful. ♥️ I hear a lot of Leonard Cohen's influence in his writing, and to me his work is just as profound. Thanks again for checking it out and sharing your thoughts 🤗

You’re right! It’s a psalm to Love. It’s lovely to watch you fall in love with his work. Jubilee Street (live) has INCREDIBLE piano. It’s cool to see him now in his mid-60’s. He’s more powerful than ever. Find a live version of White Elephant from this year or last. He just keeps getting better. I love what you have to say about his music - thank you!

Fantastic, So happy you are discovering Nick Cave. This was from the album The boatsman's Call, which also has some more great tunes on - Idiots Prayer / (Are you) the one that i've been waiting for? / People ain't no good - which if you have watched Shrek 2 you might recognise...Keep up the great work.

If you listen closely , and remember that different people have different perspectives on religion, the song has a bigger meaning.
You have a man that’s god fearing , but also doesn’t think god ever intervene in ways that we can actually measure . And when he died , This is sort of his love letter to the one he left behind. Saying that yes , he believes in god, no he doesn’t think that changes anything , but also that he knows his lover does believe it. And it’s the love between them that would change his whole perspective , just so he could see her again. Powerful stuff
You could almost say it’s akin to the old saying “there’s no atheist in a foxhole “ how when we are all close to the end, close to losing everything we love, we always turn to a higher power to save us from losing it all.
