  • BALING STRAW (The Last Days of Wheat Harvest 2019).
    It took 10 days, but we FINALLY finished wheat harvest!
    For the majority of this crop, we dropped the straw in order to make straw bales. We used about 60 acres worth for our sheep bedding needs, and sold the rest.
    In this video, you’ll once again see the daily grind of the actual harvest, but the last two days shows Dan (our custom baler) baling the straw. We make large square bales for storing purposes, and for easier use in the sheep barn.
    His baler also has an accumulator table which is a GODSEND when your the one picking up bales.
    What do you all do with your wheat straw? Bale or spread?
    Comment Below!⬇️⬇️
    Thank you for watching this series!
    Coming soon… more sheep, and likely more hay😬

    Great to see all this again I grew up on a farm with small bales . Hand loaded and unloaded the wagons. But we loaded behind the bailer. Love what you do and I know a framers work is NEVER DONE. Thank you for feeding us.

    Thank You very much for letting us walk along with you folks in wheat harvest plus the straw bailing and bail pick up. I did straw bailing as a farm boy we had 80 pound bail's. We had to hand stack straw bail's up in the barn straw mouw. Please Take Care of Your Self Plus Be Very Care Full around all Farm Equipment.

      I live on a farm in West Virginia, it's a lot smaller then what you have but the problems stay the same no matter what size. I use to help out a lot but I'm terminal and in a wheelchair now. It's hard to believe but I miss getting sweaty, dirty and greasy. I still do what I can to help and they help me. As living on farms our families are truly blessed. Thoughts and prayers, Todd.

    we plant all of our 490 acres of winter wheat after we harvested soybeans in October. we farm in michigan. where are you located. you must be in a northern climate. here in michigan we always have good luck with wheat. ours yielded almost 120 bushels an acre. we planted all of our wheat fields into double crop soybeans after the straw was baled. nice video's look forward to seeing more.

    • @SandiBrock
      @SandiBrock  5 років тому

      We typically plant after soybeans as well... Or our edible beans. Last year we grew early day beans and most were off in September, so wheat was in and up in good weather. We usually plant in October with no issues... even November some years, but October here in Ontario was awful last year. It turned cold and wet. Really saw it in yield this year.

    your pulling the spikes out on rear tilt on a lot of them, that can move the bales too, when you dont want them too..

      I know... I suck at this part as I have almost no view of the loader spears... Hate these JD loaders for this. My Bobcat I can see great, then get on this and do a lot of cursing...

    The hitch is cool, now I know why you said it was fantastic a few episodes ago.
    What happens to to the weeds in the margin fields when you harvest, do they just end up in the straw.
    Seeing how the combine Works would be very interesting

    Enjoyed the video,I always like to see tractors working,and the coordination needed to get things done.Love the quick hitch system you guys have,and will have try it for myself,when I get equipment again.Have you ever grown oats,to use as feed and bedding? I did with goats,and it worked out well.I know you can sell the wheat,but with my small acreage,it worked out well,and saved me on feed cost,so it's like getting paid. Keep up the good work.

    We Bale all of our straw and usually have to buy in a bunch as well. How many acres if wheat did you have?

    • @SandiBrock
      @SandiBrock  5 років тому

      We had 440 acres total, plus around 80-90 acres custom... Only needed 60 acres worth of straw for ourselves, but sold the rest to some other livestock farmers in the area...

    Hi! I appreciate you taking the time to film and share it all with us! Just wondering if you ever have parasite problems with your sheep? If so what wormer do you use? Thx!

    Are you planning on extending the hay storage section of the barn where you store your straw bales? Curious why it is not enclosed from the weather.Love you videos. Keep them coming.

      @SandiBrock  5 років тому

      We are sitting on a used tarp barn that we just haven't had time to put up yet. Hoping that will give us some more storage...

    Love the videos and the music you do.I do have one question regarding Jess milking the cows, um.. where are the cows?I have not seen a cow barn or a herd yet. I know you get a thousand questions a day from your social media accounts and cannot figure out why you do not fall asleep while editing your videos, so I will be patient. Thanks so much for sharing what you do.

    • @SandiBrock
      @SandiBrock  5 років тому

      LOL. I am slow getting back, I'm sorry... So Jess milks cows part time for our neighbours. She loves milking cows and has worked here, and previously at our good friend's jersey farm that was dispersed last October.

      @@SandiBrock Thank you for filling me in on that. By dispersed I assume ( I hate assuming lol) you mean it was sold or the dairy is no longer there.

    When you are out harvesting how does your family have meals? Do you take lunches to the field or do you have meals at the end of the day?

    • @SandiBrock
      @SandiBrock  5 років тому +1

      This is our downfall, I'll admit. We will grab a bite before we go out to the fields, and eat when we finish... The good part about wheat is we know there will be no all-nighters, so we just eat supper late.
