"For sure" 🤷♀😆😆😆
i remember watching it live with my dad in israel, it was the first time i've witnessed anything like that.
when sharp's shot went in you could hear screams from every apartment in the entire street.
perhaps one of the stronger childhood memories i have.
I LIKE THESE VIDEOS,BUT AS A ZALGIRIS FAN I STILL CANNOT WATCH THIS RETRO GAME.
HURTS TOO MUCH. THIS WAS THE FIRST ACTUAL TIME WHEN I CRIED LIKE A BABY AFTER THE GAME AND MY WHOLE FAMILY WAS SITTING IN SILENCE FOR LIKE 15MINUTES STRAIGHT.
SECOND CRY WAS AS LITHUANIA VS ITALY IN THE SAME 2004...
wHAT A YEAR....
BUT HISTORY IS HISTORY.
SABAS
Damn! Atens as well same year! Heart broken…
Thank you guys for that awesome video , this was a "where you were when it happened" moment in israel , that Zalgiris team was great and were kind of a kryptonite of Maccabi ,the size and rebounding of Sabonis and Beard together in the Frontline were hard to deal with.
I also remember Feeling bad for Sabonis , Such a Great player and a class act trying to bring his home club Zalgiris to a final four .
This Zalgiris loss will be passed to multiple generations. I couldn't sleep that night... God was wearing yellow that night
Its funny you say that cuz for some pepole that sequance was considered no less then god intervention.
till this day most lithuanians have nightmares about this.... sabonis last season, zalgiris was so complete and so deserved to win euroleague... but this one shop killed everything...
Wop wop
💙💛💙💛💙💛💙💛💙
I know it's also a heartbreaking game for Lithuanians but maybe you can do Eurobasket final 1995?
The three point showdown between Saša Đorđević and Šarunas Marčiulionis was amazing, and it was an amazing game historically for all the three medal winners of that tournament
Painful game to lithuanians...
Small fact about Dordzevic and Basketnews relating to that game.
Before recording an interview, BN journalist introduced himself to Sasha,
Sasha responded to him "Hello, I'm Mr 41". To him it was painful respond. 😅
I don't think we've ever had a more important minute in Euroleague history.
In Maccabi, it was clear that if the team didn't reach the Final Four in Tel-Aviv, they were headed for a rebuild.
If that minute had been normal: Zalgiris would've gone to the Final Four in 2004, Maccabi would've been mediocre in 2005, and either Baskonia or Panathinaikos would have won the title. The 2006 run to the final wouldn't have happened either.
But instead, in one minute, a bunch of very low probability events happened. Maccabi made it to the final four, won the final by a 44-point margin, started a dynasty, and built a team that became a fan favorite among many hardcore basketball fans.
Known in Israel as "the Zalgiris miracle"!
The best maccabi moment for every Israeli basketball fan

Oh great, just ruin my evening like that. Very interesting facts, great wat ch. Ačiū!
favorite euroleague moment of all time!!! Best euro team of all time what. Great video choice and a great memory 💛💙💛💙
BasketNews adding to depression rates in Lithuania... Thanks guys 🥲
Are people depressed in Lithuania ?
Thanks guys, that was great. I was in the game, and one of the fans passed out in Sharp's basket and they carry him on a stretcher across the floor. He was alright though😂
Definitely one of the best days of my life. I have witnesses to the moment when Sabonis made his 5th foul, I was saying to my friends standing around me at the stadium that we're going to win the game. People were crying, and prying, and yes someone offered his F4 tickets for half the price (I should have bought it🤣), but I was CERTAIN at this point that Maccabi will be in the F4. The atmosphere was incredible... and I got to live a real miracle😁
A great video! The Lithuanian point of view is really interesting and your comments are great!
Thanks for letting me relive these incredible memories!
Awesome video, love your channel.
You're true gentlemen for showing this video with so much grace, coming from the Lithuanian side.
Man to lose a game like this hurts but to lose a Final 4 like this...can't imagine!
Cheers from Greece
Every Israeli basketball fan remembers where he was that day...great memories
The day Tel Aviv went crazy
Too soon! What's next, will you remind us Lithuania-Italy in Olympics 2004?
If more serious - i waited for this episode ever since you started doing retro game watches.... still hurts...
We had to do it eventually 😬 Thanks for the suggestion for our next episode 😅
Zalgiris +6 amd 25 seconds left. Even im todays game in hard to lose like that. It's just some many actions happened together that in some games does'nt happen at all at the end.
Zalgiris miracle
Perfect name for it
Maccabi 2003/04 and 2004/05, the best team in the euroleague in history
Great episode! Loved it and hated it at the same time 😂
Thanks 🙏 I guess you're Lithuanian 😃
@@BasketNews_com Just a big Sabonis fan from his days in Madrid
Thank you once again for this awesome content. Greetings from Greece. Only olympiacos
Always love the content guys. sending love from San Francisco, CA! 🤙
Yall should add to the watchlist Partizan-Cibona ABA League final in Zagreb with Kecman's iconic shot which is for me (prolly bcs of bias) one of the best shots in basketball history.
You should rewatch "OAKAzo" game (PAO vs Baskonia Playoffs 2006, game 3, Baskonia upset Panathinaikos at home to qualify for the Final Four).
Im fan of your chanel. PLEASE DONT MAKE video Partizan real last year!! from belgrade
The announcer is not the same guy, the euro league banned him because of his activism during the game.
Legendary Rafi Ginat
I think he retired
Guys please comment Greece vs USSR 1987 final for some really retro stuff
כולם יודעים שאירופה צהובה 💛💙✡️🇮🇱
We call that game in israel the zalgiris miracle. It was the gam that the tone for maccabi as THE TEAM in the mid 2000's. Since then the most iconic moments from modern maccabi was 2014 playoffs & final four, with an underdog championship ran by tyrese rice. Since then maccabi got into a loop of impatient decisions with plenty of rebuild, and mediocre basketball, although they vegan showing mor consistency in roster and executive calls
thanks alot for retro waiting for another part thanks !
Please delete this!
Man I feel bad for y'all. At least you got to the final four in 2018 if it means anything
You should prolly react to the 2009 semifinal between pana and oly
Great episode, thanks guys
I remember Gustas missing important 3 in the national team as well. Unlucky guy, but one guy is not the reason we lost
I was 15 back then and clearly remember my emotions and disappointment after the game. My basketball understanding was not even close to what I have today so the only person I did blame was Giedrius Gutstas. Remember myself lying in a bed with my head under a blanket and texting on my Siemens C45 to friends, spilling all the shit about those two FTs and how deeply I hate Gustas. Later I understood whose mistake really cost us the F4.
COTA MOVING LIKE UNCLE DREW
LeBron's favorite North Carolina point guard for a reason!
There are 3 games that makes true Lithuanian basketball fan cry:
1995 Eurobasket final and 9 threes by Djordevic (I was too young to watch it live)
This Zalgiris vs Maccabi game (cried)
2004 m. Olympic semifinal Lithuania-Italy (I was 14 y and cried like baby)
the name of the anouncer is Raffi ginat not doing it anymore but hes a legend in israel
Maccabi💛💙
I remember this game, because of the hosting of the Final Four in Tel Aviv and because Maccabi had great players and the expectations were to reach the Final Four. You could understand how much Zalgiris played at a high level, exhausted Maccabi and added more points and the dream seems finished. Sabonis was the best in this game, like a coach in the game he gave instructions and everything seemed finished. One of the moments I remember is when Zalgiris advanced to the Final Four in 2018 against Olympiacos. The camera was on Charas with focus, he was the coach, you could see the excitement on his face like a circle closing, and I really wanted to see him win this year with the team. He is one of the greatest in Europe, as a player and as a coach.
HI THER FROM ISRAEL! GREAT GAME GREAT TIMES
Maccabi just had tons of pressure that made them play worse than their real strength.
Once the pressure was gone they licked everyone's ass.
oh maccabi the good old days
not like now
On that day God was wearing Maccabi's jersey
Lowkey weird to comment this in english, but I remember being 8 years old at that time and I literally cried after the game :D
i remember watching this live, it was a tragedy. 20 years later who cares about a loss
11:21 his name is Raffi Ginat, and he is not anouncing Maccani for years
Still can not watch it, :( came just to write this comment
I saw that live, what a night, what a team!
I'm happy to hear how this game and this Maccabi team touched you as well.
As someone who lives in Tel-Aviv and was in my early 20s when this game happened, it is indeed a miracle and a legendary game. Its always great to watch this game :)
The commentator in the arena that you guys liked is named Raphi Ginat. He was a very big and known journalist in Israel, late in his carreer he was the editor of the biggest newspaper in Israel. He was always a huge maccabi fan and had a recognizable voices thats why they loved him as arena commentator and he continued to do this until his mid 60s. Later he was replaced by another crazy commentator called Shay Sidi, he's the voice of Maccabi both in Basketball and Football.
About Shelef, he passed a similar pass to Parker in Moscow when Maccabi beat CSKA in the last second in a similar scenerio shot. So he is good in those quarterback passes :)
Man such a nice video guys!! Old memories, I cried my eyes out at 6 years old before Sharp hit that three pointer😂😂😂
Thank you for the video, great job with all the stories around as well
I love this era…actually I don’t like so much basketball now…three point contest and so much flopping…
Since the arena was sold out - we watched this game in one of Tel Aviv's parks - this night was one to remember, it was madness here in Israel.
GREAT VIDEO
Biggest miracle is Maljkovic winning with Limoges ;)
great vid, epic match guys! Thanks!!
Thank you, men. Great game, great conversation

its just a game, every team loses sometimes, grow up

Will need to dig deep into the archives for Kukoc 😃
nah, too soon.
Biggest miracle was Olympiacos vs CSKA in 2012
Another Lithuanian missed free throws.. :D
Guys, it's been so many years... it's time to start saying Beard's last name properly, unlike the boomer commentators of Lithuania back in the day? :D I know it was mispronounced back then, but it was Lithuania 20 years ago. Almost every foreigners last name was being mispronounced.
Tiesiogine to žodžio prasme "beard"(bierd)- barzda. Paklausykit ir kai pats jis sako savo pavardę ir Brandon Davies buvo Lietuvoje paklaustas apie "berd" ir jis paklausė "Oh, Beard(bierd)?*nusišypso* Yeah, I worked with Beard back in the day, he talked about his time in Lithuania" ir t.t... Įdomu ar jis šiais laikais sako "they never learned how to pronounce my last name" xD
I guess all of Lithuania was taught wrong and it stuck 😬
Guys. What are you talking about? If Zalgiris wins this one they are tied with Valencia on 4:2 record with Valencia winning both games and going to the finals. There is no need to cry for the lost Final4 opportunity
+lol :) valencia did not travel to tel aviv . got 0-20 ant zero (not 1) points for that game.
As a Lithuanian i watched this first time after that night. It hurts same. Sabonis should have been MVP and Euroleague winner. Tanoka Beard made biggest mistake, to try rebound the ball. Sad decision.
Great video guys as always!
What a night that was 💛💙
12:25 perfectly said, Cota was like CP3 :D
