I’m a year in with my loc journey and I’m guilty of neglecting my locs😔 I’ve started to see them get dry over the last two months. I was very uneducated when I started my locs. I thought my hair would just grow since it was locced up😭 I’m starting to do more research though and I’m improving 🤎 Thank you for this video. Very helpful!
I love doing my hot oil treatments every time I wash, which is once a month. Then I'll spritz with aloe vera juice, distilled water, olive oil, black seed oil, emu oil. During the week as needed.
Hi I'm just a few months locd and I'm learning everyday. I just wanted to know if you use a hooded dryer when doing your hot oil treatment? Thanks alot. Trying to get the healthiest routine for my locs.
@@profe929 my opinion is not to use a dryer. You can put on a wave cap or a shower cap and let the heat from your head do it. You don't want to bake it in and please don't wash out the treatment. The oils need to stay until your next wash. No need to go to a store and get a bunch of products. All that the lady is saying you can make at home. UA-cam it. You will be so surprised how easy and less expensive it is.
My locs were dry because I color treated them and then moved to the dessert where it was bone DRY😓 I noticed that as my hair got older it needed more and more care It’s gotten better now that I’ve started spraying with aloe juice and essential oils and have reincorporated hot oil treatments into my wash routine. Love your point about using what works for you not just what works for your favorite guru! Thanks for sharing
I love rose water...and I have castor, Grapeseed oil and essential oils (lavender, rosemary and lemon grass) on my scalp directly...then run it through my hair (on wash days...which can be 3 weeks in between)... But I do rinse my hair when I shower if I do it in the morning instead of at night so I don't have a wet bed head.
How do you dry your hair thoroughly if your locs are thick and long without getting dread rot? My problem is I love love love water all day everyday and this time around I'm trying to avoid that problem
@@Blessed2SeeTomorrowI can't read all of your reply for some reason but will do my best to answer. My locs are only just to my shoulder at the back but thickness is the same as yours. After squeezing water out I wrap them in a microfiber towel for about 1/2 hour - get dressed and do makeup. Then air dry. Those towels are SUPER absorbent xx
Save your money and make it yourself. You can get some rose peddles out of your yard and buy some distilled water put in a pot bring to a boil. Turn off stove let it sit. Water will turn light red. Boom rose water. Wild growth oil. Just get a bottle and add different oils in it including jojoba oil and vitamin E and boom wild growth oil.
Thanks for this! I have dyed and bleached locs. I make a spray mix of aloe, distilled water, rosemary and lavender essential oils, and a tiny bit of avocado oil. Then, I seal with Apricot oil mixed with a few essential oils. I wash weekly, and clarify and do steam treatments at least monthly. Drinking enough water helps very much as well.
I like to spritz with distilled water, put a very light amount of oil on my locs, then brush the locs (not my new growth)! This has been very nice in the softness of my locs!
6:41 did it for me. Great video...I use Jamaican Mango and Lime hair spray -though it reduces itchy scalp I'm concerned about the mineral oil + sodium chloride in it.
Needed this video. I got so busy I washed once every 2 months and just spray oil & water every other day. My locs are starting to feel like hay. I know better so I’m doing better.
I need a retwist, I wet my locs often. But i notice when I go to my loctician once every 3 months, she moisturize my hair and it looks great for a month, then it draws up and reaches for the sky. I use a durag and a handmade yarn skully on top. 4-5 inches now.
When I started my locs about 5 months ago, My scalp was so itchy and dry. I found that Design Essential’s Tea tree & Aloe w/peppermint oil worked. Now that it’s summer, I don’t have to apply it as often. And I switched my pillow case to a satin one. My hair loves water, so that and coconut oil is my weekly my regimen.
I use the aloe/ peppermint oil to retwist because my scalp is very sensitive and other oils just irritate it. It does give a soft hold but it does last until I wash it.
I had that issue just last week. I had to wash my hair and oil my scalp, i ran out of my oils. Smh but aside from that i haven't been wearing my silk bonnet at night and i don't drink water often. But now im starting back on my regimen and i just retwisted my locs so they're getting back to how they were before.

I've been using aloe vera juice, water, and a mix of jojoba oil, coconut oil and some other essential oils together as a moisturizer and I only do it once in the morning and im busy working until the evening. But I've had some breakage over the past 6 months and my hair sucks water and oil up! Do you have any ideas or suggestions I should try?
Perfect timing! My hair is super dry and crunchy allll the time. Currently using water and an oil mixture and it’s not working. Thank you for the tips and product suggestions!
Also when washing your hair and or retwisting let it air dry instead of a dryer. You must put a loc sock on your hair at night. The natural heat from your head will moisturize your hair. Also be careful of the shampoo your using on your hair. It can dry it out. Be mindful of what you use to retwist. Anything that has alcohol in it will dry your hair out. You can retwist with rose water and oil.
It will only give you Mildew or breakage if your hair tends to retain water for too long, which is why it’s important to know if you have low/high porosity hair. I’ve been air drying for 9 years. My hair is fine & it’s flourishing. 😁
I’ve been using water and grape seed oil spray for a while but sometimes it’s still dry lol but the growth has been good compared to using heavy products like the Rasta spray.
I've been using aloe vera, almond oil and avocado oil and I co-wash 2t times a month. Shampoo drys my scalp out more. I want to know what I can you to help my locs be softer. Would a hot oil treatment be good for Puerto Rican Hair 🤷🏻♀️
My hair drinks water and oil like yours as well. I’ve been wetting/drenching them in the shower daily after my workout... will this cause any issues in the long run?
This video was helpful my hair has always soaked up moisture even before locs so now that I'm a year and some change in, my locs always feel dry even when I mist and oil it.
