Aww, its so nice to see people reacting to Altin Gün!! Long story short, i was learning turkish so i got into "classic" anatolian rock, i was watching some Erkin Koray's music when "Cemalim" came out on the player, i really liked it and then the feed of youtube throw Altin Gün's version. My love for this band started from there, and a couple weeks ago they came to my city and i can assure, they are the coolest, kind and fun people to hang out with!! i swear!. I wish more people give this band a chance, turkish folk is beautiful by itself, but this mix of acid/psychadelic rock Altin gün gives, just simply blows my mind. I recomend you to check out all performances on KEXP. They glow absolutely. I love how they sound live and of course the musicianship is awesome. So i will love to see more of your reactions!!!
That instrument is a baglama/saz. It's the instrument Gizz based their microtonal necks on. You might enjoy BaBa ZuLa too, they've got a Boiler Room set thats a wonderfully fuzzed up psychedelic Turkish freak-out.
Their new album is amazing. There is one song called rakiya su katamam which has an incredibly trippy video and is s-tier. You have to check it out next.
fuck yeah dude!! glad to see you were into it. if you want to get more into these guys, personally i would just go right with the album with these two on it called "On." it's their first album, and it's crazy how tight they are right from the beginning. since you mentioned you were curious how the recordings sounded, i gotta say that this album has some of my all time favorite sounding drums-- kinda a lofi vulfpeck-ish sound except way more full with a bit of a bite (but also imo everything is mixed beautifully). massive shoutout to the percussionist, he actually makes the entire thing While i have you ill also say that youre coming up on what might be my favorite king gizz song ("Honey"), and the drums on that actually remind me a lot of Altin Gün the way they play around the groovy percussion in the background. Honey is usually the first song i show people who are curious about the band, bc it's catchy and upbeat but so unapologetically king gizzard (microtonal, weird time signatures/rhythms). one last random thought: Static Electricity off of L.W. sounds like it could be by Altin Gün both those bands are so fuckin dope
Oh shit earlier today I was thinking you should listen to Altin Gün! Glad you enjoy it. They are Turkish-Dutch blowing new life into classic Turkish songs if I'm not mistaken. I am Dutch but don't understand Turkish myself. Love the music though. Especially their synth work. They use that in lots of songs that are all worth checking out. My favorite album from them is Gece. It has a lot of fantastic high energy synths on it. I think the instrument you were wondering about is a bağlama, a traditional Turkish instrument.
I looooove this band. I don’t understand a word they sing but I don’t care I still love them. It’s pronounced “All tin goon”. And that instrument is a Saz. Microtonal in nature and I think the frets are movable. Enjoy this rabbit hole.
Hey man i loved your reaction. That instrument is called "Bağlama" in Turkish. Which means knotted. The instrument has adjustable frets on the neck that you knot to the neck that is why its called knotted. Because it has adjustable frets, you can play with microtunal tunes rather than 12 tunes/notes that typical western music has.
the amount of people that don't use adblocker extensions surprises me. i use ad blockers since they were an extension. before that i had to use greasemonkey to inject scripts to websites to block all those animated gifs and stuff. i've never watched a video ad since youtube was founded on my pc or laptop,. only see those ads on other people's devices. and its realy disturbing. other than that, it's a great and informative video to know more about altin gun.
