Get home bag is an important piece of kit. What you have on you or in your bag can be the difference between making it home or not. With that said and as mentioned it depends on who you are (age, physical capabilities) where you’re at, the time of year and how far you are from your destination. The basics however WILL NOT CHANGE! Cellphone, money (cash or debit card)water, light (headlamp or hand held flashlight) battery bank with charging cord and depending on your personal situation; medication. If you are trying to get home these things will get you there MOST OF THE TIME. It’s great to have everything including the kitchen sink but not usually necessary. I realize each situation can vary but if you keep just the basics it will cover you. Adding more than you need is just extra weight that in the long run will be something you will regret. I say this because REALISTICALLY most people are “ordinary folks” not survivalist’s or soldiers. You’re not camping or hiking through the woods unless you were already camping or hiking to start with which for the average joe, isn’t the case; generally speaking. You are going to be in an urban environment, city or on a road with other cars and people. Not to say you won’t be on a deserted highway in the middle of a cold winter night but really the chances are slim but you will have a blanket and some kind of snack where staying with your vehicle is going to be smarter than trying to blaze a trail home. 911 or calling AAA or a friend will give you your best chance of getting back. NO YOU CANNOT BE PREPARED FOR EVERYTHING, but having a simple basic load out that’s light is all you need.
Thank you for the comment and I agree with much of what you are saying. I have a video dropping this weekend on survival basics. The idea being the minimum amount of gear you need in most survival situations. What you are describing would lean into that category in my mind. Survival basics like food and water, a flashlight and what not. There is of course a line between what you need most of the time and what you might need in extreme situations.
Mine is light, I am a small older female with only a short distance away from home on an average day. I include items like sunscreen so I do get burnt and bug spray so I don’t get bitten but they are mini sized. Water, snack, power bank, phone, head torch, coat, etc

9 volt battery and steel wool starts a fire instantly. Steel wool shorts the battery and the oil on the steel wool ignites. 19 minutes in and no mention of some silver coins and cash.
Those are both great ideas, a 9 volt battery and steel wool are excellent choices for starting a fire. I think you have a good point on silver coins and cash. I will have to think about that.
Thanks for your imput. I carry a get home bag in the truck . It deff. depends how far you have to go and how long it will take you to get where your going. I am anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hour drive depending on where I am. I know I will spending more than a few nights out if I had to walk. I carry a more substantial shelter if I need to use it I will. I carry some water but like you I have other options. Same with the food, I carry a 72 hr food kit with coffee😀. I also have a more indepth fire kit with tinder again if needed. Dont forget maps. Not sure about head set unless you have more and are with a group. I do carry small binoculars . A good fixed blade knife is aways good too.

@twodrshomeste I didnt mean to come off as dising just ideas I have, its a good bag everyone has to fit there gear to there situations. I am always improving mine in some way or another and I have carried mine for years. We have a lot of the same itams. 👍
I have done a few videos on EMP, given the current reported capabilities of HEMP weapons, I would not trust an EMP proof device to actually be able to protect my truck. It can’t hurt to try, given that they have not been tested against an actual modern EMP weapon I do not trust them as an investment.
