I really appreciate Brother Mike Heiser's willingness to follow God's leading against the status quo.
His dedication to that, despite the anticipated negative reaction of so many in the church, shows me his willingness to follow God at any cost.
    What an inspiration!
I thank God for him always 💛

    Q: Who is Mike Comfortable?
As I have a rare cancer, it looks like I'll be joining Dr. Michael S. Heiser and our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, any day now ~ either by death or the Rapture. As Dr. Heiser has been HOME since February 20, 2023, I'm sure he knows his way around heaven and has his theology 100% correct by now. I plan to be in the front row of his 1st teaching session in a few days.

The church I attend, I would consider to be fundamental Baptist.
I was called to join a church from my reading of scripture, and I'm very glad that I'm involved.
My baseline criteria, which was met, is preaching the gospel with expository sermons, The Great commission, the acknowledgement of Christ as God in the flesh, and Satan as being an actual spiritual being, the reality of heaven and hell. And the big one is salvation through faith and grace alone.

tough list. Hard to find any place that has it all. I've been looking too. I don't think members grow by dumbing down a sermon or message or trying to make it sound "contemporary". I believe the Holy Spirit can do the work of bringing enlightenment. Wish pastors would challenge their congregations more. As a baby Christian, my solid Christian friends and acquaintances wasted no time in serving up a little meat. Though it did take me some time to fully understand where they were coming from.

@@kristenspencer9751 Agreed, and it's sad to say that it is hard to find a solid Church holding to these very basic Christian core principles. I travel about 30 minutes to get to my Church. I was willing to double that if necessary. Seek and you shall find. And, there's also the option of at least finding a local home based bible study that meets regularly if you can't find a good Church. I have to admit that if it weren't for the Word of God and the Holy spirit, it would be unlikely that I would have sought out a Church. Now that I have, I fully understand why God wants that for us. There's no substitute for gathering in person for learning the Word, corporate prayer and worship as well as the family fellowship I've gained in a whole bunch of like minded brother and sisters in Christ Jesus who are praying for one another.

CS Lewis said that Christianity is like a hallway with a bunch of different rooms (denominations) and the most important thing is just being in the hallway. However, a sign of maturity as a believer is finding out which room you fit best in and going in there. Excessive denominational loyalty is a negative, but so is the free-floating, "non-denominational" culture of America. This leads to people into heresies, such as dispensationalism.

Biblical Christianity is not like that at all, because this foolish assumption proposes that Christ came bearing thousands of contradicting gospels and doctrines. The Bible says He came bearing _1_ correct gospel and _1_ correct set of doctrines. In Gal. 1, Paul can even be seen emphatically pronouncing a double curse on whoever teaches anything that is contrary to that gospel and set of doctrines.

I currently attend a "cowboy church" that has active, caring, Christian people who are deeply involved in the community and work to minister to the local needs. Due to my work ive moved around and always done rotating shift work so haven't been to church for many years. But with technology and platforms like utube, i prefer to get information and bible studies from a variety of sources. I think it gives me a better understanding of the bible than if i went to one church and was learning one particular view. Also reading other peoples questions in the comments that many probably wouldn't ask at church. I guess it comes down to individuals where some people really need the group companionship and support. Myself, Im abit of a loner anyway. Maybe my work has made me this way, but i can do bible study whenever i want and choose different subjects as well as dive deep on certain things. Please consider attending church. What did all the believers do on Sunday in the book of Acts? They broke bread on the first day of the week (worshiped the Lord as a group). In one passage I recall, Paul attends a home worshiping God preaching from morning to evening. A young man (boy?) falls asleep (Paul speaking for hours tired the lad out lol) and falls to his death 3 stories down. But Paul runs to him and the lad rises! Then Paul proceeded to preach the gospel the rest of the evening into the morning hours..

Sustained periods without Christian community found my faith walk markedly strained, so much so that I once burst into tears with the opening hymn at the first Sunday service I had been able to attend in months. I remember it was Easter. Fast forward decades later, the pandemic was another wakeup call. Churches try to adapt, but livestream just isn't the same. The church that I would attend, would have to take every word of scripture as being God breathed, and use those words to continually draw closer to the perfection that God requires of us. So despite all being at different stages of our individual walk along THE WAY, somebody has to lead, and others follow. If the leader of a church or religion or faith is not continually learning and allowing Gods Word to change their minds, then they cannot be Christians.
There is a distinct difference between what is written in scripture (Greek, Aramaic, Hebrew) and what people 'think' is written in a translation of those ancient texts.
For example people will often quote Romans 3 as a reason for not abiding by Gods Law, and yet when confronted with the last verse of Romans 3( :31Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Certainly not! Instead, we uphold the law.), they will refuse to allow Gods Word to change their minds, because they think they already KNOW!
I have christians say, "I'm no longer under the Law" as an excuse for their disobedience of God's Law, when Christi clearly preached that we have to be ABOVE THE WRITTEN LETTER OF THE LAW. So whilst we may not be under the written Law of Adultery, we are under the Spiritual intent of the Law that goes above and beyond physical intercourse with someone other than your husband/wife - it's even thinking about sex with another person that breaks the Spiritual intent of the Law.
At each stage of Gods revelation to mankind, we are being held to a higher standard than the previous revelation. This means that Christians MUST BE ABOVE THE WRITTEN LAW, and subject to the SPIRITUAL INTENT OF THE LAW AT EVERY SECOND OF LIFE!
There aren't many churches who are prepared to go to this level of dedication, as most are happy to just gather some tithes and offerings on any given sunday, whilst others insist upon Saturday, whilst both ignore Gods Calendar of Gen 1:14. WHy do supposedly Christians churches ignore Gods Calendar? Well because of populism..... people vote with their wallets, not with their heart. People seek acceptance for their mediocrity, rather than seek truth and the company of those who would encourage them towards perfection of righteousness.

    • @markdouglas8073

Christians are NOT under the Law. And why do you presume they are using that as an excuse to sin? You are actually guilting of judging others. There are New Testament boundaries for church discipline, but they do NOT include things like sabbath keeping, temple worship, keeping the Passover, or Leverite marriage. Circumcision is specifically addressed as something Gentiles need not do-and it stands for all of the Law. Usually those who want to argue like you that OT Law is for non-Jews are concerned especially about sexual sins, but the New Testament teaches that we are to flee fornication, idolatry, etc. Jesus made it clear that the Church was to “teach them to obey all that I have commanded you” starting with love one-another and all the other things Jesus said. He fulfilled the Law already for humanity and now offers everybody, including Jews, salvation by grace through faith, not by works, or keeping the Law, but by grace through faith in Christ’s atonement instead.

@@delawarecop The Church was not born until the coming of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2. That is literally the start of the Church Age, but everyone present in that narrative are Jews. It would not be until Paul became the Apostle to the Gentiles and they started being added to the Church, and the Jerusalem Council was held (recorded later in Acts) that the Apostles agreed on the relationship of the Law to the Church. Christians are freed from the Law.

    • @delawarecop
      @delawarecop 10 місяців тому

@@markdouglas8073 - "Christians are freed from the Law."
Nope! They are freed from the handwritten law of moses on parchment by ink. More directly those laws refer to how a sinner can make themselves justified by Blood Sacrifice to have their sins covered. It covered the design and layout of a Tabernacle or Temple, and the role of the Priesthood, sacrificial services and tithes for the levites who were not given any inheritance of land.
Nobody on earth has ever been freed from the Commandments of God because they describe what SIN actually is. If you were freed from those laws, then you would have no sin and no need for a Savior - such a doctrine dismisses the need for a Messiah so it is self contradicting.
So when Jesus came, He not only expressed the need to OBEY GODS COMMANDMENTS, (rich young ruler) but gave us a greater depth of their spiritual significance - Thou shall not commit Adultery, has now become, Thou shall not even commit Adultery in your mind by lusting secretly. You see the Jews found a way to circumvent the letter of the Law to nullify Gods Commandment. Instead of committing Adultery, they were merely paying a woman for a service, such that it was a business transaction. Evidence of this was given when the woman was taken before jesus being apparently caught in the very act of Adultery. The Deuteronomy law of Moses states that both Man & Woman must be presented for Judgement, yet the Jews only presented a woman because she was in fact a prostitute. Yet Jesus, perceiving this, pointed out the sins of the accusers, so that none of them became her Judge by throwing a stone. But at the end of the interaction He then said to her - GO SIN NO MORE!
So whilst you are no longer under those Mosaic Laws, the 10 Commandments were not a product of Moses, but of God. Those same Laws were known by both Cain & Abel, which is why they were offering sacrifices to God, yet God was displeased with Cains sacrifice. Cain knew it was wrong to be jealous of his brother, and he knew it was a sin to kill his brother, as he also knew that it was a SIN to lie to God. Cain knew all these things because mankind has known these Commandments long before Moses ever walked the earth.
If those Commandments weren't important today, then there would be no need to REPENT of SIN. Yet we read in Acts 17:30 So indeed God, having overlooked the times of ignorance, now commands all men everywhere to repent.
Note that this does not say Jews, Gentiles, Christians, it says ALL MEN EVERYWHERE, God Commands them to REPENT OF SIN. It means to put away those evil works of SIN and do only the GOOD WORKS OF FAITH. If you think that you can continue to SIN freely and willingly, then you will no doubt hear those words that Jesus uttered in Mat 7:22 ... "DEPART FROM ME YOU WHO BREAK GODS LAWS".
Jesus clearly defines what it means to become a BELIEVER or to BELIEVE in John 14:12 Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. Just as Jesus tells us what is required to receive the Holy Spirit in John 14:15 If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever

It's a sad commentary on his faith that he didn't understand the body of Christ -- the bride of Christ -- the gift that the covenant community is -- given to us believers by God. The fact is this: Heiser didn't want accountability. One of the marks of a true church is church discipline, and he didn't want to face that. How God must mourn that people like this are cruel to his gift to us.

That's very odd considering how soulish (intellectually carnal), unspiritual, and religious Puritans are. All their supposed spirituality is works of the flesh and not work/fruit of the Spirit. They don't even believe in the existence of the Holy Spirit of the Bible and their God is not the God of the bible--they are Calvinist idolators. Different God, different Jesus, different gospel, different spirit. They have no assurance so they work to prove they are of the elect--their trust is not in Christ but in their doctrines of demons. Puritans literally persecuted and murdered people everywhere they went and some went so crazy they killed themselves because they didn't know if they were of the elect or not--that's not the Spirit of Christ.
On the contrary Calvary Chapels are generally going to be charismatic light with the gifts of the Spirit tolerated but not really encouraged--can be a good stepping stone for those growing in their faith and hopefully teach them to be discerning enough that they don't get deceived by the counterfiets but walk in the Spirit and the gifts genuinely. The opposite can also happen though and people become so fearful of counterfeits they refuse to actually obey the Holy Spirit and follow the Spirit's leading and instead grow cold and more religious.

@@tannerfrancisco8759 woah.. youre views on both calvinists and puritans seens to be driven from a place of hatred . I may not be either calvinist or puritan but i see them falling under the umbrella of orthodoxy. In fact i agree with them on many things. GODS sovereignty, total deprivation, and i agree with the puritans on their church polity. You cannot take judge a whole denomination or religion based on the actions of some extremists in it. Look at their doctrine and does it align with scripture. I might disagree with calvinists and puritans on quite a few things i still call them brothers and sisters in CHRIST.
Now onto my church, calvary chapel. I believe we are very cautious and skeptical on the use of spiritual gifts especially in church as a very good thing. Those who focus too much on THE HOLY SPIRIT are either ignorant of HIS role or base their faith on spiritual sensuality. Things like being slain in the spirit, convulsing on the ground in spasmodic movements, interrupting church service by speaking in tongues or prophesying dont bring GOD any glory and isnt edifying for the church. We are told what THE HOLY SPIRITS role is in the book of john.
“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.”

@@tannerfrancisco8759 “For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy. For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I raised you up, to demonstrate My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed throughout the whole earth.” So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires. You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will?” On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, “Why did you make me like this,” will it? Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use? What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction? And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory,”

@@AreJay_ I speak from the Spirit of Truth out of love for your very soul. You are deceived. You don't understand enough to even have an opinion on the matter let alone judge them as righteous contrary to God Himself judging them as accursed (Gal 1:8-9).
If you agree with the Calvinists on those issues then you need either repent of your unbelief and believe the Bible or repent of your false religion, get saved, and receive Holy Spirit of Truth because there is no Holy Spirit in their doctrines--its a spirit of antichrist which maligns the character of God, denies Jesus is who He says He is, and blasphemes the Holy Spirit. If you cannot comprehend that from reading the bible then it's because you have ingrained demonic strongholds from false teaching you must first get rid of. If you are not capable of comprehending spiritual things, then it's because you don't have the Holy Spirit--you don't know Jesus and He does not know you.
Stop believing lying men and demons and start believing the God.
He knows your heart--that you trust your works.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Question: What denomination were the 3000 new Christians in Acts 2:41? Answer: They weren't a denomination; they were simply the Church. If you're a Christian who identifies as this denomination or that, you are in serious spiritual danger. Denominations are a demonic distraction. Obey Acts 2:38 and Mark 16:16, study your Bible, and do your best to live a Christian life. That's a good start.

I reject catholicism and orthodoxy because the Word of God has the authority, not men. I reject anglicanism/ecclesiasticism, because the elders of the congregation have the responsibility, not bishops. Jesus Christ is my bishop. I reject the calvinist, lutheran and Weslyan dogmas, which focus on divisive theology more than on God. I reject the baptist dogma on baptism. I reject pentecostalism for their dogmatic misinterpretation and misuse of the gift of speaking in tongues. I know tongues is a real thing, because I have experienced it, but I also recognise glossalalia when I hear it. I reject both the left and the right wing sects, and my politics are voluntrist libertarian.
So, a bible believing, protestant, presbyterian, non-dogmatic, non-charismatic, non-partisan, baptised, anointed, redeemed and liberated disciple of Jesus Christ. I was baptised, but as a proclamation, not as a cure, and I had received the baptism of the Holy Spirit before that ritual took place. This leaves me in the 'holiness' camp which isn't really a denomination. We have nezerenes, here, but they are very conservative and well to do. The salvation army has walked the walk for more than a hundred years now, and I'm a great admirer of their founder William Booth, who was a methodist, and I'm also a great admirer of John Wesley, who was a presbyterian, and I'm also a great admirer of John Knox, who was essentially Lutheran, and I do admire the stance Luther took. That's 500 years of spiritual growth if you ask me, and it seems like an ongoing process. The perfection of holiness no less! Who but The Father knew what THAT would look like in the days of pope pius III? Thankfully we've come a long way in our understanding of the witness and testimony of Jesus Christ. None of these denominations has everything straight and perfect yet, but praise God for their combined efforts over the ages, and I feel that I can meaningfully share bread and wine with any protestant Christian, hear something of value in any of their sermons, share something of our faith with anyone who has faith to share, and I can do God's work with anyone He sends into the field. In every fellowship I've attended there have always been people doing their best to obey the basic instructions. Feed the poor. Care for the sick. Bring peace. Spread the good news. Whether their denomination supports their efforts or not, they will not go un-noticed, and they shall have their reward, for obeying the Word of God. Fulfilling the great commission, and not merely following the traditions of men.

Great comment. What was your experience of speaking in 'tongues'?
It is my understanding that speaking in tongues is the gift of the Holy Spirit to speak in other languages, even though you do not know that language yourself, like the Apostles did. After all, "γλώσσα" means "language", so I believe that's all it is. I am open to other views of course.

They do seem to be decisive and plus their view on the millennium is so far off the mark but out of all the theological stances I’ve researched they’re the ones who elevate GOD to this highest possible place. Their view on HIS sovereignty is 🤌🏼💯🙏🏼 spot on. They miss the mark on other things but on that point they take the cake.

Yes @@SteliosMusic The supernatural ability to speak, or interpret other languages, which is rare, but well documented. There is more though, like the language of angels, the spiritual songs and prophetic utterances given to us in the Spirit and spoken in faith.
There are specific rules set out for these in 1Cor 14, so that all things may be done decently and in order, but sadly, many denominations indulge in what Paul rebukes the Corinthians for, and calls vain babbling. I've witnessed this often, mostly inpentecostal and charismatic/evangelical fellowships. I have also been present when beautiful spiritual songs have unexpectedly burst out of decidedly un-musical people, moving all who heard them. I've heard many tongues given, and most were accompanied by interpretations. I've never been given any myself, but I have received the interpretation of one. Three of us got up to share this interpretation and the first guy up said some vague uplifting words which were nothing to do with what I got. The next guy had almost exactly what I had. Not word for word, but the meanings were almost identical. It was specific advice and instruction to that fellowship about a project to buy a building and turn it into a spiritual retreat. This was not public knowledge, but we both got clear interpretations that we were to trust God's guidance, and that this purchase of property was not to be delayed.
