There are so many stories here that have already been told long ago, and are already long forgotten. This was my high school hang, and my first “official” job was here. Dollar Zone clerk at 16 in 2000. Even then it was starting to struggle. When I was a kid in the 90s it was still going strong. There was lots of foot traffic, many upscale retailers like higher end jewelry kiosks and such. It was a lot like the mall in Stranger Things, only single level. Thanks for covering it.
Your welcome and I hope something benefiting the community is done with this mall. I would love to see what they are doing at Lafayette square happen here
That Golden Coral is gone, Dick’s is also gone. Washington Square used to be great. It had Lazarus, LS Ayers, Sears, and JC Penney back in the day. It also had Old Navy, The Gap, Victoria’s Secret, GNC…pretty much all the normal stores you’d see at a good mall. I worked at Vitamin around 2001-2002. Really sad to see it decline so much.
I'm ca n remember each each one of the concourses and every store back when WS was thriving.Everything from Ponderosa to that really cool McDonald's in rhe old Sears wing that was divided into like 4 different time eras .Just so many memories at this mall
I worked at Washington Square Mall in a Dollar Store named Everything Dollar from 1993 till 1996, when they went banktupt. The mall during those years was still doing well. Lot's of majot stores and lots of people. The mall had everything that a mall would have to attract customers and mall walkers. It's sad the way the mall went. I'm not sure what is keeping it afloat at this point.
@@bakerdaniels003 what I can’t figure is they went to all the trouble to make surveys asking mall patrons what they’re like to see in the mall. I took the survey and had great input. Unfortunately it looks like they never planed to use any of those surveys to improve the mall and attract more customers.
From what I hear the people who own that mall and I’m not sure if that’s true or not or just only using it as a way I launder money. I have a couple friends who still work at the post office told me that when they deliver the mail there they get a very ominous feeling. Like something is definitely up and not right.
I use to work at Ponderosa which was over where Target is now! It’s just sad how things changed I went there to see my coworkers at Ponderosa and it was closed my friends all gone! Fond memories but very sad!
My hometown of carmel had a in mall target too and a popcorn store a ninja weapons store and a toy store and a tcby all sadly gone now it was the woodland mall before they put in the awful merchants square mall.
@@TiltedTripodMediaNo, the Target at Washington Square(Indianapolis) isn't going anywhere. It's still open, and this location EVEN got a remodel within one of the last few years of the early 2020s.
@BoratWanksta this is one of the city's best designed targets. They even seem to have items ive not see in other targets. Im headed there under a bit actually. I have noticed it seems scarcely staffed at times, but I hope they can turn that around.

1:48 - MCL, I remember going here before it shut down. It’s mid compared to its Castleton counterpart
Mcl is awesome. We have some here in Ohio.
All of Washington Street is going down. it spreads the ghetto from downtown to the East side... so sad. we need new leadership. Washington Scare Mall
That's not true.
I haven't been in Washington Sq since the early/mid 2000s.
You're not missing anything.
It was a Ruby Tuesdays
Does the target there still have neon inside or was it renovated recently?
Sorry I’m not sure as I haven’t been to that target in a while.
I could tell you why it’s closed but people that don’t believe in or want to hear the truth will get their feelings hurt.
@@mfrank3518 I already know why this and many malls are closed closing or will close. 👍
Why?
Target will be going out of business soon through their idiotic management.
Is that location set to close?
They're all going to be going out of business. Their stock is in free-fall mode.@@TiltedTripodMedia
